    "it doesn't need to be symmetrical" Me: Screaming in autistic OCD: "YES IT DOES!" Btw, i've been playing rime as well. I didn't insulate a single tile so far, nor did i use space heaters. I found a cool steam vent, put a water pump in there and started a bristle blossom hydroponic farm, using insulated pipes. That area has warmed up perfectly to a nice 23 degrees. So far i figured I only needed to warm my food production area. And make sure my hatches are comfortable. That worked...i'm up to 350k food now, i use 2 mini electrolizer set ups (cryptic fox) so oxygen is plentyful as well. Hatches are pooping out coal and I just found a natural gas geyser. So that's the next step in my base. Love your videos though learning a lot!

    I love your mini-base! It's so cute ^^
    You could shift your two rooms once to the right and add a mini mess hall in place of the current bathroom.
    You could probably have set up your plumbed bathroom by the way. Your researcher is so fast that by the time you are done building the pipes the research would be finished ;)

    The way I fight the cold on RIME is to heat my fresh water supply to 100°. Use automation to control a water heater and put it on it's own 1k watt circuit using a small transformer (water heater draws 960 watts). The heat will spread out through the base pretty quickly but you can run pipes through the floors of the upper rooms using only a *few* radiant pipes to move the heat around faster. You can use polluted water for heating, also. The hot water into hydroponic planters or a pipe through a line of normal planters keeps the farm nice and toasty. I find the electric heat "radiator" does next to nothing in this environment. If the hot water is also your bathroom supply it keeps the bathroom nice and warm even with just regular pipes.

    • @blubbber
      @blubbber 5 лет назад +1

      just heat it to +20-25°C. Thats enough for any plant and slowly heats the base to a comfortable temperature. Your dupes don't realy need a warm base, only the plants. After insulating the base the oxygen will heat it up pretty quick (as it comes out at 75°C . Using the fresh water also as coolant for the metal refinery helps.

    • @3DPDK
      @3DPDK 5 лет назад

      @@blubbber My game play is a bit different than most you see on RUclips. I try to utilize the natural space as much as possible and I rarely build insulation unless a steam vent is too close to the base. I'm not sure but it seems if the duplicates body temperature gets too low or too high they stress out faster - that may just be my perception. I also get a kick out of working up complex automation. By heating the water to 37°C I set up heating zones using controlled valves and thermostats. With the valves closed the water sits in the pipes and slowly transfers the heat into the rooms. I keep the entire base a nice, even emerald green except for the grek ranch. They like things a bit warmer.

    Food is why i immediately set up ranching in my Rime world.
    I wanted to keep burning coal because they generate quite a bit of heat and other than around the printer growing plants would be a major issue. So 3 rooms of hatches with 7 in each room ftw lol. Lots of food, lots of coal. Just gotta set up an auto-kill b ecause thats a lot of hatches to kill.

  • @thedougman2008
    @thedougman2008 5 лет назад +1

    When I did this, I used ceiling lights for the bristle blossom, then had a space heater about every 4 spaces with automation to keep it from getting too hot because one of mine was getting way too hot. You can barely grow reeds too. They need to be one space from the space heater.

  • @etherios78
    @etherios78 5 лет назад

    A small advise. Best thing to do for heating with the least amount of energy use is to Pump the hot water to your water tank after you remove the salt and then have pipes all over the base... so with 2 normal pumps you can heat up everything in your base ... you just need more water pipes to pass by the base ... like actual central heating and you only need 2 pumps and 1 water "tank" which you already have.

    9x11 -3 blocks for sweeper farm rooms. I am still playing on your last map on hard mode because I play way more then you. I started the rime map with you as well. I got to say I really enjoy playing the maps along with you. And now that I am caught up I can commit YAY. I set up a metal refiner and I am using granite Pipes to snake threw the granite flooring of my base for my cooling loop. I have lots of refined copper now which is nice for wires and stuff. I am almost half way done with insulating my base. I have 10 dupes and I started work on the satellite base. There is a problem with completely cut off bases. The dupes have to go back to the printer to skill up. So at least give them a path when you want to skill up. If they are maxed on the skills you want then no need for connection.

    Hmm the salty area could be a nice oppertunity for you to plant lettuce. You have more then enought water there to make a bleach stone storage and then enought salt water to keep them going. However the only sustainable method to get renewable bleach stones are Squeaky Puft's which may be hard to get hold of on Rime. Then you also have a reason to run a rust oxidizer for some more heat generation. Considering there's like no use for Chlorine on rime(all bacteria dead) It could be a reasonable way to dispose of it by feeding the Puft's.
    I still think the hydrogen should be harvested and used thou. You could pump it into a insulated room with a door in the bottom, heat the hydrogen up by either placing a liquid tepidizer in a artificial pond of water or some space heaters and use it as your heat system. You could even consider adding a electrolyzer and some airflow tiles at the bottom to spread some more warmer oxygen, you can think about pumping it around later If needed but since hydrogen flows up and oxygen will go below It's not really needed to set up a fully enclosed area. Ok air pressure will be a bit high at times, but that also saves you some water since the electrolyzer won't consume water if Idle.

      Can't eat lettuce by itself though. And mushroom wraps need the gas range

    • @magnuscarlsson9969
      @magnuscarlsson9969 5 лет назад

      @@S_Black You *can* eat raw lettuce and each plant provides 4800 kcal(or 400 kcal / cycle). If you got squeaky pufts and salt water It's even the most efficient means to feed dupes and It's also one of my only food sources on the two mega hot asteroids since waterweeds can handle very high temperatures.
      Not to mention Mushroom wraps are probably the easiest recipie on the gas range to confidently sustain indefinately, if you have access to Dusk caps and Saltwater.
      One puft can sustain five Dusk caps on It's own given there's enought polluted oxygen(Ain't hard to achive with a tank of polluted water or a few composts), one Squeaky Puft can sustain about 50 plants of waterweed with the required bleach stone alone and survive on one rust oxidizer.
      So as long as you have access to brine or salt water, Waterweeds are acctually very cost effective. However It's also pretty uneccesary since dirt are such a common and easy thing to manage as long as you compost all the extra seeds from melwood plants.

    One problem with converting hatches to meat in the presence of other hatches, is that meat is on the hatch menu. When you kill them down to the room size limit they get hungry and can immediately devour the meat. This also marginally uncreses the chance to lay sage hatch eggs, which are probably only desirable in forest biomes (though it's a pretty tiny increase).

    Water tepidizers give you a lot more heat per power consumed than space heaters.
    Takes a little more research but it's probably worth it.

    • @josephburchanowski4636
      @josephburchanowski4636 5 лет назад

      Technically even the batteries are better than space heaters, provided you have the space and materials.
      14.4 normal batteries produce the heat of 1 space heater, but use 1/5 the power; it does cost 7.2 times the space and raw metal.
      Tepidizers of course are better than literally everything for heating; except maybe a max tinkering dupe producing steel out of a metal foundry. Of course they also don't compare to the heat production of a steel nat gas generator or petrol generator operating above 200 c. A thermium generators above 900c produce ungodly amounts of heat.

    • @erictred4529
      @erictred4529 5 лет назад

      Ya 900 watts of power no thanks.

    • @josephburchanowski4636
      @josephburchanowski4636 5 лет назад

      @@erictred4529 960 watts consumption. But over 4,064 kDTU heating per second; or equivalent to 225.77 space heaters. And you don't need to keep it constantly running 24/7 if you need less heat, so in the end that large power consumption just means you need to keep it on a separate power line, but a single coal generator with a battery can keep it running at 62.5% up time, or 2540 kDTU/s average; or about 141 space heaters. BTW a coal generator can only run 5 space heaters non-stop, only 90 kDTU/s.
      So liquid tepidizers are extremely worth it if you need low electricity cost heating.

    You didn't have to change the blossoms out, a filtered bathroom loop would have worked to feed them. You wonder where all your heat is going and yet.... still haven't fully insulated your base. You drained the hydroponic tiles all wrong as well; all you had to do was cut the pipe just above the pump after shutting it off, then put a bridge in to force the water back down to the well. It's incredibly frustrating that you have had the game for so long, done tutorials to explain things, and still have such a low level of understanding about the simple game mechanics.
    If this is an example of how you play all games, I think I will just have to avoid your channel completely.
