    Stopping by again. 26 years later and this is video still holds up as some of the finest sailing you will ever see. Nice one fellas.👍

    The biggest lesson I learnt sailing skiffs is to be brave and always set the spinnaker. The boat is more stable with them. This is still one of the best displays of survival sailing ever!

    • @ianedmonds9191
      @ianedmonds9191 5 лет назад +4

      Yeah.
      This about the most extreme sailing I've ever seen.
      Skiffs do work best with the kite up though.
      The kite adds some lift and stops the bow digging in.
      It was clearly the best decision. Maybe it just took some balls.

    I know it's gutsy and scary to do, but you can see how much the boat stabilises with the kite up as opposed to trying to go downwind 2 sail.

    • @allistar6933

      Anyone who has sailed a Skiff knows that a Gennaker actually creates a lot of lift in the bow and helps to stop the nose dives. Still ballsy as though. Much respect.

    • @ianedmonds9191
      @ianedmonds9191 3 года назад

      @@allistar6933 You'd be mental not to put it up downwind.
      The Gennaker balances the helm.
      It becomes MUCH MUCH easier to steer and balance the boat.
      Sailing an L4K we'd persevere upwind for hours then fly downwind with three sails in twenty minutes.
      Skiffs are so asymmetric... :-)
      Luv and Peace.

    • @johnmichaels2495
      @johnmichaels2495 3 года назад +1

      Never raced a skiff, but on E-scows in heavy wind, it's practically suicidal to do a downwind without a kite. Without it the boat is almost uncontrollable.
