I always think of the entire colony as being one pet. Ant colonies are superorganisms, so it’s kinda like each ant is just a cell. The colony as a whole is intelligent as if it’s one creature. So the way I see it, it’s as if a single beloved pet like a dog, cat, bird, or whatever died after giving them a loving home and affection for 4 years. That’s why I’m crying right now.

I'm so sorry to hear about your starting colony. I just recently found your channel a few days ago but I quickly grew to admire and be astounded by the Fire Nation and you cinematography. I actually started my love for ants back in 1995 or 1996 when my dad built me a wall made of 5 ant farms for my 5th birthday. I stated off with carpenter ants and they lived for 3 years before they too passed on the eternal tunnels of the Ant Realm. They are amazing creatures. The love of the Queen and the respect and protection it's spawn has for their mother and their siblings is beyond any other pet I've ever cared for, to this day. Their incredible strength and natural intelligence is superb to witness as they make their homes and tunnels, scavenge for food and protect their brood. I truly know your loss from personal experience and they can never really be forgotten. I named my queen ant Queen Caprice after a girl I had a crush on in grade school, but I also named alot of the worker ants. There was one which was a scared by an accidental tunnel collapse after the first year. I could usually find it quickly since it was one of the largest ants in my colony and had a scar on his face, inbetween its pincers, so naturally I named it Nicole Fury, after Nick Fury from my Mavel comics LOL. Unfortunately, they died as well, most likely from poisoning because I wasn't as knowledgeable about ants back then and I would feed them the wrong things like bugs I found, without knowing if they were bad for them, or adding leaves that were most likely toxic. Looking back now I'm surprised they lived for so long. Probably because my dad helped me care for them. 3 years... and I loved every minute. The feeling of coming home from school to show my friends my ant exhibit, and watching them as lived their lives with meaning day after day was a timeless memory. They were constantly building since I would occasionally replace an ant farm with a larger one, every 6 months or so, so they could have fresh dirt and soil as well as removing all their dead and gross debris, yet giving them a larger area to live. The walls were made of plexiglass so I could see everything. It was nothing compared to your setup, but I truly hope I can visit your upcoming home for your colonies once it is finished. I love your videos and you do an amazing job at documenting everything in crystal clear focus but it's something completely different being right there in person. You are an amazing person and your ants should feel lucky. They have no clue what you do for them but it shows in every video I've seen of yours. I notice you and your efforts and I congratulate you on success and achievements. Ant keeping is not easy. Keep your head up and keep up the amazing work. You may have suffered a tremendous loss but you taught millions of people the love and excitement that ants can create. Be proud!!! That was all because of you and the Fire Nation. That's an amazing experience. Take care my new friend. And keep their memory alive through your lessons, your viewers and their footage! That way, they will live on forever...
You have a permanent fan AntsCanada!!! I love the videos!!! I love every way you explain all of the actions from each individual!! Great job!! I have had terrariums with insects and reptiles for years. I am so shocked that I hadn’t known of you sooner. I myself am just now getting into sharing and video taping and I hope we can share information in the future. Thank you once again for the amazing content.
It was amazing man, what a wonderful job I got to know the channel at the end of the fire nation, but I went back to all the videos and saw how amazing this nation was, congratulations on your work and we’re sorry for the loss
Mikey, I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news... But at the time stamp 7:30... you can see a mite on the mayor's leg And in 0:45, you can see an ant struggling on the bottom rim of the cup..... please, do not give this terrarium to any other ants...I hope you saw this... Good luck out there...
Do you have beneficial mites living in the nucleus? If not, you should find a way to introduce beneficial mites to all terrariums when constructed, and also add them to the terrariums lacking beneficial mites But, as Aja says, do not introduce any colony there (you could try to add a colony along with an army of beneficial mites, though, but I would not risk it)
Yes, I realized this after reading a few of the helpful comments. The Selva de Fuego was one of the tanks that had no soils from the Nucleus (which has Hypoaspis mites). It's time to fix that!
This actually made me sad, especially when you filmed those two lone ants, it genuinely made me sad because if I personally was an ant I would feel lonely and sad if my colony just died.
I feel so sorry for your loss, hopefully things will get better for you. Before you people go to my comment all angry twitter argument style I know this video is released years ago and I only want to make a happy positive comment.

I can’t stop coming back to this video. It’s just too sad… It’s been the 9th time I repeat this video and even with the Phoenix empire, I can’t forget this once beautiful, beloved and undisputed ant colony. R.I.P again :(
Never thought I'd be sad about an ant colony dying. Side note, I got to see an amazing war between two ant species last year. I was helping my dad with some work around his house and I noticed a swarm of ants around this tree, thinking we must have disturbed a nest or something I didnt think much of it until I looked closer. Now, I'm no ant man so I couldnt tell you what species these guys were, but it was definitely a war between worlds with an invading army of black ants, versus a smaller, brownish/amber color ant nest. When I got closer, I could see it was chaos. There were battles going on everywhere!, One on one, up to four on one, it was epic!. And while the invaders were easily winning, I noticed two separate streams of the little brownies leading off into the forest. They were carrying egg larvae out of the nest as fast as they could while the soldiers and workers fought off the assualt. But alas, it was a massacre for the little brownies. After about ten minutes, it was over. The smaller black ants, along with their big soldier buddies were raiding what was left of the brownie nest and hauling off egg larvae as war trophies to where I could only assume was their home nest somewhere in the woods. It was amazing to see each party hauling off their wounded and dying brothers and sisters and after another five minutes, it seemed the signal to stop fighting was given as the victors didnt bother the few remaining brownies that were still standing. It was sad to see all the death on the battlefield on both sides and the brownie nest all but obliterated, but watching those two lines form and move what they could, I believe the brownies had another chance to start over somewhere else on the property. I tried to see what direction the invaders were going but didnt want to ruin their celebration, besides, I had to get back to work.
Pretty much just sisters tho, as most of the ants r female, very very few male, males simply impregnate queens n that's it. Males they pretty much just flying sperm..
Just today I found this channel and watched a handful of videos about the Fire Nation. Despite following their journey for just a few hours instead of several years like other viewers, I still felt something while watching this video about their death. I never thought I would feel emotions for ants. Great series!
What happened to the mass quantity of ant corpses at that time of searching the terrarium? wouldn't they have died exponentially to the point where decomposers wouldn't keep up ?
Yes, they were likely in the ant graveyard (not sure where that is but likely deep in the soil somewhere). I was too sad to go digging around and uprooting plants to find and film it. Sorry about that.
My son's favourite episode is when you startes out with the Fire Nation. He loves ants and I have introduced him to the channel.

😭🔥❤🐜 RIP Fire Nation. They were my favourite! Most challenging ant colony to keep, but so enriching.
Sorry for your loss 😢
Mikey, I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news... But at the time stamp 7:30... you can see a mite on the mayor's leg
And in 0:45, you can see an ant struggling on the bottom rim of the cup..... please, do not give this terrarium to any other ants...I hope you saw this... Good luck out there...
Do you have beneficial mites living in the nucleus? If not, you should find a way to introduce beneficial mites to all terrariums when constructed, and also add them to the terrariums lacking beneficial mites
But, as Aja says, do not introduce any colony there (you could try to add a colony along with an army of beneficial mites, though, but I would not risk it)
Yes, I realized this after reading a few of the helpful comments. The Selva de Fuego was one of the tanks that had no soils from the Nucleus (which has Hypoaspis mites). It's time to fix that!
So the Fire Nation died bcause their queen died?
This actually made me sad, especially when you filmed those two lone ants, it genuinely made me sad because if I personally was an ant I would feel lonely and sad if my colony just died.

Dude that's a lot of work to write
what region did you live in? its possible that the blacks were carpenter ants and the brownies lacius.
