Sarah, I just wanted to let you know that I found your channel in 2020, I used to play only the piano, and you really made me fall in love with the recorder and I learned so much from youl! I finally bought a soprano recorder a few months ago and I'm absolutely loving it. It's so much fun! I'm an adult beginner and I'm only using your videos to learn how to play. Thank you so much, Sarah. You're an amazing teacher and you inspired me to learn a new instrument. THANK YOU SO MUCH! You're the best ❤
Love your videos. It's so difficult to find anything about recorders and you show all kinds of things. You're also helping bring more people into the family, which I also love. Keep up the good work. I look forward to your future videos!
Thanks Sarah for your video. I can't wait sharing it with my third-graders tomorrow. Very clear and educational! Hopefully, they can learn the beauty of recorder through your channel.
Hi from TX! I was wondering what kind of music you wanted to play? I haven't decided yet, but I wonder what local traditional music over there sounds like.
Sarah, I am beginning to teach adults to play the recorder. I have just been asked to teach a child. The question I wish to ask, do I teach the child, the same way as an adult? I am not a trained teacher but I have passion and persistence
Another awesome video Sarah , every time I want to learn a new instrument I have to start from scratch , and it takes time to learn them all over again , but the pleasure of achievement once I get going is worth all the effort , love your work , blessings from Australia 💐
Smartly taught! I'm left-handed too but I've never had a problem with the hand position of the recorder (in fact, it helps me for some reason). And I didn't know you cover the 6th hole when playing F on G-fingering recorders.
That's cause the left hand holes are positioned slightly closer to the left hand and the right hand holes are positioned slightly closer to the right hand.
Thank you, Sarah. My music teacher bought me a recorder a few years ago i didn't use it when i saw your video then i got more interested in my recorder i am not a teenager yet but i can now play 12 to 13 songs . Thank you so much
Hello Sarah! Good morning how are you? Say, a week ago, I bought my very first wooden recorder, its a Hohner Soprano made of maple, but Ive been a bit afraid to touch it or even clean it. I was thinking of washing it in soap and water (bc of the pandemic concerns) in order to disinfect it, but thinking about it now, I am still confused on how i should disinfect it so I could start trying it out. What would you recommend for disinfecting / cleaning it? Thank you so much and I always tune in to your content :D i love your videos so much!!!
Hi there, congrats on your new recorder! I think you don't have to worry about disinfecting it - a lot of recorder makers have researched this, and the virus doesn't survive that long on wooden surfaces, so after a couple of days you are definitely safe. For peace of mind, you could disinfect the mouthpiece by wiping it with alcohol (high percentage alcohol from the chemist, or surgical spirit) on a cotton pad. And enjoy the music!
Question - Welcome to the soprano or the what? recorder. Thanks for the great instruction. Now to find the time to try it out. At least I know it’s here for later when time allows. Thanks again.
Hi, Sarah, I am studying this lesson and your first two recorder lessons. I don’t understand yet why I sometimes get a note that is an octave above what I want, especially when I play the low D and middle C. Can you refer me to someplace that you discuss this problem? Thank you.
Blow softer. Less likely it could be some improperly covered holes on the way down. But blowing less air through the instrument is always good advice. Trust me
Hello. I have a little question. When I play "over high" notes : C7 E7 f7 (I don't know how to do any others. Apart from f#7) 😜 is it normal for me to blow a little harder to get them? Perhaps this is linked to the limits of my recorder? And is it me or according to the recorder some fingerings are a little differents? Hmm, actually that's 2 questions🤣 thanks sarah
Hi - I’ve just bought a tenor recorder. I used to play it when I was 11 and didn’t have any trouble stretching to reach the holes and keys. But now, many many years later it’s really difficult. Are there any stretching exercises that would help? Thanks.
Hi Sarah, will it ruin my soprano recorder or my learning technique when i pull out the two joints ( 0,5 cm)to make the overall sound of the instrument lower and in that way more comfortable for my ears ? Many thanks for your channel!
As long as you can comfortably play it, then it should be fine. You can adjust the pitch just by adding or subtracting breath pressure, so moving the pieces slightly apart shouldn't be a big problem. You will probably just have to adjust your playing slightly
I'm in middle school an I got really into band in the summer before so I played recorder alot so my parents got me a 12 dollar one as an upgrade but I never new recorders could be played nicely I just used it as a gateway to clarinet now I'm learning recorder for real thank you
FYI - For all you bass clef and alto clef instrument players - in addition to being "a fully chromatic instrument with a wide range" - the soprano recorder plays in the treble clef. If you already play the concert flute, violin, clarinet, saxophone and/or trumpet, for example - no problem. But if you play, for example, the viola, cello and/or trombone, you'll have to learn a new music language: the treble clef. 👍🎼♫ 😊
Is there a video where you do this for the Alto Recorder? I'm having the worst time finding resources on the Alto. I got a Tenor but because of my very small (and arthritic) hands, I'm finding I have to concentrate more on the Alto (Soprano as well, but in all honestly the shrillness of the Soprano bothers my ears in the higher ranges). Alto just hits my 'sweet spot'. lol Any Alto resources you or anyone else can point me towards would be greatly appreciated. I love this channel! It's a great plethora of helpful info with a fun, approachable delivery. Thank you so much for everything you do. :)
Hi Sarah - love your teaching programs. Can I ask what type of recorder are you using to play 'MY heart shall go on' by Celine Dion? The sound you are producing is amazing. It's a soprano, but what type/make? Keep up the wonderful work. Nazlie
Note : G, A, B, C Me : Hmmm pretty simple, they're on parallel order Note : E, D, C Me : Still easy to understand Note : F Me : what ? Flat notes Me : Wait, wait, how they can be like that My piano brain hurts watching this 😅 The notes order with the holes are confusing. How do you memorize that ?
Hi Sarah, I have watched quite a lot of videos from your channel, very helpful. But I still have problems when trying High D, my recorder slips all the time, especially when change from B to High D. Is that because my recorder is plastic??? Anyone can help on it??
That's Sooo ßS!!! You must be tone deaf!!!😂😆😛😁😜😝🤣 I have a Yamaha Soprano Recorder in German sys & that fingering you mentioned (which also on most finger chart) SOUNDS OFF!!! I'm using that pattern exactly like hers!!! Seriously, COMPARE IT with a piano or any free digital piano apk!!!
Ahh I would recommend left hand at the top, as lots of recorders are geared that way and it will be easier later on. Try swapping over now while you still can! 😊

@@luckybarrel7829 interesting take.
The "German" F is wrong in the video (to low). It should be 01234.
@@sonjamg9489 Yeah, that's the one I know. It could be a thing with her recorder.
No, it's just an error. She has commented it in the description, too.

@@Team_Recorder does the type of alcohol matter or not really? I only have 99.9% IPA
@@Team_Recorder hello and thank you so much for the reply!!! I cant wait to try my new instrument :D
Did you see her video about cleaning them? It helped me not think I broke it when the little block under the mouthpiece popped out lol.

I’ve just started tenor and this has been soooooooo helpful!!! Thank you.
Which scale recorder is best for beginners
C, G, F, A minor, are all good!
You just have motivated me to start teaching recorder my 6 yo daughter. Thanks.

Hi miss sarah I want to ask how to play the lower ledger line in recorder

I have been playing the recorder for a long time and I need a refresher every once in a while.
I'm in 6 grade so finding new things is a challenge sometimes.

Is it normal my breath on the flute be bad after a recorder training?
awesome awesome video. I can hardly wait to brush up on my recorder playing.
Can't differentiate between c and d note
I actually used to own a recorder. I could play the notes but I could only play easy songs. I’m a multi instrumentalist myself.

This looks like a really hard instrument. Several fingers to do one note! Piano looks easy in comparison.
Not to forget a CD player. No skills needed. Only one finger to press the button...
Thank you for teaching me I have learnt so many things
For your next video can you please do tutorial video on how to play drunken sailor in E Minor?
I want to buy a recorder so would you say a Lolunut is a good brand to buy from? Also, would a $20 recorder work well?
Thank you i learned so much
I love this video thank you, going to memorize the notes, Im a previous flute player but its been years.

Just a tiny “whoopsie” moment… 😅
I got scammed 😂😂😂😂 i didnt know u could only play a few notes 😢 where the B!
Mistake: German low F is 01234, not 01234 6. I would suggest reuploading.
