- In this video we will look at a Stihl HS45 hedge trimmer that came in with the complaint that a tune up was just performed but the unit still won't start. Not everybody has the same idea of what a tune up is. #smallenginerepair

I have the same set of trimmer hs45. Ever since day one it has always made me feel like it bogs on power I have full throttle but it always seems to like it’s bogging down. I only use stihl motomix in my equipment takes all the guess work out of my issues. Thanks for the video
There is a T27 Screw on The Top of The Ramp for The Throttle Cable You Can Tighten Down For Removing The Extra Slack in The Throttle Cable 😀 Those Hedge Clippers are Notorious Also For Muffler Screen Plugging 😀 Nice Job on This Repair as Always Brother 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼😊
Thanks for the heads up but I think that screw fell out because I knew about it but didn't see it. Did you see it in the video? (cheap way of getting extra views) 🙂
@@TheGreasyShopRag Didn’t Notice I Just Know About It Cause I Work on a Ton of Stihl Equipment Since my Shop I Work at is a Stihl Dealer
Preventative maintenance is always the way to go, Scott. Old fuel and not keeping check on things doesn’t help. I always empty my fuel tank and run it out of fuel after every use. I have this exactly same unit as well! Plus with my chainsaw’s I clean the air filter and sharpen the chain then tag them and put it back on the shelf for next time. I have several saws, so I pick a different one most times.
Cheers 🍻
Thats a great plan and more people should follow it.
Great video. I enjoy seeing all the different models. They can be different, but have a lot of similarities. You have some good replies to read through too.
Lately people have been bringing in old junk. Even the Gals at the front counter commented on it. Not sure how much of it will make it here.
@@TheGreasyShopRag junk for high dollar, want it fixed for nothing. I really hope it changes soon. I have more fun and learning as I can pick stuff up.
@@steveriggenbach90 I'm glad to see people wanting to fix rather than throw away. Its just been a lot of low cost stuff lately.
Good repair Scott...! You've motavated me to go ahead and repair my wifes toothbrush! 🤣
I'm not sure how to respond to that but good luck with the repair!
Hi, can you do a video on changing the throttle cable and trigger on hc 45 hedge cutter there isn't one anywhere on you tube much appreciated over the pond in the UK really enjoy your vids keep it up very informative
@AlbertericHarrison If one finds it's way to my bench I'll be sure to capture that. Thanks for watching!
@TheGreasyShopRag thanks for the swift reply
I too sometimes have bad gas in me and the old pump don't pump like she used to
All I can do is shake my head and laugh!
Another good fix! I had fun watching the cover slide off. Have you ever seen the kill switch wires pinched in the handle? I tested mine. checked good, but i didnt care for the crimps in the wires.
Not sure if I've ever seen them pinched on this model.
Hey Scott...I use a small magnetic screwdriver to start those tiny un-flanged nuts. As long as everything is clean the magnet works well getting things started.
Sometimes I do something similar with a magnet on a stick. I need a small magnetic nut driver in 8mm.
@@TheGreasyShopRag Just an excuse to buy more tools!
@@Eric-n-TN Thats the way I roll!
Great fix!

Hello thanks for all the videos you post very informative, i was wondering is there a good reliable chainsaw you would recommend, and what would you say is a more reliable brand between echo stihl and Husqvarna?
All three are good brands. I don't know what your needs are but I always recommend that you find a good dealer first then talk to them about a saw that matches your needs and budget.
Have that unit 7 years, so far so good always run out fuel, and do minor stuff especially spark arrester.
That spark arrestor seems to be a common issue.
Little bit of comedy there good job from Central Florida
Good job sir!
Thanks for tuning in!
I have the same model trimmer that doesn’t start. I purchased a replacement aftermarket carburetor from Amazon but the adjustment screws were too big and the air cleaner wouldn’t fit back on it. I tried cleaning the original carburetor but still no luck. Where do you get your gasket kits. Maybe that’s what I need.
If its a zama or walbro carb we stock gasket kits from large distributors. For you the trick is knowing what carb you have and the model for looking up the kit(which you can do from the zama and walbro sites). If it not one of those brands then good luck.
Steel pole saw, when you raise it up to cuddle him it shuts off what do you think the reason is? Central Florida.
Maybe it doesn't like to be cuddled? Look in the fuel tank and see if the filter is jacked up...maybe not hanging down into the fuel when you're cuddling.
I will tell you what...carb cleaner in the eyes is an experience that I don't ever want again!!! I can take pain pretty good, but solvent in the eyes will wake up a whole new part pain you never thought was possible...LOL
@McCullochMac6 Yep. Not too fun for sure.
I had a Stihl hedge trimmer. Do not leave gas in it. Had problems with the green fuel line. Kept shrinking up, causing the tank to leak. It was an awful U shape where it sealed to the tank.
Usually those green lines hold up pretty decent but eventually they all go bad.
I have one of those and had it serviced 2 times at the Stihl Dealer, and have to say it was a dismal failure Stihl does not run, useless piece of machinery, will never buy a Stihl tool again. The Dealer even had a go at me for using old fuel after returning for the second service the day after the first service as it would not run, needless to say I stated that the fuel was replaced at the first service by the Dealer. Cocky young man thought he was the master repairer.
Happened in Australia QLD, wont say were, will not embarrass the Dealer, it will not help anyway. The only smoke that came out at my attempts to start it was from my ears.
Sounds like you need to find a new mechanic.
