Terrifying but congratulations! I do keto. When i slip for a while i still don’t eat the typical amount of carbs. It gets in your head so even when you’re bad you’re really not bad. If I didn’t usually live on keto I probably would be diabetic. It’s so clear and so obvious.
@@snaxximan5737 I developed symptoms of hyperglycemia, bought an OTC glucometer and fixed it through diet. I had non-diabetic labs 6 months prior at a clinic visit. I suspect if I had not made these changes and lost 130 ponds, I would not have lived with it very long.
"Telling someone who is overweight or obese to lose weight is like telling someone who is homeless to go get a job, go get a house: that's not very good advice, it needs to be more detailed than that." - Dr. Suneel Dhand
It's the damnedest thing... Yesterday i saw a video, talking about how a new study had found that if you eat 3x the "recommended" amount of salt, you're basically immune to high blood pressure. - My first thought. Then it goes into medicine, and i was reminded of an encounter i had, with a class mate this morning. I've not seen him for about a year, and i were to learn why ? The guy had had a heart attack, at 46, and subsequently a triple by-pass. At fucking 46... And i though i was unlucky getting a clot in the brain at 41. Seriously... What's going on? Neither of us are 50, and already we're declining in health, like we're 90... He's on 32 different types of medicine now. Poor guy. Yet, refuses to change his lifestyle, and who am i to force him. :( Me, on the other hand, i changed my lifestyle drastically after my blod clot 5-6 years ago... And today, i'm off ALL medication, and living my best life as a Carnivore. NEVER felt better... So, for me, it was a blessing in disguise...
And in terms of weight loss. In '22, just before i started my Carnivore Journey. I weighed 280 lbs. And i lost about 70 lbs, in 3 months, while sitting on a chair, not moving at all. At most i'd do some shopping, or waddle out into the back yard. No exercise required !
My Dr never asked me about my diet or exercise, but I got the questionnaire for depression twice in 2 appts. ...because that is the primary care Dr focus right now. 🙄
I've followed Dr Dhand for a few years now. He started during the CV-19 crap and was against most of the government solutions. Now he's moved toward healthier lifestyle and eating better. Not sure he's fully keto or carnivore at this point however. He's certainly suspect of big pharma.
Really appreciate these posts Dr. Westman. Something for everyone , to be sure. Truly worth sharing forward as well, so thank you very much. The Whitson's in AZ
My doctor never asks what I eat. My veteranian, however, always asks what and how the dog & cat eat - usually it's his first question at the annual check up. And he listens and asks for more details. He even asks me to describe their poop and if I've noticed anyting unusual.
Same. "You need carbs for energy." I looked around and was the thinnest person in the room, and I was still obese back then. _Nobody_ there was lacking energy!
Dr Kempner aka the rice diet reversed diabitities on a high carb low fat plant based diet. Pub Med data shows vegans have 1/ 3 the rates of diabitities compared to meat gouging Americans. The clinic was not wrong .😊
@@PaleoMeat And after 35 years of vegetarian (which I do NOT recommend!), they said I agreed to add fish to my diet. Insane. I've never gone back but really should have complained to someone somewhere.
I viewed a few of Dr. Dan's videos on blood pressure, and found him sensible. I'm glad to see you reacting to one of his videos. Just as I trust Dr. Atkins, I trust you - as I consider you his protegee - to sort through ideas related to diabetes and diet. Thank you.
I really am glad to have found you and your videos. I have been on a journey to rid myself of Steatohepatitis since being diagnosed in Nov. '24. Yours.Dr. Berry's and Dr Bergs videos have been a wealth of knowledge and all really explain nutrition in a way that is very understandable. Thank you for doing and sharing what you do.
One of the things that I think a lot of people who are really trying to help don't quite make the connection with is getting people to eat where they are full and satiated, which makes it much easier for most to stop cravings or being pulled back into the poor choices. It is so hard for so many to try to change through willpower as the promptings by your body for nutrition you don't get manifests as cravings or impulses we just cannot fight. When diabetics are told they must simply forego so many foods, we make them fight natural urges that the mind usually just cannot overcome over time. I think just telling people to restrict is correct, but not necessarily the best approach. Government and medical people are being influenced by profits throughout the system incentivized to be happy that people keep needing medications to treat each different symptom that manifests after the last medication was started for a disease ( diabetes ) that is not reversable according to many who have no reason to disbelieve that at this time. Some break through, as we see here. 👍
When I was diagnosed with osteoporosis after chemoradiation, my doctor (a lovely well-meaning man) told me to eat more grains, and take Prolia injections forever. I ignored the grain advice, and declined the Prolia. He begged me to take it. It's always about medication.
I had a heart attack and CABG in April of 2024. It is now February of 2025. I have seen many doctors since then. Not one has ever asked me about my diet, but they were all very happy to give me more pills.
Amazing you can watch 10 videos on health and get 10 different cure methods. I've tried a lot if things. I'm fine tuning carnivore diet for my body. Trying to nail the electrolyte mystery.
Feel bad that i don't want to listen to my docror who is pushing me for surgery. I have very high parathyroid and i am trying to help myself with good diet 😮
Yes, I also was getting terrible rashes all over my body that anything would make them flare up (deodorant, perfume and anything on my skin) Extremely dry skin and once I went keto it all went away, I don't even use lotions anymore except in the winter I use tallow after I shower. Face is not red and flared anymore.
You know, as you say you can easily test what drives up your blood glucose. This is not opinion. I don’t understand for the life of me what people have against low carb. I personally think it is crazy to ignore the obvious. Lol my dog will not eat any packaged foods. Meat, cheese, maybe yogurt. No grains or veggies. She’s so smart. Now that the effects of insulin are known, how can there be any doubt about what we should eat?
Your advice is too practical doctor. Where’s the element of magic we all want? Ie take this magic pill or herb, these beans will grow to the sky Jack. Amazing how simple this problem is- your blood has too much glucose in it, so consume less. If I had too much alcohol in me I’d consume less or none. Too much arsenic? Maybe cut back? Me says “it hurts when I hit myself with hammer” doctor answers, “eat less meat but keep pounding yourself with that hammer.”
We need more attention on this topic. Can we create a petition or petitions to raise awareness to those now capable of making changes, e.g. in the United States? Now with RFK, Trump, even Elon Musk (Think of the savings from reversing diabetes (and other metabolic issues) nationwide!!). And if this takes off in the US, it will prove to the rest of the world how this can be improved - do you think they won't notice? Also, perhaps, supporting the American Diabetes Society would help assist in this goal.
Dr. Sunil was insufferable in this video. Good lord. Such absurd vilification and strawmanning. Every doctor I've been to discusses lifestyle changes. The problem is most people struggle to make these changes consistently, so they need medication to mitigate the damage. It's not complicated. He thinks it's gonna help to take one random photocopied pamphlet and rip it apart? What's he trying to accomplish, here? Does he really think bashing the entire field of medicine is going to help people? No. It's just him trying to promote himself by manufacturing rage. Sad.
my fasting glucose went from 300's to 80's by cutting carbs to less than 20 g/day. No meds. Feeling great. Thank you Dr. Westman!
How did you even live with a fasting glucose of 300?

Telling an obese homeless man to " go home and quit eating"
No. Telling someone who is overweight or obese that calories in calories out is nonsense...
The fact that nobody talks about book called Health Secrets Industry Hides really gets to me. Always loved doctors that opens our eyes.
OUR government in the US gives horrific diabetes advice.
Now is the best time to make the needed changes!
Your gov gives bad advice on everything
I believe he is a physician in the US. He is from the UK.
The most terrifying sentence in the world… “I’m from the Government and I’m here to help”….
i just cannot imagine RFK has the answer to anything
@ Well maybe, but to date the answers have been pretty horrible…. The only way is up, as it were….
Yeah and private enterprise will solve all our problems.🥳

On average I would much prefer to go to a vet than an MD.
I wear a CGM. Most of what they recommend for diabetes would spike my blood glucose to the moon
diabetic educators need more information and training.
My old DR asked if I had food insecurity and if I could afford to eat… never asked about what I was eating.
Great video Dr. Westman! Thanks for introducing us to another common sense doc who knows, understands, and speaks metabolic truths! 💜
