~ So this is how the hike went with my friends on the 25th to 26th of Feb, 2023.
It was more than 5 hours of drive from Auckland (we left around 6am) going to Egmont National Park Visitor Centre as we needed to stop for to eat & stretch.
When we got there on Saturday (25th of Feb) the weather was gloomy, Mt.Taranaki's summit was covered with clouds. We already postponed this trip from last month because of severe weather condition/flooding/slips so we had no choice but to continue with this new dates even if we know that the weather would be a challenge.
We took the Holly Hut track, started hiking around 3pm & reached Holly Hut around 8:30ish. During the middle of the hike, we were able to enjoy some sunlight before it went gloomy again but had a beautiful sunset at the end of the day.
The next day, we decided to go to Bells Falls which supposed to be an hour round trip track but ended up doing it for 2 hours because of the rain water/mud!
We left Holly Hut around after lunch, the track going back was more challenging because it's more muddy due to the rain.
🔺️ Holly Hut Track: It's a challenging track, lots of soft ground, rocky area, & never ending ladder steps 🥹
🔺️ Holly Hut: It was so hot there during the night so we ended up sleeping outside our sleeping bag but became chilly early morning because it started raining heavily! We weren't able to sleep (got an hour or 2) because it's a shared room/bunk beds so you'll hear all the noise so better bring your ear plugs.
‼️Book your bunk beds in advance!‼️
🔺️There's no cooking equipment at Holly hut so make sure you bring your portable boiler for hot water, we had cup noodles/back country meal for dinner. Had some sweets & protein bars too.
🔺️ Toilets: There are two portaloos few steps from the hut but ofcourse dont expect that it's clean & will smell divine 😅. There's NO SHOWER there so bring your wipes.
    🔺️PACK LIGHT‼️
