I'm probably the odd man out here but I quite like the odd color way on this. It's eye catching for sure. This is a way cooler option for a smart watch than spending hundreds if not thousands on one of the big name phone companies smart watch.

Is it still running on the original battery? Do you use Bluetooth often?
@@mariodacosta1545 I just had to replace the battery in it about a week ago. But my use includes using Bluetooth all the time and utilizing the features on the watch frequently.

Love that Casio, Cheap and has lots of features. I bought mine a few months back. Just when I thought that Casion just could not get any cooler I discovered that the legend Ayrton Senna wore a CASIO TS-1000 back in the day

I've got the all red version of this one and totally love it. Best looking negative display I've seen by a mile and I really like the look of the default time screen. It's become my sleeping watch with those large numerals and backlight.
I ended picking up the light grey/off-white model as my first Casio. It is my favorite of the color options. I'm not too wowed by the notifications so I ended up sitting them off.

I have this in lime green and it's great! I used to wear my 5610 for running just because i thought a tough cookie would be the right one for the job. Now with the GBD-200 the 5610 has a lot of free time to sit on the window and recharge...
Those are complementary colors. The best looking "square" I've actually seen.
orange and grey go well together and is commonly used (not just gshocks but all over the world in general). however, i also agree with jody that the transparent colors do not work together as good as solid ones. anyway, this watch is far from ugly, it's just a hit or miss.

Well I didn't see this coming 😁 I bought one a couple of months ago. I opted for the clear purple. Apparently the two clear models are limited runs. I love this watch. I had a G Shock Rangeman with the MIP display but it was a bit bulky for my liking. I sold it on and had always hoped they would start using that display on some smaller models. The GBX-100 was my first choice but the color I wanted wasn't available so I settled on this one.
Grey + yellow/orange is a very common - and, I think, handsome - color pairing to express "utility." I might prefer one of the other color options, but this one seems fine to me? I really like the display treatment in terms of the clarity, style, and scale of the text, and love the idea of having an always-on world time screen. I've probably scrolled past its listings thousands of times without realizing any of this, as product shots always show the step graphing screen, which just looks kinda like a powerpoint slide. But thanks to this review, now I want one!

What an amazing display, the stock images of this don't do it justice. I think the colour scheme is brilliant also !
Compared to the other GBD-200 model this reminds me of the era of transparent N64 and Game Boy Color-models, I like it! Would probably go for the green/yellow 9ER-version though.
One of the best designed g-shocks ever. Even more so in person. Bought it just because of the design. Airplane mode on to prolong battery life and to get rid off gimmicky functions
Again Casio redefines what a cheap, functional, stylish (okay, maybe not so much in this color way) unkillable tough beater watch is. No other company can truly compete with G-Shock. Keep up the good work Jody and all the best to cute lil' one. Cheers.
They do a nice Purple combo, as well as some single primary colour schemes in red, blue etc

I think that watch is just shy of $300. If you make more than $300 a day then yes maybe it is cheap.

By the way, you may want to check out Withings hybrid watches. They look just like regular analog watches, with the new ScanWatch Horizon even having a pretty neat diver aesthetic. The point is that they include a complication that kinda looks like a small seconds but is actually a small circular display. It shows information such as notifications, steps, burnt calories, heart rate...and allows you to set up alarms, countdowns and chronometers. I grabbed one of the older models and it is just not my cup of tea, but I think it is a pretty interesting concept that more people should know about 😄 *

I don’t need any of the semi smart watch functions but the Bluetooth connectivity is great for setting the watch and it’s functions and that display looks absolutely incredible!
This watch feels like a modern version of the classic and iconic G Shock Square. The only thing that gives me pause is the lack of solar. If this had solar I’d be camping outside my local G Shock boutique or selling my organs to get one on eBay like the MoonSwatchers were a couple of months ago 😂

Just got this watch. I was going for a simple black bulky g-shock. After going through just a few options, my friends absolutely loved this watch in the light gray color. I like this watch the only thing I wish I would prefer improve is the battery life, as it is said to last 2 years and other G-shocks last 5-10 years.
I wonder if you still have it and if the battery still works?? I am hasitant about getting one because once the battery drains the WR will be gone 😢

Another plug for the GBX-100, which has a very similar (if not the same) module, looks great, and I can confirm is compatible with strap adapters, so you can use 22mm straps on it.
I am in love with the display. Most legible G-Shock ever!
I’ve had the neon green one for months now and it gets tons of wrist time because I sleep with it. Can’t beat the vibration alarm to avoid waking the Mrs. I don’t use the fitness functions or notifications as much as they are fussy to set and I don’t want it beeping at me constantly. Even with all that turned off, it’s still a great looking G Shock (depending on the color:) with a killer display.
It’s worth noting that the dual time function is also great as others have mentioned. I used it often on a recent business trip to keep an eye on my home time.
Love this new display! I sprung for the GBD-100 a while back. If this were solar I'd probably spec one in a different scheme.

I purchased this watch because of the color scheme. Has an 80's feel. 2-4 mm larger and would be tight. My only gshock square. Great watch review. .
I’m once again reminded that taste is so utterly personal. I like the colour way. Before I looked at the thumbnail carefully, I thought you’re reviewing one of those ugly rainbow-effect metal g-shocks… but it turns out to be a unique colour way that I find interesting
I bought the black one too. Always wanted a negative display square G Shock but my eyesight didn't agree with 5600 series. Foget about the level 2 and 3 functions, this is so good at just being a great digital watch, it may even replace my SGW-100 as my go to reliable bulletproof digital holiday watch
The readability of that watch is great, I have other negative display G-Shocks that are not legible unless you're in the right light.

Agreed. That is why I got my steel square with a positive display. But I have seen the GBD-200 in person. And I was surprised by the display. Next to the Braun BN0106, it's the only negative that I actually liked.
I love the GB200 and I love this color setup; orange, yellow and grey is a pretty wild but nice color scheme. I personally chose the purple/black/grey model. It reminded me of the transparent gameboy color I had, my first handheld console ever, and it's a much more sober color scheme. But if I hadn't chosen the one that I have, I'd definitely go for this orange/yellow/grey model. Really sleek and eye-catching. I honestly don't know what you're on about lol
My wife has this one in this colour and loves it. A great watch. I for myself have a white GBD-100 with this module and love it as well. 😋

When my Amazfit Bip died, and I was looking for a basic watch that lasts a long time, and shows me my notifications, this was the best one out there.

The orange-onion actually glows underwater, i think it also contains phospors materials especially the translucent yellow hinge between the bezel and strap.
The more I look at the dial the more I like it! Its weird, and different....and I love it!
I’m loving these larger displays and features but wish they would cool it on the color ways and negative displays. But overall excellent review and watch with a lot of useful features in an affordable package. Great stuff Jody!
Two days ago I just bought GBX-100NS-4ER, which is a "brother" to this one. Same functions plus sunsets, sunrises, moon phase and tide graph. Also it have a metal bezel. Its great, but yeah...reading notifications is a little bit pain. So the right upper button starts the running function which im not using. If this button could be set for quick notification opener this would be great. Have a nice day all folks!
I got the black and purple one of these. I almost got this one. Either one is great as my wear it in the sun/mud. Disconnected it completely from my phone because the notifications drove me nuts. Just basically use it as a watch though, doesn't do me much good as a workout watch w/o the heart rate monitor. Wish they would have included that and then made it solar, course then I wouldn't have been able to find it at that price. Super comfortable, and I still like the looks. Have a great one, and keep on the nappy times!
Notification - set - do not disturb - on your phone. I set mine 19:00-07:30. I receive no notifications between those hours. I'm (now) running the gbd 100 - another g for you to look at? A great runner/fitness G-Shock. Got it for £60 from £150.
It's an odd choice of colours for sure. I think a strap change could really take it to the next level. The functionality is brilliant, I'm definitely considering one for my collection

That negative LCD is stunning for a Casio! Everything else (looks wise) not so much 😆 great functionality for a G-Shock too. But I use an Apple Watch for such things, which makes this seem archaic by comparison. I do wear my favorite watches on the other wrist though. If not all at once of course 😏

I love my horological onion plus I got myself the yello or green one (depending on your eyes) sort of wish I'd got the black one though as a refuse collector the bright coloured case/strap has already become discoloured! Wish they'd bring out a simpler tough solar version and that would be my perfect watch! Do miss that countdown timer though but as a binman do love the step counter!
Its not ugly its so unique🤗😊 you might miss it whens gone..I had an old yellow transparent gshock I didnt like the color before so I sold it but I miss that old yellow watch😊

I didn't mind this colourway honestly but I went for the purple and black one as that matches the colours I wear more than this one. I've had to import it from aus to the UK it was about 260 digerydoos so a little higher than the standard colourways you can get in the UK but it was worth it imo love this thing.

Got this at release, I like the colourway and it's a good summer watch, I also like the way I can get in my 10000 steps without actually having to walk😁
Been looking at this one for a while. Actually like the lime green (come on… it’s a fun sports watch!) and in single colours it looks great. Even better than the updated hexioak IMHO 😳 Don’t know if I would use all the functions, but if it hooks up to Strava that’s useful for me as I like mountain biking. It will be interesting when we get some more onion skin off. 😆

Mine's just arrived! Hi vis green one. Display is awesome for a negative display. My only gripe is no solar. I really think tough solar is essential for a connected watch. Being a solar also means you 'need' to wear this watch outside, thus more workouts😁. I don't know how long mine would last though, my guess is a bit over a year.
I like the color, orange/gray is one of my favorite color combinations. There are several sports teams with this color way and they all look great. Take a peek at the Houston Astro’s uniform with orange jersey and grey pants, very stylish. However, I do think Casio could have implemented the color combo a bit better.
That screen is amazing! You should check out one of the baby G shock watches for us smaller wristed people. Specifically the Casio BGD-560-1CR. It’s a smaller version of the 5600 basically.

TicTacArea is great for Casio's. I've gotten two G-Shocks from them. A couple of bucks saved worth a few extra days of shipping. I got a grey one of these GBD-200. Very nice grab and go watch.
Just got the same colorway today and I found it more endearing than the other g-squad colorway (GBD-200SM-1A6ER).
Interesting watch. I perked up in particular when you mentioned Strava since I use that to track my hikes and currently use a Galaxy smartwatch. However, the brief search online wasn't encouraging and the lack of sensors for heart rate etc. puts me off. I'll wait to see the rest of your review and hopefully it will address my questions about how well it works.

I was thinking to fire some objections seen the title, but you calmed me down right after start of the video. I am into GBX-100, btw, but they share the same display, which is really fantastic! I really hope CASIO will improve these models, as they seems really strong alternative to other smartwatches.

I've been wearing a GBD-100 since I got it a bit over a month ago.
It's great, the smart features work well for me and it is incredibly useful.
The alarms are my primary reminders and way of waking up on time.
I changed the workout names to TIMER (all the same, the indicator on top tells which is active) to make it more generic, as that is how I use it.
My phone was already set to only give the notifications I want, did not have to tweak it much to make it manageable.
The notification marker disappears from the watch when you read it on there or remove it from the phone view.
Full-screen notifications are incomplete, to read a bit of the message you have to navigate to them.
I use the running function while taking walks and the monthly goal to encourage me to walk enough but I don't really train with it.
The activity tracking does not get much use as I use the daily log of the app instead.
My main complaints are that everything updates once every half a second, including keypresses.
This makes it a bit slow and clunky to use, though it is very manageable.
The app also only registers achievements when opened and the calorie one is mildly bugged (not the constant increase, that is intended, the way it updates this at midnight).
But to give it credit, the connection is solid and the battery life is very impressive for what it does.
Does it have a battery power indicator?
According to the manual an indicator shows up on screen when it's running low.
Under temporarily low battery voltage this can start flashing and lock out all watch features besides time until the battery recovers.
Have not seen either yet.
@@WyvernDotRed does it let you reply to texts or emails from the watch or just read them? I just ordered the red one today from Zappos they had a sale for $97.99! I just got the GWM5610 and I like it but I think I’ll like this better.
@@strikenryken You can only read them, you can not interact with the notification in any way but clearing the unread marker watch-side.
It's also a bit inconsistent and even buggy depending on the app, Telegram likes to create duplicate notifications that stay unread when you clear them from the system.
I never had a thing about G Shock but when I saw GBX-100 (basically the same as GBD-200) in 2020 I had to get one. As a semi smart watch it is bad really bad. But if viewing as a dumb watch its one of the great Casio watch. MIP display is the selling point as summer esthetic (have a green one). /btw MIP display dont have refresh rate to show hundreds in stopwatch/

works on my puma Roma's.. they're quite grey orange and yellow but I like matching no sweat
I've got the blue one. Pros - lightweight, very legible, vibration alarm, and the app is the way to go to set it up - very easy to use. Cons - I'm not sure the step counter is accurate. I also do not use the phone notifications. If I did want to use those features, they appear very clunky. Finally, not having 10ths or 100ths on the stopwatch bothers me. I guess that's a disadvantage of the MIP display. I wear this watch a lot and its a perfect watch to travel with (easy time changes with the app and vibration alarm). Even with its shortcomings, it's my favorite G-shock.

Casio is quite innovative because this the first watch I’ve seen that has home time, world time, and nappy change time
I'm all but sold on this watch. I love the negative display. the size and legibility and blue tooth on top of all of that! Amazing.
But only one year on a battery and no solar charging? Being that your friend destroyed his trying to change the battery, that makes me think it's not as easy as it would seem. Will there be a solar version forthcoming?

I really like the function of the watch but it would be perfect if it was solar. While changing the battery on an older G-Shock I managed to lose an almost invisible spring. The parts are just too small for me to handle. I have changed batteries in other watches without incident but I have had problems with two G-Shocks.
I would buy this watch in a heartbeat if it was solar.

i bought the black one last year at the launch, loved it so much i've bought the blue one from japan last month and i can't get it off my wrist
