you do not need to create snapshots separately if you are creating an AMI. When you create an AMI, AWS automatically creates snapshots of all the EBS volumes attached to the EC2 instance at the time the AMI is created. These snapshots are associated with the AMI and are used when you launch new instances from that AMI.
