Christmas 2019, a friend and I stayed on Mt Egmont (Taranaki) at the DoC Centre up on the mountain in my motorhome for three nights. Beautiful clear, calm days/night for the whole three nights we were there.
Thanks for the memories! I was in NZ in Mar/Apr this year and spent Lockdown in Fitzroy, but at the Top Ten Park. Though New Plymouth wasn't on my itinary when I was there, it will definately be at the top of my list if I ever return. And I did get Mt Taranki framed by the Te Rewa Rewa bridge!
Another beautiful place, even though the weather didn't cooperate. I would be nervous going all alone to that beach where the 3 sisters are. Definitely don't want to underestimate the incoming tide!!
I have family south of Mt Taranaki (or Mt Egmont as it was still called when mum was growing up). I love the whole Taranaki area and the best part is you can get a good shot of the Mt from around. If anyone wants to go up the Mt, its best to go from the north side near Inglewood, but Dawson Falls on the south side is really pretty too
Another incredible video. Seems nice to have more of a relaxing few days after all the craziness you've been up to! Sad about not being able to get that photo with the mountain, but you guys made the best of it as always and ended up having a nice, good walk.
I grew up in Tongaporutu (where they visited the 3 sisters) This beach and area has such an amazing and glorious atmosphere that you cannot describe! You can only explore it for yourself and be prepared to get absolutely covered in sad, water and mud 😂
Some next level footage here guys - fantastic camera work 👌 The coffee making sequence at the start so had me wanting a latte! That was a narrow scrape for Stacey with the kids on the bikes. Absolutely the parent's responsibility to explain the rules to them and keep them in close proximity. It ain't rocket science and I speak from experience of teaching my 4 kids to ride!
The Three Sisters beach was so beautiful, and I loved the tunnel! The coastal walkway you went on looked terrific for running. The bridge was super cool!
I actually live in New Zealand but I've never been to the three sisters although it looks amazing to visit, so I will definetly have to do that. Also I see the mountain almost everyday.
I emigrated to NP 3 yrs ago from the UK, often walk the dog at the whale bridge and I can count the times I’ve seen the mountain this time of year on one hand. I hope you saw more of NP than you showed in the video. The Patitutu rock is a good for viewing the area and an interesting climb
We always see more than we can show in 10 mins but also needed this time as a bit of a break :) We will definitely have to come back and spend more time there in the future~
Summer time sprints into to the water as the black sand burns your feet - love the west coast and the isolation. More than three people on the beach is a crowd.
The black beaches were insanely beautiful 🥰 also poor Stacey with the kids on bikes, she made me laugh because she took it so well, but bless her! Also the Plymouth little fact was so cute! I didn’t know that, and being from England I find it more sweet 🥰
When I was a child (70’s) we went there (Tongaporutu) every year and stayed in a Bach. There used to be three sisters, then erosion took one. More erosion has created more, ever changing I guess.
Nga Motu - The Islands is the Maori name for this area of North Taranaki named New Plymouth by the Brit's in the 1830s - The black sand contains volcanically produced ironsands- titanomagnetite which is a product of the relatively young volcanoes of Taranaki- the coastal currents move the sand the thousand kilometres up to the north tip of Te Ika a Maui [The fish of Maui] - boringly named North Island by Captain James Cook.
You need to go to Te Puia Springs (hotwater beach) on Kawhia's ironsand ocean beach. Take a shovel at low tide directly down from the walkway over the sand dunes. Use your foot and randomly dig into the sand to find the thermal hot spots, once you find a hot spot dig your hot pool (way better than hotwater beach in the Coromandel)
lol every time I've had my camera gear and time to go up Mt Taranaki it's hidden in fog like you guys experienced (and lucky you avoided the tide coming in... been there and unfortunately done that) :) (just be careful if you're doing drone or camera gimbal stuff on any of the black sand beaches, only fly low over the wet sand or stay above the sand that blows along the beach level. Black sand has iron in it, it'll suck into your motors and you can't get it out without disassembling the motor and using some putty/blu-tac to get it out. It's as much fun as it sounds). Great series, missing the road trips around there while I'm stuck back home on the Aus side of the ditch.
Always the case, gotta have a bit of luck to get the shot! Good heads up with the sand getting into your gear, that sounds like a nightmare! Hope things are getting better over that side of the ditch
"Are you guys going out?" "Nah, I'm staying right here mate" Literally laughed out loud at that 🤣 The Three Sisters beach was beautiful, I do love the rugged secluded places and to me, it felt a lot more spectacular than Fitzroy Beach. The black sand aside, it reminds me a lot of Scotland - rugged deserted beaches. Can't wait to see the South Island episodes.
😂😂😂 genuinely thought they were talking to us! Agree, three sisters was better than Fitzroy for sure. We're soo excited for you to see the south island videos!
These black sand beaches remind us of our times in Hawaii. Those "Sister's" are sooo Avitar, or maybe Lord of the Rings? Nice waves. We don't get waves like that on our Gulf Coast. Can you two share what full hook up rv camps are costing? Here in the States it's varied but generally around $35 a day. Still way cheaper than hotels. Again, these NZ episodes are a joy. By the way, do you follow our friend's Kara and Nate? Best wishes, James and Kim Oh, my Kim says to check out her Instagram page: "Treasure Hunt Foodies"
The cost of campsites varies a bit here too, especially in different seasons etc. We generally paid between $30-40NZD but prices creep up in places like Queenstown. Definitely cheaper than hotels! We havent had much time to keep up with other YT channels recently but of course we know of Kara and Nate 😁 Cool we definitely will!
So there is a sign saying check the tide times but the authorities haven't put a tide timetable up with it? That's a bit odd. Spectacular place though thanks for taking us.
Visibility is a bitch. It happened to us in Salzburg. It did finally clear up on the last day though. Lordy that place is gorgeous when its clear. Sadly its like the 11th most rainy place on the planet.
I feel like Stacey would be more at home on Mediterranean beaches (pebbles)... Guessing the "Three Sisters" are a little like the "12 Apostles"... (Not 12 of them either)...
@@DanegerAndStacey come on folks, just use your common sense, report a kid for not ringin their bell!!!! You gotta be kiddin, you’ll be the laughing stock for ages, bloody fun police.

Props to Stacey for the consistent amazing color. You guys are so chill.
Aw thank you!
Christmas 2019, a friend and I stayed on Mt Egmont (Taranaki) at the DoC Centre up on the mountain in my motorhome for three nights. Beautiful clear, calm days/night for the whole three nights we were there.
That sounds like an epic place to be for Chistmas!
Never getting tired of Stacey saying 'wow this is amazing' 😅

Stacey eating the chips watching her phone 😂 so relatable! Never really see that in a travel vlog I love it haha
😂Just out here living my best life!
Wow guys awesome!! I cherish all my days staying down there in New Plymouth with my family back in 2015-2018. Wish you good luck along your way!!

I love Taranaki . There is one beach where the black sand is magnetic .
Same! We have little magnets on the end of our tripod and the black sand always sticks to it! Cool but also verrrrrrry annoying haha
Yea the Naki not long now counting down the days.... After 14 years away it's time to go home...
