So for you to understand what I mean with Crowd Control, just imagine a Botdrop 10m away from you with let's say 2 striders and 10 Grunts, 4 of them are the MG Raiders. Their Back is turned to you so you have enough time to be the first to shoot. So what are you gonna do ? Ping them with the Dominator ? No, great CC Weapons like the, Stalwart will mow down the Grunts easily in a split second and have just about enough time to dodge the Strider Shots. The Cross will need three shots which it can fire in about 3 Seconds. I hope you understand what I mean with Crowd Control, it either has to have a high fire rate or good AOE, preferably be nimble aswell. The X-Cbow is lacking on the RoF but the Large AOE makes up for it. Once again, you can dislike the Weapon.. thats fine, but just because you dislike it or lack the patience to get good with it doesn't make it Bad, most Guns in this game Excell at one thing and lack at others, you just need to use your Head and prepare accordingly.
The Crossbow is surprisingly effective at killing Chargers with just a little more than a full magazine and that's also from the front if you know the trick of shooting the crossbow at the ground between their legs. Dat phat damage will wreck them faster than any other primary weapon that's for sure. If you're wanting to run a loadout that doesn't include carrying around a EAT, Recoilless, or Quasar to one-shot them or a flamethrower to barbecue them, take the crossbow if you still want to mop the floor with Chargers.
6:20 My first game on with friends after the shrieker update I told my friend they couldn't get him while prone. His response was horrified screaming as he was ripped limb from limb lmao.
They used to always oneshot you before and instakill by crushing if even the smidge of their body touched your model. Also they used to call bug breaches, thank liberty that was pathced quickly.
For SEAF, it's less annoying as long as you stack all the shells by the gun before turning on the computer. That way you can load all of the shells and get out in like 20 seconds because they are ready to go and you don't get all the bug breaches and patrols coming at you.
IMO the xbow is better against bots. It seems to have a reduced sound profile so you can get pretty aggressive without making the small dudes call in drop ships.
I'm not a fan of the crossbow and I hardly feel like 1 niche mission is enough to make it valid. According to another content creator, the crossbow does have a massive explosion radius. It's like a 6 meter explosion radius for damage and a 3 meter radius killzone. So it'll splat those eggs really well since it seems like they don't take too much damage before they crack, but 3 meters is not an engagement distance you are allowed to have too often. It's inability to destroy outpost structures and containers just maims it even further in my book. I honestly get more effective use out of the Adjudicator than the crossbow, but that's my own gameplay style.
I think the issue is the low damage for that radius. You will kill a friendly in that radius instantly, but a hunter can survive outside of maybe 2 meters. I can't think of more than a single mission I would take the crossbow over the Eruptor or the Grenade Launcher.
I found it to be better then expected, but I havn't used it against bugs. its got a good rate of fire and a surprisingly large blast. every basic bot that is in the blast is likely to die, regardless if the bolt itself hit the bunker ceiling, floor or opposing wall, its blast will also knock the scout strider down in a single hit, at least if you hit on the sides or above the gun of the crew compartment. and 4 or so (could be a few more, but berzerkers are ammo soaks at the best of time, being able to rake a group with the explosives proved somewhat effective) can knock down a group of HP soak berserkers. its relatively good rate of fire and ability to deal with the common scout strider actually makes it a choice I consider vs bots when picking a anti-light enemy type weapon.
It's a really fun option when you want to spice up your loadouts, two things that hurt most are abysmal mag size and inability to break buildings. While the second one I maybe possible could justify since it doesn't have as many penalties as GP or Eruptor, having only 5 shots feels like always missing even when you're not. It takes 4 shots to the head to kill brood commanders/spewers, but only 2/1 to kill other medium to light bugs. Expanding mag size to 8 would make it a lot more consistent in all scenarios, maybe take off some reserve ammo in exchange.
The Crossbow is amazing if you're trying to be sneaky and or have friends to draw fire and you can lob these explosive daredevils into flanks. I don't know if the Punisher Plasma is as quiet as this thing but.... it can be awesome. Also that Guardog with the crossbow is a great setup in my noob opinion.
Punisher plasma is excellent at flanking and crowd controlling enemies at the same time but it needs your friend to cover you from hunters since they can get close to you really fast and you can't shot them point blank.
Make Crossbow 1h, bug hole, and fabi closer and then it's fine. Kinda feels like the actual damage is swapped with the eruptor, similar to how the Jar and the Slugger felt pre tuning.
1 handed would make a lot more sense. I kinda want it to have a bigger blast radius and maybe do less damage so it's good for ad clear. You already can't shoot it anywhere near you so it needs some upside.
@@OhDough Yeah that would be great. I might use the ballistic shield more if they made this 1h. Then again AH still believes that a literal physical shield shouldn't stop melee hits so... But also Crossbow is not too bad for eradicates as it is either. Feels like 2 of the guns on the pass were good, 1(this one) is okay-ish, and we wont talk about the 4th one
What could really make the crossbow shine would be to make the bolt explode by pulling the trigger a second time. That way you could detonate it mid air or shoot a bolt down and wait for enemies to walk over it to blow them up. I think that would make it s tier
EMS only stops chargers if they come into contact while not mid charge, in my experience. If it hits them while they’re waddling, turning or spawning they’re trapped until it ends, but if they can initiate a charge before touching it (such as when the EMS is between you and them but they’re not in it) it won’t interrupt their charge when they charge through it.
what to take away from the video. Hunters are OP as hell. 3-4 chargers coming at you? NP. 2-3 Titans coming at you? NP. 2 Hunters jumping at you? R.I.P
I would suggest taking the incendiary grenades instead of the thermal and the auto pistol for up close. Reason being the 500k bomb took care of the titans more efficiently, and the inc grenades can both close bug holes and kill mobs without the delay to die of the flamethrower. Then use the flame thrower when things are at range, stunned, and for the chargers.
I think thermites get "stickier" if you cook them for a sec. The spikes go out after an instant. But it's purely theoretical...haven't tried it but I noticed it
The shot itself is almost completely silent. You can fire it very close to an enemy, and as long as they don't see you shoot it, they'll be drawn towards the explosion instead of you.
as far as i tested difference between Diamond symbol and Kite symbol is: -Diamond symbol will appear if POI wasn't visited or there are uncollected samples -Kite is explored POI and all samples had been collected sometimes Diamond symbol will stay, that usually happens when POI was revealed using Radar Station while not having any samples (like the the ammo cache)
Enemies definitely appear to have different thresholds to be stunned by EMS, it is not instant for most of them. Chargers take something like 5 seconds, brood commanders and bile spewers seem to take about 2 seconds, and everything smaller than that takes almost no time.
Note: Leveling matters when dodging Shriekers by staying prone(high ground, low ground) if you're on a high slope/high ground or a hill/pillar, they can get you still.
I find it works well on bots paired with autocannon. X-bow drops patrols full of striders/raiders very quickly and autocannon handles everything else. Didn't try it on bugs but seems my concerns about everything getting to close for it to work was about right.
It's such an odd weapon. It's clearly not the same niche as the eruptor, only the autocannon and AM rifle are similar. But the nearest comparisons are the nade launcher and plasma shotgun. Nade launcher has it beat on pretty much all counts except mabye aoe. Shotgun holds more ammo and the drop at least has indirect fire uses, with the crossbow it's just an annoyance though an expected one. I think it needs more capacity, damage, or at least enough pen to do some real explosive damage when you hit exposed flesh, it can't even break storage containers as it stands.
I could see running mortars with the crossbow. Stagger groups of enemies and let the mortars mop them up. What it lacks in raw killing power it makes up for in it's AoE size, so you could stun lock a good section of the horde.
As Im seeing. Both rifles are good at crowed clearing and med armor, thats not including the pistol but that has more going for it. So more for spreading damage (or vs med armor) and the pistol having extra for taking up a secondary
The thermite is also pretty bad (and probably broken). And the Eruptor is sort of suboptimal with how hard you have to build around it to make it work, but it's at least fun.
0:58 tbf trench med makes you butt booty'd up like crazy- but yea, we need better looking med armor for sure and hopefully a 550 speed one. That being said, I won't spoil it but leaked medic armors change up the look to something a _lot_ cooler, and I hope we get all armor variants like the one leaked. Also on the subject of fire damage, its my fav in the game (shoutout to my best girl napalm eagle strike) but man, I wish you could stack fire damage from sources so there's benefit to building an entire kit around it.
You can't EMS a charger once they're mid-charge, they either have to miss/stop, or collide with you or an obstacle strong enough, some obstacles they just break freely. No idea if hive queens do the same thing or not, since they also do a charge attack.
Eruptor def my go to from now on. A primary that can kill strong units and all the other features is too juicy to pass up. Will try the crossbow when I unlock it though, the grenade pistol will probably change the 'primary meta' for me too
For those worried about the warning weapons remember how bad the dominator was when it dropped? Just give it a bit of time and the devs will bring the guns into a position that feel great to use and fun
I want to like the crossbow but the Eruptor outclasses it by a mile. It can one shot headshot all terminids except for Titans and Chargers. It can clear bug holes/ fabricators from across the map with good aim. It has the same shot count and almost as much aoe as the crossbow. The only advantage the bow may have is clearing the eggs but I haven't ran an egg mission with the Eruptor yet so it might be just as good.
pretty sure the crossbow does a lot of direct damage and only a little AoE. devs need a better stat-screen system for the weapons (e.g. damage 35(10) for the lib-explosive) and include the handling stat as well as a specific armour-pen on the guns/support-weapons/turrets.
Since armor cracking is my hyper specialty i main eruptor. Though if i wanted to be a CC player, definitely see this bow and GP along with atun nades being my loadout.
Chargers charging right thru ems cloud, but if the player walks near it they get slowed. Is fascinating how great everything works when it comes to things that hurt the players.
I feel like the stun grenade would have been good here. It actually does stop chargers. It also stops titans to make it easier to hit them with that 500kg
I guess instead of using the crossbow as sole purpose to kill the egs efficiently you could bring the new grenade pistol with similar result and having your primary weapon slot free for whatever feels great to use.
Xbow is great against bots but I find it TERRIBLE against spewer on bugs, so if you get the spewer (be it acid or nourishing) army set it's absolutely not enjoyable for me. It definitely cleans up clumps of trash ads really well and I highly recommend the weapon for that.
im just stuck on medium since things always get out of hand. having to deal with that many enemies while solo? i just wouldnt play the game. i dont like it enough to play anything above medium solo. i dont find the hassle to be fun at all
like the crossbow a little lack luster in certain cases though, I prefer the erupter if you want to get around the reload in BETWEEN shots just swap to secondary then back it is faster then waiting for the reload animation
Ive not used the emp in a while but im fairly sure when i was using it the small guys would get stunned just walking into it but anything larger like hulks and chargers if they did not get hit by the initial detonation seemed to just walk right through it. Though i have noticed if thrown on a bug breech even charges would be stunned upon crawling out so idk it is a weired one. I can only imagin they have a threshold the emp has to exceed to stun them so crawling out of breeches they are sitting in the emp field longer vs chargeing they can run right through and the initial detonation had a large effect meeting that threshold.
"Hunters are the scariest mob in this game." Stalkers: What, am I just non-existent to you? On a serious note, the explosive crossbow feels like a sedated Eruptor. More damage, but wasted on a light-only weapon. On top of this, it feels like it might have less range than the Eruptor(?) and also less magazines, meaning less ammo. Honestly, just run the Eruptor.
The Eruptor's range is hard capped at 100m before exploding in the air. The Crossbow only explodes when it hits something, so it can technically hit MUCH further away. But the drop is pretty steep. You can hit accurately at 60m by aiming with the black prongs in first person. Anything beyond that is going to take a lot of practice eyeballing the angle.
Heavy armor idea; super™ cryo asbestos. Perk would provide 85% fire damage resistance. You could make it any class but I would like to see more thicc divers Cross bow looks like an impact version of the grenade launcher. Not what I expected but that begs the question of what 3-4 stratagems synergies with it. I'm addicted to eagle 500kg & smoke. But obviously I'm bot biased
Chargers have been really whacky since the update. I have seen one survive 2 quasars to face and 2 quasars to leg without getting harmed at all. One charger was not moving and the moment I touched it it killed me on skin contact. It's weird.
Fire is SO DANGEROUS now! :O But at the same time, that module buff on top of the regular buff is too much to be ignored. I still prefer to run the Quasar on top of *whatever else* to take out heavy-heavies, but I have absolutely noticed how much the fire tornados WRECK MY DAY! :O Also, it cannot be said enough how much (it feels, at least) that the Laser-guard-dog inceinterates you. It doesn't even have to do it that often for it to feel like a lot since the laser-bear from it kills HELLDIVERS so fast ;D You may wait seconds for a bug to go down, but that laser-dog will burn you down in a second-flat, precisely when you don't want it to ;D
The crossbow is just a worse eruptor right now imo. I think it is only better for stealth, but eruptor can both close bug holes/fabricators, and shoot from a much longer ranger with precision.

With the Crossbow I can shoot at a strider and sometimes take out more then one with one Shot. That's why I am saying that either you didn't figure it out yet or you simply don't like it.. which is fine but it's isn't Bad it has its place.
@@TheWill383 i can use better tools for crowd control like plasma punisher or eruptor or pistol granade launcher or dominator for stugger or any other good weapon or stun granade . it s just shity and not worth a slot as primary .
@@PsychoFreedom You either don't know what I really mean with Crowd Control or you are just stubborn.
Plasma Punisher is awfully slow and just unwieldy, Eruptor is to Slow and Unwieldy, Pistol Grenade Launcher has low rof just about the same damage and AOE as the X-Cbow and has terrible Ammo Economy.. wont be controlling alot of Crowds with the 8 Shots you have...Dominator is a Devastator Weapon.. not well suited for Crowd Control, Stun Grenades are semi viable but to valuable to waste it on Grunts.
I liked the video because you used the word perturbed. And thankyou for picking up samples, it is good for my soul to see that.
Looks like a lot of fun. Hopefully we get more unique weapons like this in the future.
I am with you on the hunters 💯
If you wanna cancel a stratagem, just manually pull out a weapon. Your character puts it away to pull a gun out. 6:43
You can cancel pokéballs by equipping a weapon (I use 1, 2, or 3)
"We need better looking medic armor."
I wish to subscribe to your newsletter, Dough.
My rover will instakill me even wearing med armor 😂
watch they buff the lazer weapons so your rover kill you the moment you wear it
It has a tendency to headshot you (Which armor does not currently help against at all)
It's a really fun option when you want to spice up your loadouts, two things that hurt most are abysmal mag size and inability to break buildings.
To cancel just switch weapons or press the stratgem button again.
Hi OhDough thank you for the video, a question. Did you have the fire damage ship upgrade in this gameplay?
Yup
Just have it like Fighting Lion from Destiny 2, where it explodes after you release the firing button
EMS only stops chargers if they come into contact while not mid charge, in my experience.
If it hits them while they’re waddling, turning or spawning they’re trapped until it ends, but if they can initiate a charge before touching it (such as when the EMS is between you and them but they’re not in it) it won’t interrupt their charge when they charge through it.
imo any explosive ammo should be able to close bug holes and destroy fabricators and open canisters this should also include the rail gun
Tell that to my plasma shotgun :(
I don't care who Arrowhead sends, I'm not using a 1000 year old weapon in my sci-fi game.
Pissed they nerfed this and the eruptor. I dont feel the power anymore
what to take away from the video.
Hunters get a little too close for comfort with this build even with the rover
100% incendiary shotgun is the optimal option but I do enjoy how efficient x-bow is at clearing eggs.
@@OhDough ive been using sickle and I find it very effective as well
It gives u a really nice ammo economy and it kills hunters pretty fast
Gonna be honest, the rover is useless against the enormous amount of hunters.
Better to just use the shield.
I think thermites get "stickier" if you cook them for a sec. The spikes go out after an instant. But it's purely theoretical...haven't tried it but I noticed it
What's the sound profile on the crossbow, tho? I'd imagine it's pretty low, so probably a solid weapon for playing stealth.
The shot itself is almost completely silent. You can fire it very close to an enemy, and as long as they don't see you shoot it, they'll be drawn towards the explosion instead of you.
I think the crossbow needs two buffs:
Armor breaking and able to destroy bug holes/factories.
That should make the thing waaay more useful.
So basically the eradicator
as far as i tested difference between Diamond symbol and Kite symbol is:
-Diamond symbol will appear if POI wasn't visited or there are uncollected samples
-Kite is explored POI and all samples had been collected
sometimes Diamond symbol will stay, that usually happens when POI was revealed using Radar Station while not having any samples (like the the ammo cache)
Enemies definitely appear to have different thresholds to be stunned by EMS, it is not instant for most of them. Chargers take something like 5 seconds, brood commanders and bile spewers seem to take about 2 seconds, and everything smaller than that takes almost no time.
"Diamond and diamond" on POIs can be resolved as "gem and shape", imo
Note: Leveling matters when dodging Shriekers by staying prone(high ground, low ground) if you're on a high slope/high ground or a hill/pillar, they can get you still.
I find it works well on bots paired with autocannon. X-bow drops patrols full of striders/raiders very quickly and autocannon handles everything else. Didn't try it on bugs but seems my concerns about everything getting to close for it to work was about right.
anyone ever watch these videos and own the game and then halfway through ask yourself why am i watching this and not playing it ? lol
12:41 - "oh were just camping" got me cackling 😂
10:54 what the hell is that in the background. terminid shapeshifter?
It's such an odd weapon. It's clearly not the same niche as the eruptor, only the autocannon and AM rifle are similar. But the nearest comparisons are the nade launcher and plasma shotgun. Nade launcher has it beat on pretty much all counts except mabye aoe. Shotgun holds more ammo and the drop at least has indirect fire uses, with the crossbow it's just an annoyance though an expected one.
I think it needs more capacity, damage, or at least enough pen to do some real explosive damage when you hit exposed flesh, it can't even break storage containers as it stands.
it should have light armor penetration like the rest of the weapons, its still good, but it crumbles when dealing with armor
Maybe try running it stealth vs the bots? Also I would love to see the framethrower with the jetpack.
The twitch drop armor is actually the only medic armor without the green/white/red color scheme. It has a nice green with beige highlights
@time 6:50 you can cancel by changing weapons or checking your map
“CM-17 BUTCHER” armor look pretty good, it’s a heavy medic armor that have great synergy looking with “B-24 ENFORCER” helmet.
I could see running mortars with the crossbow. Stagger groups of enemies and let the mortars mop them up. What it lacks in raw killing power it makes up for in it's AoE size, so you could stun lock a good section of the horde.
X-Bow....
*lights cigar*
.....now that's a name I haven't heard in a loooooooong time.
I really like this crossbow for horde clear, fun gun
As Im seeing. Both rifles are good at crowed clearing and med armor, thats not including the pistol but that has more going for it. So more for spreading damage (or vs med armor) and the pistol having extra for taking up a secondary
In the comments within 5 minutes of the vid dropping... nice!
Literally the only thing bad in this warbond is the adjudicator and that’s it. All the other weapons are good if you know what you’re doing
The thermite is also pretty bad (and probably broken).
And the Eruptor is sort of suboptimal with how hard you have to build around it to make it work, but it's at least fun.
@@BackwardsPancakeI like the thermite. It actually sticks to what I want it to hit, can close holes, and most importantly: it looks cool
23:39 Laying down covering fire 😂
Your commentary is hilarious!
Will try the crossbow when I unlock it though, the grenade pistol will probably change the 'primary meta' for me too
As a shotgun plasma enjoyer, i think i am gonna enjoy eruptor.
I think chargers are affected by EMS strikes unless they are sprinting when they enter it. Maybe a momentum thing
17:44 How the hell did that not kill it ? It was straight on it.
For those worried about the warning weapons remember how bad the dominator was when it dropped? Just give it a bit of time and the devs will bring the guns into a position that feel great to use and fun
6:42 I always do that its better to right click then tap left to throw thats how it works in most games
Hey Dough, if you could change any 1 thing about helldivers 2, what would you change ?
6:41 once that arm is yanked back it's in gods hands.
2:06 that's how you say hello to democracy :)
I want to like the crossbow but the Eruptor outclasses it by a mile. It can one shot headshot all terminids except for Titans and Chargers. It can clear bug holes/ fabricators from across the map with good aim. It has the same shot count and almost as much aoe as the crossbow. The only advantage the bow may have is clearing the eggs but I haven't ran an egg mission with the Eruptor yet so it might be just as good.
pretty sure the crossbow does a lot of direct damage and only a little AoE.
devs need a better stat-screen system for the weapons (e.g. damage 35(10) for the lib-explosive) and include the handling stat as well as a specific armour-pen on the guns/support-weapons/turrets.
the description says that but taking 3 direct hits to kill a brood commander when you only have 5 arrows is hilarious
Cross bow with arc thrower and rover 🔥
Since armor cracking is my hyper specialty i main eruptor. Though if i wanted to be a CC player, definitely see this bow and GP along with atun nades being my loadout.
Chargers charging right thru ems cloud, but if the player walks near it they get slowed. Is fascinating how great everything works when it comes to things that hurt the players.
try the eruptor, matchinegun/ flame/ arc combo next. i was skeptical about the eruptor but man...that combo is so good
I feel like the stun grenade would have been good here. It actually does stop chargers. It also stops titans to make it easier to hit them with that 500kg
I guess instead of using the crossbow as sole purpose to kill the egs efficiently you could bring the new grenade pistol with similar result and having your primary weapon slot free for whatever feels great to use.
Solo on Helldive is insane. Ill never be that good at this game
Xbow is great against bots but I find it TERRIBLE against spewer on bugs, so if you get the spewer (be it acid or nourishing) army set it's absolutely not enjoyable for me. It definitely cleans up clumps of trash ads really well and I highly recommend the weapon for that.
It would be quite good against bugs (in the roles you'd expect it to be)except exactly what you say - it is horrible against the spewers.
So shotgun plasma is better against those pesky bile spewers?
@@omnirico if we're talking of spewers, yes, the plasma punisher is more effective against them, not by much though
im just stuck on medium since things always get out of hand. having to deal with that many enemies while solo? i just wouldnt play the game. i dont like it enough to play anything above medium solo. i dont find the hassle to be fun at all
like the crossbow a little lack luster in certain cases though, I prefer the erupter if you want to get around the reload in BETWEEN shots just swap to secondary then back it is faster then waiting for the reload animation
How are you running/sprinting so fast? It doesn't look like you have gameplay sped up at all based on the mission clock in the top corner.

Do ammo crates fill the grenade pistol or is it grenade packs
Grenade packa
Ive not used the emp in a while but im fairly sure when i was using it the small guys would get stunned just walking into it but anything larger like hulks and chargers if they did not get hit by the initial detonation seemed to just walk right through it.
Though i have noticed if thrown on a bug breech even charges would be stunned upon crawling out so idk it is a weired one.
I can only imagin they have a threshold the emp has to exceed to stun them so crawling out of breeches they are sitting in the emp field longer vs chargeing they can run right through and the initial detonation had a large effect meeting that threshold.
I believe chargers will continue charging if they've already started (but cannot turn)
"Hunters are the scariest mob in this game."
Stalkers: What, am I just non-existent to you?
Crossbow is a lot of fun when you’re the only player running it and you have a decent team to fall back on. Otherwise you’re gonna struggle
Heavy armor idea; super™ cryo asbestos. Perk would provide 85% fire damage resistance. You could make it any class but I would like to see more thicc divers
Cross bow looks like an impact version of the grenade launcher. Not what I expected but that begs the question of what 3-4 stratagems synergies with it. I'm addicted to eagle 500kg & smoke. But obviously I'm bot biased
Have you seen the alpha commander armor?
You can cancel a stratagem you have in your hand if you swap to a weapon.
The crossbow is just a worse eruptor right now imo. I think it is only better for stealth, but eruptor can both close bug holes/fabricators, and shoot from a much longer ranger with precision.
what does the crossbow do better than that new explosive bolt action???
clear bug eggs, that's about it
@@OhDough the bolt action is amazing in clearing bug eggs too though. and can close bug nests.
