RoyalBob each voice here is valuable and more of the individual voices can be sought out elsewhere as well. Why would one voice in this panel hold dominance? That is a power stance that is not consistent with shaping a new system.
These questions are so obvious to anyone committed to social justice. I do admire that Anand SPOKE them to those in power. I find criticizing entrepreneurs, even among middle class justice people, often goes over like a lead balloon. I am really sick of watching bio pics (almost hagiographies) about these people...
I don't think the Starfish metaphor is a binary scenario.......it is also about personal, collective, institutional, and cultural power.......so if you only have enough power to make personal change at the individaul level ( one starfish at a time)....then do it..... and trust in the multiplying effect of your actions....for those who otherwise might feel powerless to incite and advance progress....
Where in the world are the Yang Gangers in this intellectual community? This is insane. We have a candidate that will do exactly what these speakers are talking above. Wake up y’all!
Virtually everyone recognizes Trump is a symptom of a larger problem. Yang's ubi proposal is regressive and is more about gutting the welfare state than actually redistributing wealth. He also lied about supporting Medicare For All, while Bernie Sanders could actually be the new FDR.
Fangtorn i disagree. How is placing a VAT tax on luxury goods and on corporate juggernauts and funneling that into basic minimum income regressive? To me, that’s taking money from yatch sales and the Facebook revenue and giving it directly to the Americans getting screwed by firms working to use technology to cut out workers to bring more profits for owners, the top 2%. I do respect Bernie but Yang has thought out over 96 policies and distilled the problems and clear solutions to them. Best political candidate because he’s the outsider we WISHED Trump would be but was not.
@@charlestalleyrand5505 I don't know where you're getting the idea that the VAT is only on luxury goods or corporations. It affects regular consumers too, and since poor consumers spend more of their income than higher income consumers the tax burden is highest on the poorest, hence it's regressive. theweek.com/articles/858097/andrew-yangs-ubi-problem If you wanted to create a ubi to combat the perils of automation you could fund it with a tax on the corporations profiting on automation, not shift the cost onto everybody and make people choose between ubi or other benefits.
Fangtorn you missed the point. The definition of a vat tax is not “only on luxury goods or corporations.” Never said that and that is simply incorrect. The government can choose which categories or goods to apply a VAT to. Therefore, a government can see which goods affect poor consumers disproportionately and not have a VAT on that good. It’s simply not a blanket tax on everything is the point. In short, a VAT is not regressive unless you take a reductionist view. Second, a “tax on corporations,”... yeah dude that DOES NOT WORK. They have teams (listen carefully TEAMS) of tax experts and legal specialists that have mastered tax avoidance and tax reduction. I simply don’t see that as a viable solution but you may be an optimist and great for you.
I disagree with UBI. People should work. But unemployment benefits should be extended to 1-1.5 years. Medical benefits should be free for the most basic needs. So people don't have to fall into poverty if they lose health insurance.
They're the ones throwing the star fish back but, also the ones responsible for the star fish being beached in the first place.
elaborate I'm with you
They should have utilised this brilliant man Anand’s time and presence to extract more from him. Good discussion overall.

Boomers for Bernie:Think globally-Act locally. Not a new idea.
I will never donate again.
Didn’t realize it was hurting our democracy.
“Trump is a symptom” guess wjj hi o else says this??? Andrew Yang. We need to institute UBI and change the measurements of the economy.
Allison Griffiths YES!!

A better idea is that have a time limit on how long you be at will last last when you're not employed. Like 4 years
