Also yes it is sus & low key racist that him and Leshawna had no real romantic relationship. I used to ship them as a kid & I was disappointed how fast they came & went.
I kinda wonder if the writers wanted DJ to be gay. You're right it does seem notable that they never had him have any romances and the only thing that I can think of is that they had an idea but they weren't allowed to do it. With what we know about animation at the time, that's about the only thing I can think of that wouldn't have been allowed.
Listen. I am in delusional land. In my world the final two of TDA was Lindsay and Harold. In my world Harold and Leshawna get together by then, and just stay together. Because seriously. WHAT WAS THE POINT. And the thing is, they were already acting like they were dating in WT. Leshawna, why are you apologizing to Harold about Alejandro? You're not even dating. Why did you specifically give a shout out to Harold in your song. Basically going, not all men - Harold would neverrrr Literally nothing would change between them if they just were dating. Except we'd get more fluff, and the world would be a better place.
Lashawna is a racial stereotype and a product of early 2000s “Exotic” women craze. The idea that Harold fetishizes Lashawna has always made me uncomfortable. He is a basement dweller, he’s literally ignorant and Leshawna acted as his compass in a world that is not only white people and video games. As a black girl that likes white guys, and has dated white men I had to sort of play “teacher” for, he isn’t malicious. And I know you specifically didn’t say that but after Hadrianna Hook or whatever her name is made that video everyone’s been dragging me for liking this ship that is significantly less problematic then every other ship. I also think it’s a good learning opportunity for young colored women (or just POC in general) to learn ITS OKAY TO DATE PEOPLE OUTSIDE OF YOUR RACE!!! Leshawna didn’t get with Harold because she didn’t wanna be with a lanky white guy but admits multiple times that he is her person. Total drama is too simple to get into it, but it’s such an important story to tell 😭 and unfortunately we won’t ever see it be told.

I really despise Gwuncan because it was all a toxic setup and the creators of Total Drama had confirmed that Duncan didn’t truly love Gwen. It was all deception and infidelity. It turns out that Gwen and Trent were originally planned to stay together but network executives didn’t want them to stay as a couple. Tom McGillis also prefers Gwent instead of Gwuncan. I also prefer Gwent because it had many attributes of true love.
I don't despise the couple, I despise how it was handled. It could've worked but they worked overtime to not make it work. I loved her with Trent but they messed that up too. Honestly you can tell that this was a forced relationship between Gwen and Duncan. Either way, I don't have a strong opinion about which couple is better. I just want the relationships to make sense. Thats why both of her relationships are on here. Both of them ended so unnecessarily and ultimately wasted our time as viewers. I do like hearing about the production side though. It gives more context to why things happened the way it did.
So basically, DuncanxGwen was another example of network executives interfering with and ruining the story. Why am I not surprised? For that couple specifically, network executives saw a punk delinquent guy and a goth gal and thought "these two belong together 'cause cliches". If that was their reactions to TrentxGwen, now I'm wondering what their reactions were to a possible GwenxGeoff shipping in the Total Drama Island pilot.
Off topic and a whole year late but I love your profile pic being Gwen cosplaying as Raven. It just *fits* so much. Like a mental puzzle piece finally being put in its place.
Personal opinion about Dave and sky, they had a huge waste potential I think. Let's be honest, total drama writers make them so dirty during season, real waste of one of the two couples of the season
I wasn't talking about Heather.. I said he cheated in the competition not cheated in the relationship. He threw challenges for Gwen and would cheat to help her win. However that backfired majorly on both of them. More so Gwen.
