  • Spinning the surf with metal lures is an easy and fun way to catch salmon and a great place to start if new to beach fishing. In this episode I share what setup and lures I use as well as how to spot a likely looking beach gutter. This is also the first episode released since being supported by the legends at Boss Outdoor and I've included links to the gear I'm using down below.
    Angling Untangled is a fishing adventure and tutorial channel showing off some of the beautiful fishing locations and fish species found in the saltwater and freshwater environments of New South Wales, Australia.
    Expect in-depth guides into gear selection, rigs & lures, tactics, locations, filleting, gear maintenance, and more, covering both bait and lure fishing as well as land based and kayak/boating adventures.
    With a whole host of inshore and estuarine species available, targets will include dusky flathead, yellowfin bream, Australian bass, trout, yellowfin whiting, tailor, Australian salmon, mulloway/jewfish, luderick, drummer, squid, kingfish, sharks and more.

      Yeah everything’s a bit micro at the moment. Have got the odd decent salmon but have cast at schools of them and they have spawning more on their mind than eating right now

    That spot at Tathra is one of the hottest surf gutters going around on the South Coast. It pretty much always has fish in it.

      @@anglinguntangled Thanks Mate, as I live just south of sydney and find it hard to get a good beach that I can chase salmon and tailor with lures. Going up to Kempsey towards the end of Nov so keen to try out your advice up there for some good sized tailor off the beach / rocks
      Look forward to your next vid

    Hey mate, when replacing the trebles on metals, what hook style and size do you use?

    • @anglinguntangled
      @anglinguntangled  Месяц назад

      Hey mate, depends on the size of the lure but for the smaller ones I was using around a size 1 single hook fits the bill 👍🏼

    Cool video, that water looks pretty good, seems like it has some potential for jewfish as well.

    • @anglinguntangled
      @anglinguntangled  Год назад +1

      Cheers mate. Yeah that’s basically the spot with the most potential that I’ve found. Just a bugger that it’s only that 50m stretch that looks any good so if you get there too late someone can already be in it and it’s also too shallow on low tide. Hopefully get one out of there though 🤞🏼

      @@anglinguntangled Well beach structure always changes, so im sure more of itll eventually be good. Do you know if any jewfish have been caught there before? You might just have to go there at stupid oclock so that no one else is around haha.

    • @anglinguntangled
      @anglinguntangled  Год назад +1

      Yeah that’s one spot that they’ve been caught before but there isn’t really any dedicated fishos chasing them so no idea how regularly they are around. I’m just finishing off a little beach cart project so I can take gear and liveys over and I’ll start fishing it pretty regularly I reckon

    i have a big beach near me that looks quite similar in terms of gutters and whatnot but the swell is often pretty rough. current all over the place and waves can get pretty high. was wondering if you think salmon would still hold in rougher water to still be caught?
    cheers for the vid :D

    • @anglinguntangled
      @anglinguntangled  8 месяцев назад

      Big swell doesn’t necessarily keep fish away but depends where you are for the salmon to be around and that there’s still calm enough areas to allow them to access gutters and move around. If it’s really heavy throwing waves for long stretches they might be out off being around. Best bet is to just give it a go and see if you get results 👍🏼

    never caught an aussie salmon but heard they arent good eating. what can they be used for ie, strip bait, live bait or whats the best way to bleed and eat them? cheers

    • @anglinguntangled
      @anglinguntangled  Год назад +1

      Yeah they aren’t my cup of tea eating wise. They are a great fight especially at larger sizes and do make a good bait if salted brined but tend to go too soft if just frozen. They also smoke up not bad if you’re into that. If you are going to eat them definitely make sure to brain spike them and bleed them immediately then put them on ice and eat fresh after cutting out any dark red meat. The smaller ones are reportedly the go for eating
