Calling someone a racist without merit is extremely harmful, especially to those who actually face racial discrimination.
With that said, Councillor Moise was shamefully and his tactic of labelling someone a "racist" should be examined. Additionally, he should be held accountable and be asked to explain why he made such claim.
Wow, city council shows why we need a new city election prior to October 26, 2026. The mayor shows her NDP colours by ignoring citizens about Financial Stewardship and pursuing personal agenda items with city council. And, why does Chow want to decriminalize Heroin and other hard drugs to addicts and youths when the NDP project failed in BC?
I hope the unions fight the mayor for every dollar in regards to a new collective bargaining. Obviously, the city has lots and lots of money. This includes a Black only food bank and Black only garden centres for growing Africentric crops initiative vs supporting a low-income food bank network regardless of race.
Chow received about 14% of the vote while Bailao recieved about 12%. Had John Tory thrown in support for Bailao earlier, she would have been mayor. Chow won because some voters recognized her name not because all the votes believed in her. The spread was roughly 34 K votes. Only a third of Toronto voted with the lowest turnout in 22 years. Now it is spend and tax until common sense priorities can arrive in Toronto.
The entire city council needs to be recalled. At this point if you're called "racist" or "bigoted" it means you are saying the right thing.

It's absolutely appalling that these counselors are behaving like this. Especially when the motivation behind the name change is a lie.
Henry Dundas was not responsible for delaying slavery. The debate over abolishing slavery was at a stand still, and showed no hope of moving forward. Dundas, who was in favor of abolishing the practice, proposed gradually abolishing it in the hopes of it allowing the 2 sides to agree on how to do it. It failed to pass initially, but it was successful in setting a path forward to the abolition of slavery. Had he done nothing, slavery would have abolished much later than it was. But because some intellectual lightweight decided to blame Dundas for the delay based on shotty research and a lack of understanding of the time in which he lived, along with a desire to grift of an American incident that was largely misconstrued to fit a particular narrative, they're erasing Dundas.
And the new name is absurd. It has zero connection to Canada, and doesn't represent anything about canadians. What's worse, it's from a tribe that captured, and sold its rivals to slavers.
They're removing the name of someone who helped abolish slavery, and replacing it with something that comes from people who kidnapped and sold people into slavery.
This entire controversy is the hight of hypocrisy and absurdity.

Daniel is not “claiming”, Moise DID call him racist and did not act professionally. An investigation into his misconduct must be done.
Nobody asked us Torontonians what it should be renamed, these councillors should focus on real issues.

I’ve watched a couple of these meetings. Debutants who share a different opinion to the direction councilors are going with are not so welcomed although it is their every right to be in the same room to speak. These councilors are not afraid to show how superior they think they are to you by the way they talk. Also, it is very clear that some of them are quite lacking in reasoning abilities - they can’t speak very well unless they have a script. They also cover each other’s asses. Just try sit in one of these live streams and you will see.
I will never call it Sankofa square. This is the dumbest thing our city can do. What will happen to people’s home addresses and businesses? This is A WASTE OF time and tax dollars. I don’t even know who Mr. Dundas is or what he did. I also don’t care.

PAULA FLETCHER WAS INCREDIBLY RUDE AND OFFENSIVE. THE 30,000 signatures is completely legitimate as many Canadians have lived in Toronto and visited Toronto and connect with the history of Yonge-Dundas Square. Fletcher’s behaviour was unbelievably rude. Seeing the city councillors behaviour was incredibly shameful and the person present deserves an apology for their mistreatment of the presenter.

Pick an Ontario citizen with the last name of "Dundas", and name it all after them. Zero cost solution that has pragmatic and humorous spirit to it. This is a waste of money in a city that can't even offer emergency shelter beds to elderly folks in wheelchairs.

Most people complaining just hate change and are selectively angry with changes. If they were ‘deleting history’ with a yt guy (e.g Ukrainian Nazi ally statue taken down recently) nobody would have an issue with it.
The money isn’t coming from taxpayers but I do agree it could be used in other areas but I’m fine with it overall, especially if it’s 3rd parties that cover most of the cost.
