    You nailed the issue with DEI being its Orwellian use of language. Same as most bills in Congress use naming themselves things like the “Patriot Act” when it undermines privacy and Constitutional protections. DEI is a name crafted to be a shield against valid criticisms about compromising quality and original character design to artificially create diversity through dictate instead of merit.

    I will be buying this because of the lack of forced DEI, the slop that's found in a lot of recent games.

    • @hraughr
      @hraughr Месяц назад

      That shouldn't be the reason named for buying the game, because companies will catch on and start using that as a marketing tactic, rather than giving quality.
      This game loos promising though, I haven't bought it yet, but it looks something I will dip into when the itch for an isometric fantasy will need scratching for me

    Reading between the lines on what Thomas said, I’m thinking early 25, Jan or Feb. A lot riding on this update and multiplayer nuances are hard to put together - can’t wait though!

    The most important part of DEI is how you do it. JRPGs are probably one of the best examples because they bring together a diverse cast of characters for a common goal. And most of the time, the race of the characters are ambiguous. Yet, their culture and own experiences can still be clearly defined despite this lack of clarity.
    Suikoden for example was a game about recruiting the 108 Stars of Destiny, less than half of which you get as part of the main story. The rest you have to find and maybe recruit through rather strange and usual means. However, they all come together because they have a common goal and each person brings something to the group. You have farmers, blacksmiths, strategists, sailors, and all kinds of people who bring a skill to your team and they're there because they believe in you over the others. Meanwhile, your aunt is siding with them to prevent your mom from going nuts and just nuking the whole town, thus becoming the lesser of two evils. This is what real diversity looks like.
    Radiata Stories took this one step further by dividing the group into the humans and the fairies, eventually forcing you the player to pick one side while the rest becomes your enemy for the remainder of the game.
    The problem is that DEI is superficial diversity. They're not telling the stories of a someone from a different background, but rather someone from their own background. As a known drunk would probably say, it's more like the challenges of a strong, 30 year old, wealthy, and suburban woman. The way they lecture the audience while doing the exact opposite of what they're preaching makes them hypocrites. This is why Masters of the Universe, Tomb Raider, and Rings of Power are being mocked into oblivion.

      @@ohnosmoarlulcatz I agree with most of this. However, there is no implementation of "equity" that is acceptable.

    • @ohnosmoarlulcatz
      @ohnosmoarlulcatz Месяц назад

      @@vewyscawymonsta I disagree. Orchestras have done this the best with their blind auditions, often not knowing the race or gender of the person their hiring and only judging them solely on their ability to play an instrument. It's a bit ironic that people who are pro-DEI are calling for an end to it considering it's the most realistic depiction of DEI in practice.
      It's more about a right way and a wrong way to show diversity, which is why I say JRPGS do it much better. Compare Dustborn to a game like Persona 5, which are both attempting a "voice to the voiceless" message as well as featuring outcasts as their protagonists.

    Even on paper, DEI is just not it. You’re never gonna get anywhere fighting discrimination with discrimination, we already learned this to a degree with affirmative action. Need to find a way to help underprivileged and minorities without more discriminating

    2:04 I don't know man it's Early Access, for me you're suppose to be a part of the development. This isn't that. I praised them at the start, but they've gone into dev mode. We don't know anything, still no roadmap. They don't have to put dates, just let us know what's the plan, what's the goal. Let us test stuff before it gets polished. You're a paid volunteer, again for me that was the point of EA.
    Why is development taking so long? Is it really just content, is it problems with MP? It's just frustrating. They need to dedicate some mods to gain some Q&A's or something, just every 2 weeks. Doesn't have to be exciting updates, just a "this is where we're at".

      I think games now should release 30 hours or so of content every 2-3 months to keep the fan base engaged. You know when a game drops we all binge and consume everything. NRFW wants to innovate and this could be another way to change in genre.

      @@McKnabbZ The reason I'm not inclined to believe what you're saying is the radio silence they are giving us. It's not the fact their product is taking too long, but rather the fact they don't seem to have a product at all.

    new subscriber here, agreed that they should show progress in the actual game and not just some empty promise. i really enjoy the game so far despite most of its short commings but that it is still in early access so alot of things can and will change, hopefully for the better ofcourse. speaking of short comming, why the Fck dears/stag don't drop crafting materials?? wolves and sirens drop with a decent rate but dears???? its already hard to find and then no hoofs, antlers or skulls? it doesn't make sense as the light armors needs these.

    Good lord. Look, this anti/pro DEI shit is really dumb. And what's worse is that everything that includes a character that isn't white, straight, or male is being called a DEI effort, instead of just accepting that stories have varied protagonists.
    It's not that complicated, and whining every time some character or environment doesn't reflect what you think the world is supposed to be is destroying art just as badly as anybody shoe-horning DEI characters into a story does. You don't KNOW that character is DEI, so stop flipping pretending that you do.
    I like most of what you talk about, Ginger, but good grief, you really harp on this DEI thing a lot. You need to acknowledge that you don't really know what's going through a creator's mind when they make their characters, so you don't know if it's DEI most of the time, shy of blatant moments like if you changed the perceived race of Snow White or something. And I'm going to be honest, what in the actual world would be wrong with a black vision of Snow White anyway? It's not like there's not enough white versions of her, and it's just a story in the first place.
    My actual point is this; don't assume every story that has color, or gayness, or female/genderless/they/them/whateverthefuckisnext is a DEI thing. As the diversity of creators increases, so will the subjects of their creations.

    So they're going to look into their lack of communication? Seriously? They released a game into early access with no communication plan? I don't buy it. I also can't buy that they got their nose to the grindstone and that's why they don't communicate. They seem to have time to respond to stupid Twitter comments but no time to talk to their community. As game developers that lost their publisher which we all know publishers are usually the funding source for a game you can't help but to think they're in trouble making content the game and aren't talking about it. They haven't done anything I'm aware of to put EA players mind at easy. Heck, even Fundog who is a small studio is making time for a weekly Q&A for their supporters. This studio seems to have lost the pulse of their fans. Making time to talk about DEI while ignoring their community isn't smart.

      DEI has been ruining companies for a good reason, it's anything BUT what it actually says. why do you even need to force DEI into anything? the most important thing any company needs to consider in hiring is competency or in this case product gameplay (also there IS a gay guard in sacrament in case you were not aware). DEI is in fact racism and sexism repacked. not sure if your actually advocating this purely out of your personal beliefs without realizing what it actually stands for or just a troll but it is clear as day what happens when companies go woke. the most important thing we need from moon studios is a great product (gameplay and story).
