- A juvenile female peregrine follows Xavier into the box after an aborted landing attempt. Xavier puts up a challenge, but she is much bigger than him. This happens three times and you can see her being chased away as she leaves (presumably by Diamond, who eventually returns to restore order).
This is an unusual event. Juveniles often hang around and are usually chased away, rather than killed (as an adult might be). It is believe that the juvenile plumage helps to show that they are not a serious threat.
She is not one of our offspring. We haven't had a successful female fledge for some years, so ours would all be in adult plumage by now. There was Gaia in 2019 (but we don't think she survived long); Maragaay in 2017, a good strong female; and two in 2016).
This bird could have come from the Ophir nest (about 10 km away) or Mount Canobolas (20 km) or elsewhere. Females often disperse over a hundred kilometres or more, unlike males, who tend to stay closer to their home nest..
Ahhh... poor Xavier was so stressed out by the encounter but I think he did the right thing: leave the nest so she can follow him to keep the eggs safe until Diamond comes back. Very interesting that she was trying to bond with him. Great footage. Thank you for sharing.
"Hi! You are cute and I just want to say h....Hey! Where you going? (spots eggs). Oh, You're married. My bad."
Seems like as soon as she got close to the eggs and caught a whiff of their scent, she departed the box very quickly.
When the intruder went towards the eggs! Oh my goodness!!! 😬
Good on you Xavier, rejecting the female juvie's advances. He only has eyes for Di ❤
😉😘🥰❤🎉
The juvie had curious curls in her left wing primaries. Two feathers sticking out a bit. She is a beautiful bird indeed. Must be tough for young ones to claim/usurp. Hope she finds herself a home.
Wow. Amazing footage. It seems Xavier was torn between protecting the eggs and NOT being injured by the juvenile. Thankfully, the eggs were not damaged in this incident...although it seemed to me that this juvenile female was more curious than anything else. Seems like there are more intruder falcons around this season.
Yes, I don't think she would have hurt him. More interested in bonding.
There was a heart in the mouth moment when the first year female stood over the eggs.😬 4:55
Thank you for the video Cilla
Xavier responded bravely
I hope she stops taking an interest in this nest and leaves this area. 🙏
I'm glad the eggs are safe.
ダイヤモンドとザビエルと卵(雛)が無事でよかった😮家族を守った後のダイヤモンドとザビエルの会話してる姿‥やはり深い絆があります🤗
X had a lot to tell Diamond about when she arrived at the box!
She is a big female juvenile. Thank goodness she did not harm the eggs
Thank god the eggs are okay ,poor Xavier it must've been very upsetting for him not to be able to defend the eggs 😮 part of his charm is that he is so much smaller then the female, he is soooo adorable 🤗😍 thank god for DI understanding of the situation and chasing the juvenile off,it takes a woman to beat a woman i guess 😂a very interesting video.
Xav to female juvie: "No, I do NOT want to be more than friends!"
Quite the defense to let her know that he’s a married man and is not available!
@@sparkleeaglejill8938 😁 Yup, that's our guy! Lou the loyal prince.
Xavier’s reward was being able to sit on the eggs for a few precious moments. 😊❤
I was so worried for the eggs! Thank goodness Mama Diamond took care of business!
🇭🇲 How VERY disturbing, but thank goodness that the female juvenile intruder DIDN'T damage the eggs
🥚🥚🥚 which she could have, whether intentionally or not. At least everything was restored to a safe 'normal' in the end. With great work by Diamond and Xavier! and
"Thank you" for the video of what took place! 👍😊👋
I was never worried. The juvenile had no reason to damage the eggs.
Xavier did what he had to do. Thankfully, Diamond got back in time.
I am glad the eggs are safe🥚✨
Poor Xavier that must have been so nerve wracking for him especially so close to hatch date. We had only male hatchings the last few clutches so didn't realise even young juvenile females can be alot bigger than a mature male adult.😅
Do you really think a bird worries about things like hatch dates?
@@planetfabulous5833Of course they do. Have u not notice the behaviour changes in bird and many animals when their young is involved
Considering seeing they can hear chicks chirping, good chance they have some awareness of developmental stage, especially a bird who feeds his eggs …..
The juvenile females are larger than their fathers by the time they are four weeks old.
I wonder what Diamond would have done if she was the one there instead of Xavier..
I wonder if that is the same falcon captured on the cams a few days ago?
Such a drama in the life of this beautiful birds!
That was amazing! I watched it many times, tks. This long, tall beauty was talking sweet to Xavier, can't blame her for trying our handsome dad. She probably doesn't know about the starlings, though lol. But he did well. I had to slo-mo her ackkkk, which step is it?, on the 2nd visit, great demonstration of peregrine flying skills!
Go get 'em tiger!
OOh nice digs you got here. Can I move in? nup!! Get out you harlot!
Very interesting video, thank you 😊👍 When the juvenile left the box and Xavier sat on the ledge and looked in different directions to see where she was flying at, was so cute 😍
I was very surprised that a female was trying to breed foreign eggs 🤔 Does anybody know why she did this?
She's really too young to be a serious threat to Diamond, but just branching out, chancing her arm, and seeing what's around.
Although it wasn’t working, do you think him leaving was a strategy to lure her out of the box in hopes she wouldn’t follow him back?
Sorry, I don't know
The situation is very strange...the other day, Xavier defended the eggs from Diamond, while now he leaves them unattended with an intruder in the nest...it would be nice to understand what goes on in the minds of these feathered friends of ours...
There's no reason to think the eggs were under threat by the juvenile. She was curious, perhaps 'flirting' with Xavier, but not a serious concern
When are the babies expected?
I believe that the first is due to hatch around the 1st October.
@@Lyndell-P thank you
@@cathparcat You are very welcome! 👋 I should be asleep as it is just after 1.15 am for me but I
couldn't sleep, so I thought I'd check my Tablet device and I noticed your reply. I'll sit up a little longer and then try again to sleep. I will now also check also Boxcam to check on Diamond. Hopefully she is sleeping soundly. We are all looking forward to when the chicks hatch. Then (of course) Diamond and Xavier will really have then 'hands' full - or should I say 'talons'. 😊 👋 "Goodnight" 🥱 to you from me! 😴😉😴💤💤💤
oh wow
Tough day in ye olde nest
この女の子は卵を温めようとしてますね
なんだかちょっとしんみり😢
Interesting. These is a long period without female chicks. This young bird might remind the couple of what they might foget.
But then hes not pretecting the eggs.
Is this perhaps the babysitter peregrine? 🤣🤣
What the hell, X!?! I don't care if she's bigger, you don't run away and abandon the eggs! You don't have to beat a bully up, just bloody their nose once and they'll stop.
X was being smart.
The intruder was not making menacing gestures. In fact she seemed like she was trying to initiate a ' relationship' . X attempted to lure the larger female out of the box where his superior flying skills could be put to use.
Only human males have ego issues😉
I wonder if he was concerned they might get broken while trying to defend?
Surely you love D&X no doubt, yet She is not a bully anyway, she was bowing and dancing to him asking for bonding. Xavier has already done the most manly clever thing, not harming the juvenile as he knew she follows him, so he fluffed up, showed his anger and left as she will follows him to leave. Of course it was scary to us for their egg’s safety, but it seems like in general falcons and eagles and kinder to their own species unless in very strenuous conditions. I have only seen male fighting males and never male beating up females in falcons and eagles at all. They are not hyenas. 😅 hope she finds Indigo and make a new nest of their own somewhere else instead.
She wasn’t bullying just trying to bond, and find a home of her own. In leaving X protected his eggs, hoping she would fly out after him, which she did, all 3 times, eventually. Thankfully all is well, again, for now.
@@LeicesterRose Yes, I definitely agree that X's main objective was to get the juvie female out of the nest and away from his precious eggs.
