There is no way someone didn’t hear Josephine yelling with half her body out the window, they just chalked it up to a druggist, kids fooling around, or something they just don’t want to have to deal with. And I definitely agree the race of the victims and the perpetrator made a difference. Please, no wonder the cops don’t look around too much. I would have to say though, that don’t most cops know the smell of decomp? Didn’t the cop know what that horrible smell was, and it wasn’t a dang roast or whatever…?
@KraftyKreator I read about Gary Heidnik claiming that the smell was due to him falling asleep while there was a pot roast cooking on the stove or in the oven on Wikipedia approximately seven years ago and I literally laughed out loud when the article stated that the cops automatically and immediately took his word for it and left. It's disturbingly comical yet not at all surprising how incompetent and useless the police are and what's more is that they seem to be getting worse. Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't someone who's trying to become a police officer have to be smart to some extent? If I had it my way, anyone who's in the process of taking the police officer exam should also be required to pass a "common sense" test because there are some cops that wouldn't know their ass from a hole in the ground SMH V
I grew up in Jersey close to Philly and I was a kid when this story broke. I remember it was on the news constantly and as soon as you narated about Philadelphia and Gary I said outloud to myself... OMG Gary Heidnick!!!!!!!
My father worked for the Philadelphia Sheriff's Department at the time as deputy sheriff - he was in the Philadelphia Daily News taking Heidniek into court. We still have the picture. RIP Dad.
Oh boy.... Heard y'all talk about the coins glued to the wall and knew exactly which Gary we're talking about? Dude told the detectives that the women chained in the basement were there when he bought the house. Wow
Nahh Josefina being accused of being complicit and that she didn’t save the others is WILD. If she’d died or put up a fight like the others then they’d all be dead. I know it’s the trauma and the way Gary pitted the women against each other but it’s so hard not to be disgusted by the fact that none of the other girls even thanked her.
Josefina is 100% a hero, no two ways about it. Not only that, but an incredibly smart, courageous, compassionate and determined woman. I take my hat off to her. Gary may well have been schizophrenic and was clearly mentally ill, but was also very clever and manipulative. He was no dummy. I guess I understand on some level the attitudes of the other women against Josefina, but it breaks my heart for her, after all she did, never giving up and doing everything in her power to gain their freedom. As for the defense lawyers, I'm just about speechless. Disgusting is all I can say about them. Might have been good for Gary to remain in prison until his death but I don't have enough faith in the justice system to feel comfortable that he would have remained in prison indefinitely, so the death penalty was the right decision in my opinion. This certainly is one of the most depraved cases, for sure. If any of the claims about Gary's childhood are true then I can at least make a tiny bit of sense of how he came to be the way he was. It's shocking and sad what some people will do to others.
I'm almost 60 but I vividly remember this story from when it broke onto the international stage. I was expecting you to say at the end that Gary's body was never claimed, which was what I recalled being the case, but as you didn't I am wondering if my recollection was wrong! I remember that even though he wanted to get each of the captive women pregnant, that regardless of the number of rapes he forced each woman to endure, that none of them became pregnant by him. For that and for them I am grateful. Regardless of how many children he DID sire, because he certainly wasn't a "father" to them, I wonder how THEY have coped with the legacy of this abomination of a homo sapien being biologically related to them? I hope for their sakes, that the mental illness and his psychological profile of aberrant belief and behaviour passed them over too. My heart goes out to the victims and I pray that Sandra and brave combative Debra finally have peace! Poor Josephine did what she had to to stay alive and help the others and she IS a hero! Thanks CF. Well done!
our society does so little to help the people that need it most, and infinite rationalization as to why those that need the most help dont "deserve" to be helped. the replies to this comment will most likely validate this sentiment. i hate this country sometimes
As soon as I heard the name "Gary", I immediately knew which case this was. I heard it once before and I'm happy to leave it at that. I have no desire to hear it again.
My God. How these women got through each day is utterly amazing. I am in awe of their resilience. RIP to victims Sandra and Deborah. I pray this monster's survivors have found peace in their lives as well. Death was too lenient for that quintessentially evil bastard.

I’ve been reading a lot of information connected to the military, about undercover operations. I wonder if Gary was brainwashed or experimented on when he went for treatment while he was in the army? I’m just beginning this episode, so I guess things will become clearer. If I can stomach the rest of the episode.

fact of the matter is: too many people living in a small space with too few police and too lenient prosecutors has this result every single time. Other countries like Japan have more success because the law is less likely to dole out a slap on the wrist. Also: imagine what the city would look like had the locals pushed harder for more of a missing person task force in the area. Bottom line: get involved. Be an active citizen. Work together to overcome issues. Especially crime. Quit allowing prosecutors to book and release. Build more prisons and county jails. Then: maybe you can be proud of where you live.

I clicked on it was about him when he asked "if she could get pregnant"
I don't think i can listen anymore
One of the worst stories on Casefile ever.
Yeah I had to stop this one. So far beyond horrific. And this really happened. Absolutely awful
You must have said that right at the part where she thinks she’s pregnant….
Thanks CF. Well done!
This is unbelievable😔 I'm a half way through don't know if I can hear this until the end! Hmmm
Excellent podcast. Very emotional and brutally honest.
oh, he was a religious cultist. recurring theme in true crime it seems
Good morning casefile world frm a stormy UK warp up warm. Iam staying in bed for this 1 ✌♥️👊
UK here too and wrapped in several blankets 💜❤️
our society does so little to help the people that need it most, and infinite rationalization as to why those that need the most help dont "deserve" to be helped. the replies to this comment will most likely validate this sentiment. i hate this country sometimes
2 hours!? Christmas came early in 2024 ❤
‘Built his family in his basement’ wtf
Ive never heard of this case before. Awful
I never heard of this disgusting case
These things get me through some hard times.
As soon as I heard the name "Gary", I immediately knew which case this was. I heard it once before and I'm happy to leave it at that. I have no desire to hear it again.
I remember this story on the news. 😢
Hello just starting to listen.❤
my favorite channel 💗
Beautiful ending tho ! Amazing episode
New Subscriber 🎉🎉
My God. How these women got through each day is utterly amazing. I am in awe of their resilience. RIP to victims Sandra and Deborah. I pray this monster's survivors have found peace in their lives as well. Death was too lenient for that quintessentially evil bastard.
ok when it got to the screwdrive i think i may have to stop. i hate this country. this should never happen.
Good evening from Australia, it’s warm and have a fan on, getting comfy for this long casefile❤🇬🇸😊
Move then.
This country? You should hear what goes on in some parts of the world.
@@jenniferj5324 yes i know it happens all over. but america lies and tells everyone its the greatest

Always ❤
Omg what a terrifying thing to happen and do to anyone!!
* thank you fir your content cover of this.
** pleasant voice! And extremely good start telling skills, I did have to speed it up to 1.25x eventually because I wanted to keep listening but it started feeling dragged out, and to many ads, but that's okay, the storytelling is worth it
That case makes me so sad 😢😑🖤
38:34 This makes sense! I’ve thought the same thing.
Why is it always the religious ones?
They are not religious,,they hide behind religion .
But it's not, though.
This is like the movie Don’t Breathe 😮
Problem is there are more like Gary out there
My favorite channel too.
I’ve been reading a lot of information connected to the military, about undercover operations. I wonder if Gary was brainwashed or experimented on when he went for treatment while he was in the army? I’m just beginning this episode, so I guess things will become clearer. If I can stomach the rest of the episode.
Ah yes, poor Gary. Wtf.
@@Bones.xNo, not “poor Gary” as he’s a sadistic monster.
But the MK Ultra bs and all of the other “medical” horrors that the US government pushes onto people is pretty GD’ed horrific, right?
The government needs to be held to account. That’s it. Not “poor Gary” at all. ✌🏽
Even so, he must have been a psychopath in the first place.
@@barbarama well they are trained literally to kill humans for the private military industrial complex for the profits of mostly oil and fossil fuel companies. and then they are dumped back on the street for us t o deal with when they finally break
just like the police, it takes a certain type of person that is attracted to the job in the first place
MK ultra for sure
I'm all ears!
It's like 'Kiss the Girls'.
Terrifying.
This episode is a whole different level of f*ckedupness altogether
Josephine is a brave girl
They were all just trying to survive. No winners here folks.
fact of the matter is: too many people living in a small space with too few police and too lenient prosecutors has this result every single time.
It's about poverty and lack of access to a decent education. The US has been "tough on crime" for decades and it has not worked.
Btw, Japan puts innocent people to death all the time. It's a joke that you want to emulate them.
Gary Heidnick..one of the worst😵👿 reminds me of Cameron Hooker & his victim Colleen Stan😨
thanks video
God could put a stop to this, but he doesn't want to. He is The Demiurge.
I’m sure whor eing her self out was exactly what the social worker had in mind.
11:26 wow, true genius at play here. Who could.have guessed that
I don't understand how Garry could rape the women one after the other. Was he taking Viagra or something
