      I’ve been riding western all of my life (first started when I was 3, it’s been 10 years), and I’m going to be trying English for the first time. Your account has helped me understand things faster than any other account I’ve seen on RUclips. Thank you!

    I am volunteering as a groomer for a equine therapy organization. It's been years since I've worked with horses. Your videos are the most helpful out of all the ones I've watched in learning specifics in how to tack up a horse. And your comments make me smile. Good job.

    Thanks for the video! I used to ride western about 6 years ago but had to stop riding due to school and sports, but now that I'm in college I'll have time to take lessons again! I'm going to take English so this helped me gain a bit of confidence for when I go to my first lesson :)

    Thank you for this :) have been away from horses for years, so I was a bit unsure on where/how to place the saddle and how tight the bridle pieces should be. Until now, the owner of the horse I share has helped me. This was extremely helpful and easy to understand. The perfect reminder I needed to have confidence next time I tack up the loan horse myself. Thank you 😊💖

    Riding for almost two years and your videos are of great help!
    About this one though, would be a bit of improvement (imo), if you had shown how tight is tight enough for girth. Otherwise, perfect, thank you very much.
    UPD: as for saddle pad… When I tack up, I have stirrups already full needed length, but sitting crossed on the saddle. And whenever I need a saddle flap up, I press it with a counter-side stirrup. Yay paperweight technology!

    Thank you for the wonderful video. I have always used a western saddled because that is what I learned on. I was 55 before I got my first horse... 🙂 I was wondering if I could go to a English saddle What is the difference in riding I consider myself still a beginner. Just that my western saddle is getting SO heavy for me to heft up on my horse. Thank you for any insight you can give.

    do bits hurt the horse? there is a big controversy about it and I don't know what to believe. Everyoen keeps saying it does so when I go to my lesson I feel guilty about putting the bit

    • @adrianmaxwe5134
      @adrianmaxwe5134 3 года назад

      No, ill break it down of what the bit does, so say your horse is trotting, its pulling their mouth back thats why you get told to loosen ur reigns, so its just like the dentist pulling ur cheeks back

    • @katehickcox5048
      @katehickcox5048 3 года назад

      I know. Makes me twitch. Only time I don't put it through is when the pad is either a little small or cut in such a way that the combination of that particular pad/girth/saddle will cause the billets to get pulled forward or backwards if run through.

    • @CarmellaAbel
      @CarmellaAbel  3 года назад +1

      That's why I didn't put the girth through the straps. I hate when that happens, especially on the saddle pad I'm using in this video.

  • @alexa3634

    I normally ride western, but the reason the saddle pad is so thin is because the saddle itself had more padding right?

    • @CarmellaAbel
      @CarmellaAbel  4 года назад

      Not necessarily; some people use thicker pads to protect their horse's back. You can also adjust the thickness of the pad depending on how well the saddle fits the horse. If the saddle is a little wide, you should use a thicker pad. Hope this helps!

      Equine Helper thank you!!!

    • @marenmclaughlin
      @marenmclaughlin 4 года назад

      It all depends, and also most people use with your pads and half pad for more comfort for the horse and also to make the saddle fit better if it’s not custom. And a lot of people use thicker saddle pads

    • @stephaniespalmer
      @stephaniespalmer 4 года назад

      Equine Helper what is a thicker pad? I’ve never seen an English “thick” pad. Western my horse rides in a 1” thick wool pad for trails and a 1/2” thick pad for barrels and poles but English pads all seem SUPER thin and I’m trying to learn because my ottb changes shape so much my western saddle doesn’t always fit correctly and I’d like to be able to just keep working him

    • @paperfoxka
      @paperfoxka 3 года назад +2

      @@stephaniespalmer yknow how you sometimes see fluff coming from under the saddle? Those are the edges of a thicker pad. It goes along with the pad shown in the video, you don't see it though be it's saddle shaped.
