    It’s so commendable that you were able to pay off debt while raising four children. It just shows it can be done. My husband and I struggled with infertility for years and while it was difficult emotionally we just decided to make the best of the time and just to keep paying off as much of our mortgage as possible. When we had paid off half of our mortgage there was an opportunity to buy a larger home. We were going through fertility treatments still and so we continued to make the best of our time while I was still working. In the end we adopted our son after nine years of marriage and by that time we were mortgage free. By just cutting back, resisting temptation and being more frugal it is possible.

    Hahaha Lana, the library card I love you. I do owe $5 right now because I have five books on hold for too long. But I despise taking the kids to the library while they are all young I have opted to only put books I know are good on hold and made a rule that if the kids grab one off the shelf I have to read it first. The audiobooks are really a benefit though esp. in this season of having a nursing infant.

    You lost me at library card ... I'm sorry but what? Libraries are incredible for local and rural communities...they do so much more than provide books. Your "concerns" say more about you than about the library as a place where poorer people can access knowledge.

    • @girlteachme
      @girlteachme  Год назад +1

      Yes I hear you and truly I have really enjoyed the library at different phases of parenting. Especially when we went to read alouds when they were small. They can be helpful if you reserve books online and pick them up too. I just like to have a trusted book list to go off of, bc at my local library we would go, pull random kid books and I would start reading them aloud to find things I didn’t want to teach my kids. Also, like I said we had 2 accidents with books and the replacement cost was 4x what I could order the book for online. So in this phase it just isn’t worth it for me to do the library, but I get that we all have different seasons and lives ❤️

    • @drc4168
      @drc4168 Год назад

      @@girlteachme fair enough, I apologise for being a bit sharp, it's just that my local library got me through some very tough times indeed. Sorry again! I agree, they shouldn't push agendas either.

    • @girlteachme
      @girlteachme  Год назад +1

      @@drc4168 Oh no worries, totally forgiven. I am so glad that your library blessed you in that way. It made me consider how my library was a blessing in a certain season as well. When my oldest was 2 we were at story time often and it made me realize that I needed to be reading to him more. And yes, the agendas thing is probably library to library, so I shouldn't give up on them all together. ❤

      @drc4168 Год назад

      @@girlteachme indeed, but you're right to be cautious! :)

    • @katwolf897
      @katwolf897 Год назад +1

      @@girlteachmeJust because the library has all the books available doesn't mean you have to check out all of them. You can still follow a book list when you go to the library to find books that have the same beliefs and ideas you want to teach your kids. Just because something is available doesn't mean you have to take it if you don't want to, but that doesn't mean you need to completely stay away from the library. Don't throw away the baby with the bathwater. That said, if you like to mark up your books, it makes sense for you to buy your own books. It's just not the frugal option.
