      Being British: Joel & Lia
This is a question I got from watching another video you guys did
Could you guys do this for gas prices in the UK if you do I promise I will subscribe and watch every video you make, I just found you guys yesterday and love your videos so far.
      Price of gas in America,
If it takes you $50 to fill your car with gas, working a normal job here ($8-$10 an hour) that 5-7 hours working to fill your tank, at $2.00 a gallon (a cheep CHEEP price) that's only 4-5 gallons per hour of work, if work is 30 miles away, that's an hour's worth of work, just to pay for the gas to get to work another hour to get home, that means only 6 of your 8 hours of work are you actually making money, so you literally have to work an ENTIRE DAY just to fill your car one time. I would KILL to see a comparison like this with gas prices from around the world.

Hello Joel & Lia! Brazilian here, from São Paulo. Let me answer your questions...
1 - Brazilian women are of all kinds, it´s just that our media really reinforces some stereotypes. Still, Brazilian women tend to be very careful about their looks and health so... yeah... they are mostly beautiful!
2 - Brazilian is not really a safe country. There´s not big natural disasters but street crime is a huge problem in Brazil and everyone should be careful when walking in certain areas in our big cities. Still, there are some rather safe areas for tourists
3 - Brazilians tend to be accurate with business/formal timekeeping but really loose with informal/social timekeeping. That´s due to the laid back nature of Brazilians. It´s unpolite to be not on time on business meetings but in informal meetings people won´t be upset.
4 - Brazilian massage? Who knows? Most Brazilians don´t even have massage regularly.
5 - The Amazon jungle is very far from the biggest metropolitan areas.. air fares there are not cheap so not many Brazilians visit it regularly. Still, it´s such a nice region to explore. Definetely work check out.
6 - Definetely NO! Samba is typical of the Southeast region. In other parts of the country there are different traditional rhythms like forró, sertanejo, lambada, frevo etc. each one with different kinds of step.
7 - Brazilians only speak Portuguese and, outside of São Paulo or Rio de Janeiro, very few people speak English.
8 - The OK sign is considered offensive in Brazil. You should not never do it. Instead, do the thumbs up sign.

Hi, I am Brazilian from the state of Minas Gerais (Southeast) and I live in Manchester. Here are my answers for you:
    1. Beautiful women?
Yes, they are, but we have a lot of nationalities that we descend since we have only 518 years old, there is not a pattern in terms of appearance, we are all mixed.
    2. Is it dangerous?
Yes, but it depends where you will stay and go. If you are going to Brazil, you will probably look some guides to see where are the best places to be, if you do that, you can go without worries.
    3. Are you always late?
Yes, we are. In terms of work and doctor appointments we try to stay on time, but for social events, we do not care. It is an all-night party so anyone can come whenever they want. xD
    4. Are you laid back?
People living in the big cities not, but in the small one yes.
    5. Brazilian massage?
This term does not exist in Brazil, but we have massages, so... Maybe they are not "Brazilian" in Brazil. The same of the Brazilian Wax, in Brazil it is just a wax and it is a common thing.
    6. Rainforest vacation?
I lived 30 years in Brazil and I have not gone there. Brazil is huge and has beautiful landscapes in the entire territory, so people go to different places. From all Brazilians I met one has gone there. (Search for Brazilian Landscapes on google, you will like it)
    7. Can you samba?
No, Samba is more popular in Rio and we have many different kinds of music genre around the country.
    8. Hate the Spanish stereotype?
We don't care about it, but we like to explain what we are as a nation and that we speak Portuguese.
    9. How many languages?
The official language is Portuguese but we learn at a basic level at school also English and sometimes Spanish. But we also have cities and regions that speak other languages due to other colonizations such as Japanese, German, Italian, etc.
    10. Are you offended by using the OK sign?
No, we aren't, but do not use as an OK sign as well. In the past this was something like "fuck you" but the new generations do not use that anymore. The "V" sign that British get offended in Brazil only means number two.

British time is heavily influenced by industrial times (more punctual and mechanical than anything) whereas Brazilian time is considerably influenced by farm and ranch time (markedly more loose and subject to natural unpredictability). This is not to say there isn't something of both times within each culture, it's just that Britain has historically (as for the last 200 years) been a industrial powerhouse whilst Brazil only began to move in that direction in the 30s. Also, from 1950s onwards we moved from being a majority rural population to a majority city-dwellers population and it takes time to change.
What I think is that in Brazil there IS, indeed, a tolerance for delays but it's not the majority of the population that arrive late to appointments. Things might start a little later than expected only to facilitate the life of those who are late for a good reason (let's say the bus was stuck in traffic etc.).

We have a very diverse genetic pool here in Brazil. People are usually mixed and there can be individuals with combinations of skin, body shape, eye color, hair texture and facial features that usually you guys won't see in the UK. Brazil is dangerous, but you guys have to consider that we have been living under this condition for a while, so for us it's clear how to be safe, and there are lots of tips on that on the Internet, right next to the ones related to the beautiful things you guys will find here; plus: we love making friends with tourists from foreign countries and helping them around. Gotta say that most crimes are small ones like mugging, where the bad guys usually are interested in small material things like phones and credit cards (they don't usually pick it from your pocket, like they do in Europe - usually they threat you and make you give it to them, then they run away with it). We don't live in a culture where time is that important so if you need us to deal with that, being specific won't help it, you have to put some pressure on us (like calling and texting us repeatedly to make sure we'll not be late). It's interesting how, as kids, we Brazilians usually know that it's better not to be late, but adults wil tell us that having punctuality means we'll be the one waiting. We are very relaxed in Brazil; although I guess we're still more hot blooded than you guys from the UK. I never met anyone that has been to the Rainforest and probably I'm not interested myself in going there - it's full of dangerous animals and it is located a little far in the country (most Brazilians live near the coast). Although Samba is something very Brazilian, I'm from the northeast and Samba is something we usually associate with the southeastern states like Rio (meaning you're not gonna find a lot of fans of Samba outside of that region). We don't speak Spanish in Brazil, although we do like to believe we can speak it (it just sounds so similar to Portuguese sometimes). Also: Portuguese is not a dialect of Spanish. Our English level is usually bad, although professionally it makes a big difference for us to speak it even at an intermediate level, so there's a lot of us studying it. Most Brazilians speak only Portuguese. The OK sign made with your fingers in a circle-ish shape means "hole" for us (and it can look highly sexual).

Fabricio, your answer about timing explains a lot, lol! @Joel&Lia, in the border between Brazil and Uruguay we have a variety called Portuñol, which is a mixture of Spanish and Portuguese. They are both different languages of course, but derived from Latin which makes them sister languages and we can understand each other quite well if we speak slowly.

Hi! I'm brazilian and I live in the Northeast region of Brazil.
    1. Beautiful women?
I think people in Brazil, women and men, are really worried about their body appearance, but most of them are not really careful about their health or how they feed, if they feed well. However, women receive heavier pressure from the society to look good and to be "beautiful".
    2. Is it dangerous?
In the whole aspect, I think yes, it is. But there are areas that are safier then others, just like Lia said. It's a really crontrastive scenario. The social inequality in Brazil is so expressive that in the big cities you can feel safe in some neighbourhoods and not in the others. It's a very complex aspect of the brazilian society.
    3. Are you always late?
Yes, we are. And I hate this! Not all brazilians are late of course. But generally speaking we are always late. It's very common for you to set an appointment and people arrive one hour late, or even more!
    4. Are you laid back?
I don't think we are laid back, especially if we're talking about big cities. There are people from some places or ethnicities that are stereotyped as laid back, but I think it's not true.
    5. Brazilian massage?
I don't know nothing about that. I don't think ever existed a "brazilian massage" or such a technique or that people here are good at massaging.
    6. Rainforest vacation?
Nope, that's not true at all. Brazil has several ecosystems, so we have plenty of places to go and I don't think the rainforest has a special role on this.
    7. Can you samba?
Nope. Samba is a type of dance and a music genre common in Rio de Janeiro, but, again, we have several traditional dances and types of music, even inside Rio, so we can see various forms of body language all around the country. And no, we don't learn how to dance at school.
    8. Hate the spanish stereotype?
I don't care about it, but I think it's a really common mistake.
    9. How many languages?
Generally speaking, we only speak portuguese. But we have many brazilian languages, such as the brazilian sign language (called Libras), several indigenous languages and also other european languages, such as german and italian, these of course are used in the small communities. The Libras is spread all over the country. The indigenous languages are spoken over certain regions, mostly at the nothern region. Some more educated layers of the society can speak english or other languages, such as spanish and french.
    10. Are you offended with the OK sign?
I'm not. I don't think it's really offensive, but for some people it can mean anus or something like "fuck you". But it's not used just like de OK sign, it's different, I think we show the other side of the hand while performing the gesture.

1 - Noooooo! Brazilian woman are really different from one another - because of the mixture(like I'm part Itallian, part espanish, part german, part portuguese and part japanese)
2 - Depending of the city where you go, is kind of dangerous, but is basically like America in most areas
3 - Well, yes, kind of, my family is always late for everything, but some of my friends are always in time so it's pretty much a stereo - Althought if you have a party that is going to be at 7 p.m. people only get there at 9 p.m. soooooo, yes we are late
4 - WE DO NOT LAID BACK!!! Actually most of the population in Brazil are super stressed - Brazil is the most depressed country in America Latina and 5,8% of the brazilian people sufer with anxiety.
5 - Brazilian massage... I'm not going to answer that one...
6 - Rainforest Vacation, I don't even know what that is (going to google that, wait a minute)
Huehuahsuheuahdisnd8(that is a laught) NOOOOOO we do not have such thing in here, like have you seen how big this country is? I have never even left São Paulo(the state, not the city)
7 - About samba... we do not learn that in school hahahahaha, IM SOO DEAD WITH THAT PHRASE 😂😂😂 OMG!!!
In my case I don't samba, and most of my friends don't samba as well (honestly I don't like going out in Carnaval, sooooo) - Totally stereo!
8 - We hate, HATE, the spanish stereotype, DUDE I SPEAK PORTUGUESE AAAAAAAAH(angry scream lol)
9 - We learn at school portuguese(of course), spanish and english(is basically the most important one in here)
In some tests that we do to get in Colege/University is an obligation to know spanish or english, like you have to answer questions in either language(you can choose one of them)
10 - In Brazil, the 'OK' sign literally means "Go f*ck yourself", its like showing the middle finger
11 - WE LOVE COFFEE SO MUCH! Like is always coffee time
    ...x...
I just want to share a few places in Brazil that really breaks the Brazil Stereo(Beach, Sun, Samba etc)
    1) Parque dos Lençois Maranhenses - Maranhão(MA)
    2) Bairro da Liberdade - São Paulo(SP)
    3) São Joaquim - Santa Catarina(SC)
    4) Campos do Jordão - São Paulo(SP)
    5) Pomerode - Santa Catarina(SC)
[ I would also google "Pernambuco frevo" just because is really beautiful - frevo is a dance ]

As I'm brazilian, I loved your video.
Brazil is very big, so you just can't analyze the country by only one point of view. I'm from the south and even though we have some similarities our culture and lifestyle are a way different from the rest of the country. For instance, our people are less tanned because we don't live in the tropical region and we have a strong german and italian ancestry. Regarding some stereotypes, a few people can speak foreign languages, the amazon is beautiful but it's not a top destination for most brazilians (the preference is the beaches); maybe the "good bodies" stereotype is because of our huge miscigenation which make our looking unique; and yes, most of us are late for appointments unfortunately hahaha. Love you guys, thank you so much for commenting about my country.
I also have a suggestion that I'd like to see from you: I've noticed that most of the british singers when they record their songs they make an american accent to become more famous. What is your opinion about that?

We HATE the "Spanish" stereotype hahahaha, we speak Portuguese. Me and my brazilian friends don't like to be called "latinos" too, and most of us can't dance samba; "forró" it's the most typical dance here in my part of the country (The Northeast Region). Regarding the "Rainforest", for most of us is just a distant part of the country and we just hear about it; Brazil is one of the biggest countries in the world, so it's common that some people never visit other parts of the country. We don't care much about punctuality, this is true haha, and I personally think that we are not "laid back", in fact, specially in the most populous cities, people are very stressed.
Anyway, Im so happy that you talked about our country, and I forgive Lia for the Spanish stereotype hahahahah LOVE YOU GUYS, WARM KISSES FROM BRAZIL S2

I'm brazilian and some places are very dangerous to visit during the night or when is empty, especially in big cities like São Paulo or Rio de Janeiro. If you intend for example to walk and not use a car .By the way ,women are so beautiful as many other places (americans ,british ,germans, etc)
Almost everything happens on sharp ,but people usually be late for appointments with private meetings(friends so...). Can I recomend you to visit the state of Santa Catarina that we know like saint and wordeful Santa Catarina ,look the beautiful nature preservation on google ,stay to relax ,eat and drink for a week on the resort Costão do Santinho .We have samba only in carnival ,however you can listen this type of music all the year during your visit to Rio de Janeiro and don't go to shanty town alone. It's normal in Brazil to speak english ,everyone knows it ,maily the entrepreunors as well as businessman ,tourists guides.

Amazonia is far from most of the people and we don't usually go there. You aren't the first people asking that, so please spread it! I won't lie to you, I live in Rio de Janeiro and yes, it's dangerous, but nothing you can't handle. You just need to be conscious to not walk with your phones and cameras on the hands. Loads of tourists come here and love the city (and the country), if something happen with you, it will be a casuallity (that can happen everywhere in the world). I believe the hot weather get us stressed. You can't imagine how we suffer when the temperature is more than 35°C (I'm talking about Rio de Janeiro). But if you're at the beach or in a pool, laid back lifestyle. Miga sua loka, WE DON'T SPEAK SPANISH! (Although it's way easier for us to learn it!) Portuguese it's our official language, but English has been so widespread here that it isn't a differential anymore, most of the people speak it or study it. LOVE YOU GUYS ❤️ Come visit us to get a tan!

Hi, Joel and Lia! My family loved Rio de Janeiro, which was the only part of Brazil we ever knew. My father was in the US Navy for half of WWII (I'll be 75 on Winston Churchill's BD) and our "hardship tour" was 36 months in Rio from September-1947 to September-1950. "Hardship” means that a military family lives in another country away from family, friends, favorite locations, grocery stores, etc. For several months Dad trained in classical Portuguese at the Washington Language Center in in Arlington, Virginia. It was three months before my fourth BD and my sister had just turned a year old. (Dad never saw or met the Emperor in order to use his “Classical” Portuguese.)
Mum was extremely excited due to the stunning beauty of Rio. She was overwhelmed with having two small children in a new country with no way to communicate except through sign-language, of a sort. At that time, the city was a small town laid out on a pristine bay. We lived in a “towering” seven-storey apartment building - one of the tallest at that time - three blocks from Copacabana Beach. Marble seemed to cover most building surfaces and all sidewalks.
US Navy personnel were on orders to hire helpers from people in the city because Americans were making far more per month in that economy than the Brazilians and we were to give back by providing jobs. So we did and were very happy to do so. These were day jobs and people were trained to do only one thing, such as cooking or childcare or laundry. We had two regular helpers; a third who came twice a week to help with the laundry.
Because of this daily support inside our apartment, we began learning the language rapidly. Shopping was done outside at the street market and in 1947, the people of Rio loved Americans. They were extremely patient and kind in teaching Mum via her pointing at a fruit, vegetable, blouse, etc. We spoke quite well in three months and like natives in another year, plus we learned how to Samba like miniature pros. Before we left, we had gain another sister and a brother; English was their second language. It was easier for us to primarily speak Portuguese at home. In our next location we continued to speak Portuguese within our family and when we four were playing. If I want to see the Rio of that time, I have to watch “Notorious” with Cary Grant and Ingrid Bergman, where several scenes include gorgeous photography of the mid-1940s. Cheers! : )

Thanks, Joel and Lia. It was a wonderful experience. We had to return to America by ocean liner that took two weeks. Plus, communication to Europe, when dad was stationed there for a year in the early 10502, meant making an overseas phone call by appointment. Now, the world seems very small with rapid, fairly inexpensive air transportation and communication is instantaneous with sat phones or Skype-type contacts. Google Earth has been a huge means of shrinking our sense of our planet because we can find almost anyplace anytime.
I'm very grateful and pleased for having experienced all the changes in recent history as they have occurred and enjoy trying new electronics for games and research. For all the scary things that may happen, it's still a fascinating time to live and the way that you two reach out in your curiosity is wonderful. Keep that excellent gift of asking questions, along with your spontaneous humor and innate kindness! It is a delight.

1 - Not all of us have an advanced body, but some have really advanced bodies for example I have a friend who is 13 years old but seems to be about 17 years old
2 - I think it will depend on the place of Brazil, but I think that here where I live it is very passive
3 - It depends on the commitment, if it is work or school we are punctual but if it is a party we just arrive when we want
4 - It depends on the size of the city you are in.
5 - It's the first time I hear about it lol, my aunt was a massage therapist (now she's a cook)
6 - I never went there, I would like to go one day when I have more time, for now I only know about it on television
7 - I actually like it haha, it’s normal to confuse they are a bit similar, but I also know how to speak Spanish so I don’t complain because it’s true that I know how to speak Spanish Lol
8 - Good at school we learn English so most know only 2 languages counting on Portuguese but when we are interested in other languages we try to learn, Braleiro is very curious lol
9 - Yes, it is an insult but if you have a lot of intimacy with someone, it is not that rude, the friendships here are usually brute lol
    Yes I am brazilian

Yaaay!!! I've been waiting for this video! Well, let me answer some questions: Brazil is not the safest country in the world but it's not that dangerous, where I live we face some problems like robberies and drug trafficking. About be on time, ok... We are not that good at it (lol), but I'm used to get earlier than my friends when we have a meeting. I don't think most of us are laid back, cuz we are always in a hurry, mainly in capital cities like São Paulo, Salvador (my city), etc. I'm so bad at dancing, so I don't even know to do it, believe me! And we have only one oficial language: Portuguese, but in the South of Brazil there are some descendant of immigrants from different nacionalities like Japanese, Germany, Italian, Chinese... And a lot of people think that we speak Spanish, but we don't! Despite that, we can understand Spanish well, there are a great similarity! Thank you guys for this video, I really loved it! Hugs from Brazil!

Yes!!! We HATE the Spanish stereotype.
    We speak Portuguese.
Regarding languages, we learn Portuguese, English and Spanish in school. However, public education is not the best here, and even in private schools language classes are not very good.
As a majority of the people here are not well off, they just learn what they can and try to work with that.
People who have more money usually go to private language schools to study a foreign language.
It really depends on your financial situation (although we always have cases of very poor people who found a way to learn many different languages through years of dedication).
Since Spanish and Portuguese are similiar enough, many people say they speak “Portunhol” - which is a pun similar to Spanglish, but with Portuguese instead of English.
Nevertheless, few people are advanced English speakers, most of them are closer to an A2 level, which is better than not knowing anything, but very bad if you have to talk to natives.
What about England? How many languages do people speak?
Because I’ve been told that in America it’s very rare for people to speak a language other than English.

    • @ericaaguilar9300
      @ericaaguilar9300 6 лет назад +4

Luciana Artusi Ya, I'd say it's not the norm for an American to speak two languages. But a ton of us do speak English & Spanish!!

    • @mrpeacemm

It's not that our language classes are not good, it's a cultural thing, it's not in our culture speaking more than one language.

      M. A. True. Although it is encouraged to be bilingual in English/Spanish. A lot of employers look for that & some require it. Especially in the states around Mexico, where we have a lot of immigration (Texas, California etc).

    • @LucianaArtusiBaltoswki
      @LucianaArtusiBaltoswki 6 лет назад +1

      M. A. I would have to disagree with that. I am a private teacher and I’ve taught in schools previously, so I can say for a fact that the quality of our teachers has decreased a lot. What’s more, many schools are more focused on making money than in actually making students truly learn, for instance, they’d rather keep a student who should have failed a year by letting him/her move on to the next level than to ask this student to take the course again because of the fear that they might drop out and stop paying the monthly fee.
I’m not complete disregarding your point, but I reckon there’s more to this than meets the eye.

    • @LucianaArtusiBaltoswki
      @LucianaArtusiBaltoswki 6 лет назад +3

      M. A. Concordo absolutamente com você. Eu acredito que tenha me expressado mal no primeiro comentário. Mas é isso, se você não se esforça, não aprende. Independente de onde estudou. E lá em cima quis dizer que nem em escolas públicas nem em particulares as aulas de inglês são muito boas. É claro que há excessões, mas, no geral, é preciso ir além para aprender de fato.

Hi, Joel and Lia. I love this video. It's so amusing to hear you talk about these things because I know less about Brazil than you do.
I love these "Questions for" videos. I was wondering if you could do follow-up videos for all of them. For instance, in around a year from today you could do "Things we've learned about Brazil and questions we still have". And you could do the same kind of follow-up for your other "Questions for" videos.
There are so many countries I'd like to hear you talk about. Scotland for one. I know Scotland is part of the UK, but how much do the two of you know about Scotland?
And I'd like to hear you talk about Ireland, Japan, New Zealand.

    1. Yep, we brazilian gals are all gorgeous, thank you! LOL, jk
    2. It depends. Rio de Janeiro, for instance, is very accurately portrayed as a dangerous state, it deserves the reputation =( (which is a shame, bc Rio is gorgeous and the local culture is awesome). I'm from Brasília, the capital, much less dangerous, but we still have quite a bit of crime, unfortunately.
    3. Yes, the crushing majority of brazilians suck at being punctual, to my eternal frustration... I like being on time for stuff, but I generally have to wait at least half an hour for people to show up to every little thing -- even for work related stuff, a lot of people tend to be quite "flexible" with their time (the weather thing makes a lot of sense, Joel).
    4. I guess a good portion of us can be considered laid back... where I live, though, people can be very fussy and uptight... but, yeah, most people tend to be super casual about pretty much anything.
    5. Brazilian massage? I wish that was a thing, lol.
    6. Brazil is a huge country, so it's not actually easy to just hop into a bus or plane and visit another state (which would also be quite expensive)... I guess most brazilians will agree with me that just visiting the rainforest for a vacation is not a common thing. Also, I think most people would prefer to go to states where you can enjoy the beach. We have beautiful beaches here.
    7. LOL, no. Most brazilians do love dancing, though. (We do not get taught Samba in school, LOL... although... there were times during Elementary that teachers would make us dance samba for cultural festivals and stuff... *cringes*).
    8. We do hate the Spanish stereotype, lol.
    9. Just Portuguese. English and/or Spanish are compulsory in schools, but most people can't really be considered bilingual.
    10. At least where I'm from, people don't even use that gesture, lol. But, yeah, as some people already commented, it means "asshole".
    11. Brazilians do love coffee, and it's almost as big an exportation product here as it is in Colombia. (If I'm not mistaken, Brazil is the biggest producer of coffee in the world.)
Great video btw, guys! Love from Brazil!!

There are some strange things as well, Brazilians eat pizza with fork and knife (There's also chocolate pizza), eating with your bare hands is considered dirty so they eat almost every fast food with napkins, another common thing that shocks the foreigners is the size of the bikinis because those are way smaller compared to the rest of the world.

1- Brazilians are a mixture of races so we do have a lot of beautiful people in here
2- Brazil is a safe place but there are some cites there are not safe, like Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo, and those are usually the places that people from other countries go when them came to Brazil, but we have SO many amazing cities to visit that you guys don't know about, like the capital Brasilia.
3-we are only late to go parties or something like that.
4- most of Brazilian never have been to the rainforest before, that's just a stereotype, and some people even think that we live in the florets and not in normal cities.
5-WE SPEAK PORTUGUESE, it's quite offensive when people say that we spark Spanish or even think that is almost the same thing, it's like saying that English is the same thing as German.
6- most people here don't dance samba, and more than half of Brazilians don't even like carnaval.
7- most people here only speaks one language, but we have a lot of language schools here, I can speak, besides Portuguese,English and Spanish.
Well I think that's all, love the video❤️

Hey! I’m Gabi! I’m brazilian and I loved your video! Here’s my opinion on your questions:
    1. I think we are as beautiful to you as you guys are to us. We are different, we have different looks, just like tou guys. Abd that becomes exotic!
    2. Some places in Brazil are very dangerous, I’ve never lived anywhere else but in Rio and I can tell it’s kind of tense in some areas, not all. Still, things sounds worse when you’re far away just hearing about the danger here.
    3. We’re definitely late, specially for parties and among friends. Not so much for appointment and with people we are not close with.
    4. We have a laid back lifestyle, it’s cool and less stressfull but on the other hand, we are not the great economic potency we could be.
    5. Massages here are not called brazilian (hahaha) I think that’s the kind of topic we can hear from you better that know. Massages here are called by their purpose, for exemple, Lymphatic drainage, or “measure reducer,” if it makes any sense...
    6. I have never been to the Amazônia and I think people here are not interested in forests at all. The big hit here is the beach, which you are very welcome to come visit! Tip: look up Arraial do Cabo, where I live. It’s beautiful concerning beaches!
    7. Coffee here is my favorite thing! I lived in America for a year and I suffered without my cooffee.
    8. A lot of people can dance but not everyone can samba. That’s probably a stereotype.
    9. Yea, we speak Portuguese, a little different from the one in Portugal. About the Spanish (hahaha) we get that a lot😂 Some people can speak English, but it’s still a third language here.
    10. The OK sign is still the ok sign here too, and we get the meaning mainly by the context in wich it’s used. The ugly sign is a little different and it means F*** you ot F*** off 😅
    11. Most of us love coffee. I know I do!!
A huge hug for you guys in beautiful England that I hope to get to visit someday! 🥰

Beautiful women: yes, Brazil has a lot of beautiful women and the best part is that we have diversity. Is it dangerous?: well, it’s more dangerous than some countries but it’s not thaaaaaat much. We have safer areas than others but you don’t have to be scared to come here lmao. Are always late: when it comes to important appointments, we try to be the earliest possible, but about social events we don’t care about it because we usually make all-nighter parties and etc, so people come when they want. laid back: we know when to have fun and when to be serious. but in general we like to be more relaxed to deal with the situations in the best way possible. amazon forest: hmm definitely no, it’s such a huge forest and it’s not that easy to visit. at least for people who doesn’t live in the north (region where amazon is located). samba: samba is a type of dance and not all brazilians know how to dance it because it’s very hard. there are people who are professional at this, but no, not all of us know how to samba. spanish stereotype and languages: yes, we hate when people think we speak spanish. and we have only one official language: portuguese. but we learn basic english at school and sometimes spanish. OK sing is offensive: in the old times, the ok sign, for us, would literally mean your ass hole lmao, but nowadays we actually don’t care about it.

  • @depoant
    @depoant 6 лет назад +6

1- Not really, but our current generation is a bit obsessed with having the "perfect body".
2 - Other than floods in some specific areas, no natural disasters here, Brazil has safe and unsafe areas, sadly some safe areas are turning unsafe lately.
3 - Yep, we are, if you want to meet a brazilian at 3:00pm say you'll be waiting him/her 2:40pm, that way he will turn up 3:00pm, It depends on the situation, we can go from laid back to making a scene very quickly.
4 - Most cities in the north are great spots to tour the amazon forest, but we usualy prefer to travel to other places, sadly we don't value it as much as people from other countrys do.
5 - This is our version of "all english like tea?", the answer is the same =D
6 - Generation Z and millennials from middle class and above , know at least basic english (A small percentage of the population)
7 - Lia is right about that one
And because I'm a good Brazilian I'll finish saying "sorry for my bad english" because we feel that it's a mortal offence to speak with someone in their native language and not being 100% good at it, except when people try to speak portuguese with us and have difficulty with it, than we think it's cute and try to help as best as we can

    4. It depends where you go
    5. Actually, yes it is really good
    6. I didn't. I lived too far away from it but I guess people could go.
    7. We all can dance a bit, its in our blood, but there is some people who are really good
    8. Yes. I hate that stereotype.
    9. I speak 3. But usually people only speak portuguese

    Brazillian here :
    1) Yes, there are gyms everywhere here, and the girls want to go with the "basics" (fit, on shape haha) on the beaches, and the standarts sometimes are high
    2) Yes it is on overral, the BUT there are safer areas, and dangerous ones, there are safe behaviours and some that will put you on trouble , and most deaths are related to drug trafficking . Here is a map of murder rate per 100k residents (2009 , but the number today are a little shorter and decreasing very slowly):
    pt.wikipedia.org/wiki/Viol%C3%AAncia_no_Brasil#/media/Ficheiro:Mapa_de_homic%C3%ADdios_do_brasil_por_municipio.jpg
    3) IT dependes ... If it is a work or job apointment, we are on timing, and on a hurry, if it is a social thing, than we are not strict
    4) We are laid back, expect if the work demands the other way, and more specially if you are on São Paulo, there plp are not so laid back
    5) Yes we are good on massage, I AM ! hehe And I WOULD LOVE TO PUT MY HANDS ON YOUR BODY ! BTW, a good massage (the one that you are talking about) are done with oil, nude (both), after sex, for special plp, so if you are interested, when coming here msg me kkk, you are handsome btw. (and no, we dont give a fuck about being gay, bi (me), or straight) The reason behind this is a believing that the massage is a hard thing to do, so if you do to someone, it means that you like and care or want to at least give a good moment, the second is that a good lover is good on massage, and than plp that want to be seen as good lovers or good sex partners likes to do massage, i allways do or receive if the situation asks
    6) Rainforest : No, it is damn far, dificult to go, and what are we going to do there ? BTW, there is an even more dense forest here, near coast, it is called Atlantic Forest, it is that forest that you see on Rio, but it is specially even more dense, and more beautifull, remember Amazon Forest is in northwest, far, Atlantic Forest is near the coast, on São Paulo, Rio etc, both are rainforests, both are jungles.
    7) Samba : NO ! NO ! NO! Take care with this samba thing ! This is a stereotype, some with laught at you, some might get offended, and generally speaking is a flag: I am a gringo (foreigner) i know nothing and need help . hehe
    8) Samba 2: That is salsa !
    9) POR-TU-GUE-SE ! A brazillian can understand spanish, and even be understandable to spanish speaking person, but this one cannot understand portuguese. Remember Portugal speaks modern portuguese, we speaks a more ancient portuguese form.
    10) 1 to 2 languages: English is the second one for obvious reasons
11 The OK sign, well let me clarify this, it is the position of your hand, using the same sign, it can be ok or it can be f.... you, or go f.... yourself, the circle is the asshole, and if you point to the circle with the other hand indicator, means that you really mean F... you, or you want be fucked, literaly, you are asking for sex haha, if you make the ok , straight up,. with your pinky facing the other person, cand be ok, if you make the sign with your hand on horizontal and/or your pinky facing you, damn is f.... you most blunt form. So in doubt just thumbs up, OK? It never fails hehe
    12) When coming here , and going on beaches remember 2 words: fit and skin

I’ve never even been to the north of Brazil which is where the Amazon is. I’m pretty sure it’s not a thing hahahah
I mean, people visit there, but I’d say it’s more common to go to cities like Salvador and Fortaleza, Maceió,... or cities in the south/south east.

As a Brasilian girl, I would say Brazilian women are passionate about the body, there is a natural beauty shape. Unfortunately, in the bigs cities, you have to be careful with your belongs, of course, you can enjoy the beautiful places that there are but stay tur .n.Indeed the most part of Brasilian never will be on time (I hate it). Hahahaha No Amazonas (rainforest) is not a holiday destination, it's not popular Although I know that two friends that live abroad, have visited there. Samba is one of the traditional types of dance, but Brazil is a huge country then each region there is your own dance, Sama is more popular in Sao Paulo Rio de Janeiro. , Finally, we hate when someone starts so to speak in Spanish because we speak Portugues lol. in most school we have an basic knowledge about English or Spanish language. So it is all. Love you guys. I learn a lot with you

I subscribed to this channel 2 weeks ago to practice the listening to British Accent, i'm moving to Newcastle later this year!! :D
    1) Not every girl ofc, but most of 'em are beautiful. ----- 2) Most places on big cities are dangerous, but 99% of tourist attractions are safe, can't say that for Rio, cuz it can be dangerous anywhere. ----- 3)not everyone ofc, but in Sao Paulo and Rio the traffic is crazy, theres a joke here that we dont measure distance by KM or Miles, we say "its 40mins with traffic" or something. ----- 4)I think most ppl yes hahah. ----- 5)Never tried it, but heard its good. ----- 6)I know ppl who go to Amazonia to Fish, but its not a lot of ppl who goes there for vacation, BR's usually go to northeast beaches. ----- 7)The spanish stereotype doesnt bother me, i think its fun when we BR's try to speak Spanish, its something called Portunhol(Portuguese+Espanhol - Portnish). ----- 8)BR Portuguese is Native, we learn basic English in School but most ppl doesnt speak a 2nd language. ----- 9)Maybe its something for some regions of Brazil, in Sao Paulo it means OK, no problems with that.

I just found your channel! You two are so much fun. I am a Grandma (old-61) but I love your sense of humor & sarcasm. I am an American from Northern California, but my favorite sweet grandma (Freda Hopper) immigrated from the UK in her early 20's along with my great grandparents ( Charles Lightfoot Hopper) I found her papers recently. She married an Irishman which I've heard was somewhat unpopular back in the day. I just watched your video Mean Comments! I'm so sorry. They can turn it off, or find a other RUclips channel. I love it when you tell them that Lia!!! Joel, you are polite as well. Love you as a couple, you look like you have so much fun together. Keep up the good videos and I'll keep watching. We're a kind of bitter sweet society: Lovely, beautiful, and seductive places and people but full of rough areas too. Actually it's weird, you turn you head to the left, and suddenly you're in love, you make it to the right and then you're sick to your stomach...love and hate relationship with the tropical continental country.

I had friends (Americans) who were in Uruguay, where the "Okay" sign is a no-no/considered very rude. They were at a wedding and taking photos - Rich (my friend) got everyone in place, and he asked "are you ready? Okay!" They were nice to him, and explained how it shouldn't be used in Uruguay (as in Brazil, which is just to the north).
Another friend went to live in Ghana, West Africa. He was hitch-hiking in Ghana, but when he used the thumb to indicate "Going my way?" he found out very quickly that it's a very nasty thing to do in Ghana! The first car that saw him do the thumbs up motion, drove off the road to try to run over him!

Omg! I can relate to the whole time-keeping thing…we also have that too, in The Philippines (blame it on the Spaniards for making us inherit this bad habit! Lol!) When we occasionally have social events, everyone comes at an hour to an hour ½ late. Some of us even get so annoyed when we have to wait for our friends who show up at hour later. Ugh! Also movies and concerts start an hour-2hrs later here too.🙄😒 But when it comes to having important meetings, docs appointment, etc., then we definitely have to be on time. Otherwise, it’s not a done deal.
Please have a video segment about “What Do British People Think About The Philippines!”🇵🇭 I’d love to see it happen. Thanks Joel and Lia!!!😘😘😘

I can’t believe, did you make this video without talking to me? I'm Brazilian and I have been living in London. So we should have had a pint talking about Brazil. 😁
Anyway, yeah Brazilian women are absolutely beautiful like my lovely wife and two twins daughters. 😉 That's true, there is a lot of violence nowadays, unfortunately. It is so annoying. Time? Barbecue at 1 pm I will arrive around 3 and that's all right. If it is a dinner at 7 pm, at 9 pm I will be there. It is cool, but it is in a social way. If you have an appointment, we’re in time. Also, 15 minutes late for an internal meeting is okay, I think. Massage? Okay, we have amazing physiotherapists (but it is not massage). Rainforest? Oh, no. It is too far away and too hot, I’m out. Yes, Samba, but just in the Carnival. We do speak Portuguese and we love that. Spanish and Italian are a large community in Brazil, and also Portuguese of course. My family is from Italy and my wife’s family is from Spain. How many languages we speak? Oh... of course you will find bilingual people in Brazil, but in a overall it is too difficult. Languages courses are not good at all and too expensive. The vast majority speaks just Portuguese. I speak Spanish and I’m still learning English. I think I have a lot to learn yet and the reason why I’m here is for listening practice. I love your channel! Thanks for this. To conclude, that signal is rude, very rude. You forgot two topics: corruption and football...
    See you around,
    Leo

Many answers here from the Brazilians are correct. So my bit of opinion about visiting the Amazon rainforest is that we know about it but it is not our top priority to visit it when we have the opportunity to travel. Brazilians love to travel more to beach cities when in the country and they love going to USA, specially Orlando (for Disney)and Miami (for shopping).

1- there are really beautiful girls but its just a stereotype
2- here is quite dangerous, its not because of animals or natral desasters, its because there is sooo many thieves here.
3- its not all of us, however we are use to our own notion of time, if a brazilian invite you to a party at 3:00 pm it will probably starts just at 4:00 pm at least
4- we have the best mood of te world, we take almost everything as a joke.
    5- i never tried a massage hahaha
6- Brzil is huge, i dont really think anyone goes to amazon rain forest really, just who lives near to the forest i guess or who works at there.
7- we have a lot of dance types, samba is just one of then, some people know(because its really famous), but i dont know how to dance samba haha, a few friends of mine know.
8- the average of population just knows portuguese, however you can find some of us who speaks english, but its hard to find someone who speaks three or more languages here
9- the "ok" sign can means here literaly a anus, but if you uses diferently can means other things too, its not necessarily bad, if you just do the sign to someobody without a context we wouldnt be offended (i guess).

Being laid back and/or friendly has a lot more to do with the region you're from and the type of lifestyle there than the general country. We are a MASSIVE country and we differ A LOT from place to place
