Wireless FTP transfer IS NOT a NEW thing with the Sony A7III !! This feature been there since day one, I still don't believe all the hype! You don't need any firmware update to use the FTP features on the Sony A7III in order to do wireless tethering. I been using the A7III since 2018 and been using wireless FTP tethering since, it's an out of the box feature! What firmware 4.0 did was to add additional configuration/functions to this feature, which of course is super nice to have. Great video cheers!

Thanks for the info man! I finally managed to set this up thanks to you! Although one possibility not mentioned here is if you have a NAS server running, you can do the same. for example with QNAP I used QuFTP to run an FTP server and it worked more or less like what you did with the windows app. This and setting up a button shortcut on the camera to send single images via FTP is a great combo to send a few pictures after they´ve been captured directly to the NAS instead of hooking up the SD card!

Yeah This new feature is really awesome and gamechanger! You can either connect to a WIFI Router or create a WIFI Hotspot with your Smartphone and Connect to that! The Important Part is to setup a FTP Server in your Phone or PC so that the Camera can connect to that FTP Server and be able to send the photos to that FTP server. Thanks for watching!

Hi , I tested it once again and I didn't face any downside or problem! Everything seems to be working fine! Face/Eye AF works flawlessly! For Mac users, If you search on the internet or RUclips "How to setup a FTP server in MAC", you'll find a lot of tutorials! I think setting up a FTP server in Mac is easy compared to windows and as far as I know you can use the OS built in FTP Feature to set up a FTP Server! for iPhone, I don't know if there is any app that can set up a FTP server or not, but you can use Sony's Official Transfer and Tagging App if you didn't find any 3rd party app! In case somebody doesn't see their Sony connected to an Android 11, enable the FTP connection anyway and it will show connected and work. It might not show when you set the WiFi in "Wi-Fi Settings", but only when you enable the FTP Server one.
Is this firmware update just for the A73 and not A7R3? Or Im I doing something wrong? Does anyone know? The updater says that it doesent support the model?
When you turn on the camera WIFI , the camera automatically connects to the WIFI hotspot of the the phone. for the WIFI FTP App, the IP address might change sometimes and you only need to change that IP address in the camera FTP server settings and after that the camera connects to phone easily! Don't worry about this cause it would not take you more than 1 or 2 minutes. Cheers!

@@MehranHadad No worries. Got it done today. The issue is on the Privacy & Security on MacOS. The lock 🔒 needs to be Open before starting the process. 😆 So happy to be able to update it. Imagine that my firmware was still version 1. It took me 3 other versions to manage the process.
If you turn off the camera and turn it on again, The FTP Connection will automatically reconnect to the smartphone in less than 5 seconds (we suppose you didn't turn off the smartphone ftp server and hotspot), but if you turn off the phone ftp server and hotspot and turn it on next time, it might change the IP Address, So you might have to edit that IP in Camera FTP settings in order to reconnect to the smartphone! Hello,I can connect to my Mac with another computer via SFTP protocol with 22port but not connect with 21port. Mac also cannot connect with another computer if I use FTP protocol.Does that mean my Mac didn't't turn on FTP server? Sony A7iii is asking to check server setting,i have tried both 21 and 22 port.

Hi dude! It is still there, you should first change your File Format settings from XAVC S 4K to XAVC S HD and then you will that under the record setting the 50 or 100 would appear! Cheers!
Hey Mehran, I am trying to set up the FTP on my PC and it isn't going as smoothly as in your video... After I download the filezilla, the app that opens is the "Administration Interface" and not the "Filezilla Server" as shown in the video. It says I need to configure my passive mode settings from the administration interface in order to access the server from the internet. It also says I need to forward the same range of ports in my router. It says that I can use the "Network Configuration Wizard" to help with that but when I go through the steps in that wizard, nothing changes and I have no idea what any of this is lol. Please halp :)
If sony releases a new firmware for it , it should work! most of the new sony cameras have the FTP feature built in. but the new thing with this firmware was that the camera can send photos AUTOMATICALLY while shooting. you can check the a6400 ftp feature and maybe it had this feature from the beginning! Unfortunately I couldn't find any app for iphone cause i don't have a ios device! but iphone users can still use the sony's official transfer and tagging app, good luck!
I try it with my a7c and it gives me an error when uploading the file to the ftp directory, and my ip changes too. Do I have to pay for the app so that this does not happen?
No you don't have to pay for the app, the free version works flawlessly! I don't know exactly what is wrong with your process, but maybe you could test it with another phone? Thanks for watching dude
@@MehranHadad obviously you haven't use the A7 2 series or early sony full frame. or the APSC A6000 series. it helps to touch up the skin smoothness, so you don't have to waste time touch it up afterwards with PC software on the skin.

The Camera can only connect to 1 FTP server at a time! but I don't know if there is any way to connect the other 2 phones to the 1st phone which is the FTP server and copy the transferred files from the 1st phone (which is the FTP server and has received the photos from camera) to the other 2 phones! Tried in android, worked flawlessly. But in win 10, after filezilla server, when connecting the administration interface shows message "Verifying Certificate..." and nothing happens then. Tried configuring windows builtin ftp server, but no use. Can you help??
@@pematamang9268 For connecting to your android phone, turn off the wifi, Turn on your phones WIFI HOTSPOT , and then go to your sony camera wifi settings and connect to your phone's wifi. i think you made a mistake by connecting to your home's wifi!
I didn't pay much attention to the battery usage unfortunately! But I don't think it makes a huge impact on battery usage! you should test it to see how it affects the battery! Thanks for watching dude

After a few more tries I was able to use the Wi-Fi FTP server app to correctly connect my A7iii to my phone using my local Wi-Fi and also by turning on a Wi-Fi hotspot in the phone. I also used a video to help me set up an FTP server in windows10 on my laptop. The camera is now connecting to the FTP server on the laptop using local Wi-Fi and sending images automatically. The one thing I haven't accomplished yet is setting up the laptop FTP and router with port forwarding correctly to allow me to send images FTP to my laptop from remote locations. If I get this setup correctly will the camera be able to ftp to my laptop from outside my Wi-Fi range across town or further away? That's the part I'm not sure about and that was what I was hoping to accomplish. To save the time spent having to offload the images from the camera once I get home. If it will only work from a remote computer to my home that doesn't really save me any time. I would still have to offload the images to that computer. Thanks for any info and best of luck to you!

For sending photos to a remote server, I think you should get a static IP Address for the remote computer and then with the filezilla app i think you might be able to share those photos with the remote pc! This is awesome. I've been waiting for this for so long! One issue you might be able to help with, each time I restart the ftp app or turn back on hotspot, my ip address changes and then the camera doesn't connect. So I have to edit the address on the camera each time I want to connect. Any fixes?
Yeah this is really gamechanger dude! Unfortunately I have this problem too and it's related to the FTP app which uses different IP Addresses each time! I checked the settings and didn't find any option to set the IP Address manually! so it changes the address each time we start it and we have to edit the IP in the camera settings unfortunately! do any one know how to get the native path of a folder on MAC without downloading any other app. the new FileZilla does not allow you to select the folder, you have to type in the actual path

I partly understand why they update the a7 III and not give the a7R III this update bur on the other hand… i understand the a7R IV is here so no updates anymore to the a7R III but they sell them well.. they even still make the camera, why make it as you don’t give it firmware updates anymore…
If you have an app which can share that FTP Transfer Folder to DROPBOX , That might be possible! Unfortunately I don't use cloud backup services and I don't have enough information about that! Thanks for watching!

Yes a real bummer we did not get real-time tracking for video :( We have get a7r4 or a7s3 or a camera with bad viewfinder So 60mp or 12mp or bad viewfinder or spend $6000
The 29 Minute record limit on Sony A7 III and other old Sony Cameras is because of a Trade Agreement about TAX! For example Camcorders which were able to shoot more than 30mins would have been hit by TAX! but this rule did not effect the cameras under 30 min. but this Agreement Expired 1 or 2 years ago (Don't know exactly when but it was before Sony A6400 was introduced which had more than 30 min recording) and now newer cameras don't have this limit as far as know and if I'm right! Technically it should be possible on the Sony A7R III too! I Don't know why sony hasn't released a firmware update for Sony A7R III to add this FTP Feature! They might do it in the future!

Hi I updated the firmware on my A7iii and now I can film on 4K just 24 o 25 fps, no more 50 0r 100. Do you know why?

When you restart your phone the IP in the server changes, so you need to adjust it in your camera.

The Camera can only connect to 1 FTP server at a time! but I don't know if there is any way to connect the other 2 phones to the 1st phone which is the FTP server and copy the transferred files from the 1st phone (which is the FTP server and has received the photos from camera) to the other 2 phones! It might be possible! you should ask someone who has knowledge in NETWORK! Thanks for watching and good luck!
Tried in android, worked flawlessly. But in win 10, after filezilla server, when connecting the administration interface shows message "Verifying Certificate..." and nothing happens then. Tried configuring windows builtin ftp server, but no use. Can you help??
Unfortunately I don't use this method anymore! But it might be related to your windows firewall or Anti Virus! I'm not really sure

still cant record 10bit even on ext recorder,,
other brands just bring up 10bit by updating firmware, fuji xt2, lumix gh4/g9/s1, etc

@@pematamang9268 For connecting to your android phone, turn off the wifi, Turn on your phones WIFI HOTSPOT , and then go to your sony camera wifi settings and connect to your phone's wifi. i think you made a mistake by connecting to your home's wifi!
How much faster do you feel FTP transfer uses up the battery power?
I didn't pay much attention to the battery usage unfortunately! But I don't think it makes a huge impact on battery usage! you should test it to see how it affects the battery! Thanks for watching dude

@@MehranHadad thank you for replying. You made a very informative and well-made video. After a few more tries I was able to use the Wi-Fi FTP server app to correctly connect my A7iii to my phone using my local Wi-Fi and also by turning on a Wi-Fi hotspot in the phone. I also used a video to help me set up an FTP server in windows10 on my laptop. The camera is now connecting to the FTP server on the laptop using local Wi-Fi and sending images automatically. The one thing I haven't accomplished yet is setting up the laptop FTP and router with port forwarding correctly to allow me to send images FTP to my laptop from remote locations. If I get this setup correctly will the camera be able to ftp to my laptop from outside my Wi-Fi range across town or further away? That's the part I'm not sure about and that was what I was hoping to accomplish. To save the time spent having to offload the images from the camera once I get home. If it will only work from a remote computer to my home that doesn't really save me any time. I would still have to offload the images to that computer. Thanks for any info and best of luck to you!

For sending photos to a remote server, I think you should get a static IP Address for the remote computer and then with the filezilla app i think you might be able to share those photos with the remote pc! This is awesome. I've been waiting for this for so long! One issue you might be able to help with, each time I restart the ftp app or turn back on hotspot, my ip address changes and then the camera doesn't connect. So I have to edit the address on the camera each time I want to connect. Any fixes?
Yeah this is really gamechanger dude! Unfortunately I have this problem too and it's related to the FTP app which uses different IP Addresses each time! I checked the settings and didn't find any option to set the IP Address manually! so it changes the address each time we start it and we have to edit the IP in the camera settings unfortunately! do any one know how to get the native path of a folder on MAC without downloading any other app. the new FileZilla does not allow you to select the folder, you have to type in the actual path

Unfortunately sony still hasn't released a new firmware for RIII with this new feature!
I partly understand why they update the a7 III and not give the a7R III this update bur on the other hand… i understand the a7R IV is here so no updates anymore to the a7R III but they sell them well.. they even still make the camera, why make it as you don’t give it firmware updates anymore…

No. FTP is a direct connection between two devices. Dropbox/Onedrive are proprietary services that require an app or custom-built software.

@ if the FTP app you use on your phone has access to that folder, that should technically work.
If you have an app which can share that FTP Transfer Folder to DROPBOX , That might be possible! Unfortunately I don't use cloud backup services and I don't have enough information about that! Thanks for watching!

I haven't seen this hdmi problem as you described dude! But when I want to watch my recorded video and I press the playback button, there is huge delay while loading it in my monitor!

What about the 29minute record limit?
The 29 Minute record limit on Sony A7 III and other old Sony Cameras is because of a Trade Agreement about TAX! For example Camcorders which were able to shoot more than 30mins would have been hit by TAX! but this rule did not effect the cameras under 30 min. but this Agreement Expired 1 or 2 years ago (Don't know exactly when but it was before Sony A6400 was introduced which had more than 30 min recording) and now newer cameras don't have this limit as far as know and if I'm right! Its more usefull a cabled conection to a smartphone instead of WiFi only, that would be a game changer.

Technically it should be possible on the Sony A7R III too! I Don't know why sony hasn't released a firmware update for Sony A7R III to add this FTP Feature! They might do it in the future!
