Hello, I am Brazilian, I have been living in Slovakia for 3 months. I am self studying Slovak language and I find your videos very useful, I watch all of them more than once. You are a very good teacher, you provide clear communication and easy explanation. Thank you very much for your excellent work! I was wondering if you are planning some day to prepare a video lesson about accusative, nominative cases, etc? It's very confusing for me. :(
Hi, welcome to Slovakia! Thank you for your kind words, I'm so glad you find my videos useful :) So far I haven't been doing any videos about grammar, but thank you for your request. Do you have any more specific questions about the cases?
Odpusť mi! Tento komentár nebude v slovenčine. :) I just happened to find your channel because I wanted to hear some spoken Slovak. I've passively studied Slovak for maybe a year after more intensive, longer study of other Slavic languages, so I was curious what I could comprehend at this stage. True, you speak very clearly using everyday vocabulary (Ďakujem!), but I am _shocked_ at how easy Slovak is to understand! I'm not sure if it's the rhythmic rule or what, but it is much easier than Czech somehow. Very encouraging! I really liked learning a little Slovak geography with this one. :) Pokračuj!
Many people say that Slovak and Czech are almost the same. It is not true. Slovak grammar is very different. Slovak has a nice, regular grammar while Czech has a very excentric grammar, especially the 'soft' endings (hlavní), which are used without alterations in many cases. Slovak has "hlavná, hlavnej, hlavnú, hlavnou, hlavné", which helps you to identify the case, as it also follows the same pattern like in Polish, Serbian, Russian. Also, Czech has non-typical 'e' endings for female nouns and pronouns (moje, ulice), while Slovak has the standard Slavic 'a' ending: moja, ulica. Also, Slovak is known for its central position among other Slavic languages, which means that almost everybody is able to understand it: the Poles, the Ukrainians, the Serbs and of course the Czechs. It also has a slower typical way of speaking than Czech. It is a very beautiful language. Pre mňa je len problem, že aj keď všetko dobre rozumiem, nevedel by som napísať po slovensky zložitejší text bez chýb najmä poľských alebo českých vplyvov.
@@wkostowski I hear you 100%. Czech made me feel like I almost needed to learn the case paradigms all over again (to say nothing of Czech syntax), but Slovak turned out to be much more familiar to me through Polish. I didn't know Slovak was known for being so intelligible, but I might have studied it sooner if I had, because it's really cool! I mean, my first thought when I encountered Slovak was, "Wow, the vowels are all weird," and yet it's still clear when you hear it. I studied the neighboring languages first and had no expectations about Slovak, so it was cool coming to these videos and kind of discovering that for myself. Język to cudowny dar. :) Well, since we are talking about comparing languages, check out Ecolinguist's channel if you haven't. He basically does live intelligibility tests and it's super interesting! Not much Slovak representation, though.
