    Wow, just the perfect final thoughts I was hoping to hear. We tend to shy away from cutthroat interaction, and GWT was pushing the envelope, but not quite too much for our play styles, while still providing tons of options and euro mechanisms with the deck building i so enjoy. Your description of Argentina having more options and complexity with less tension overall seems to be exactly what I’m looking for. Now we will have to try Maracaibo sometime, also.

    Hey Richard, thanks for these final thoughts. I've watched many of yours over the years, these stood out to me because you made so many great points that positioned the game among other games and moreover providing insight into what's possibly not to like and what's great.

    Ooooooh now I'm intrigued I love Brass Birmingham so the idea of a GWT given that sort of treatment is very exciting.

    I'm in a both of best worlds kind of situation. We already have a copy of GWT+RttN floating around in our group, so for me the choice is between keeping my copy of 2e or selling it and getting Argentina.
    Probably going to go with the latter. I like the sound of the looser feel and higher crunch factor. Base GWT's metagame is a bit too developed and constraining for my taste, so this should shake it up nicely.

    You already teased me that you will come up with the comparison to Brass L&B - the only game besides Nemesis where I own both "versions" of a game and did not decide for one over another.
    Have you any experience with the expansion Rails to the North? That would be a nice thing to comment about.
    Would you say GWT < GWT:A < GWT:RttN?
    Anyway - intrigued enough - I will watch the playthrough and make up my mind. Thank you!

    Thank you for comparing GWT with Brass. I always regret not getting Brass Birmingham and got Lancashire instead for the box cover art. I m the type of gamer who prefer a bit more flexibility, so i dont grudge about the restrictive design. Same way i prefer Coimbra over Alma Mater.

    • @Johannes_W
      @Johannes_W Год назад

      That's funny, I prefer Lancashire, but agree on Coimbra (whilst I would put Lorenzo as a more direct comparison) :D
      But I felt like Argentina changed game-feel and balancing more than Brass.

    I love GWT, but I have enough on one copy of the game. I don’t need every flavour of the same game. Then I would rather buy another great extra game. I recently bought Atiwa for example 😉 BTW: I tried 12 rivers at Essen on your advice and I was not disappointed: a beautiful and fun game. Maybe a bit on the light side for you and Jen however, but my 6 year old would love this game! Glad I tried it! Thank you for pointing out that gem!

      You could argue that Caverna is but Agricola in a cave. And that Hallertau is but a further expression of what Uwe likes to achieve. That the distance between each of his designs isn't as big as the new splash of paint perhaps suggests.
      In other words, I don't think GWT: Argentina deserves such ire for being upfront with the shared lineage.

    I hope they will do a major change (not minor as in Argentina) in mechanics and art in New Zealand vs GWT so that game experience would be different. I do not want to have two similar games in my possesion. I would buy Argentina if this was extension not second base game.

    • @rahdo
      @rahdo  2 года назад +1

      if this were an expansion, it would be almost as expensive as the base game since it has new board, new cards, tokens, etc. so it makes more sense for them to publish this way because if they did it as an expansion, they'd get much smaller sales :)

    • @mariuszkania9947
      @mariuszkania9947 2 года назад +1

      @@rahdo I agree but I rather think they could do some addons to same main board to addapt it to new mechanics. Anyway I also think that Argentina will not reach sales level as GWT because some people think that it does not introduce enough new stuff. So I think that sales would be the same for Argentina as an expansion. I believe that NZ should come with much more new stuff in order to keep sales and trust but future will show what happens 😀

    • @rahdo
      @rahdo  2 года назад +2

      Oh they could have redesigned it to make it an expansion that adds on to existing stuff, no doubt! But there's no denying that it would sell more poorly because you can only sell an expansion to people who already own the base game. If you make it a standalone game then anyone can buy it (bigger potential audience) and those who were likely to get the expansion... most of them if they really enjoy the game will get the new game as well
      there's a reason that ticket to ride has done mostly standalone editions rather than expansions over the years. It's just smarter business, and these days when explosive international shipping costs and increasing component costs are making it tighter and tighter for publishers everywhere, they've got to make smart business moves if they want to keep going :-)

  • @spielerrr2000
    @spielerrr2000 2 года назад +2

    Basicly it is the original GWT with an expansion, like Rails to the north. So sad that they now force you to buy it with the base game if you want to play this version. They could have easily produce it as an expansion.

    • @rahdo
      @rahdo  2 года назад +3

      i disagree. they'd basically have to create an entirely new board, new game pieces, new decks of cards, etc. there'd be very little crossover from one game to the next, so to make it an expansion, they would have had to cut back on the ambition quite a bit i suspect, or the expansion would end up costing almost the same as the base game regardless :)

  • @Dr_Claw

    Rahdo, your comparison between GWT and Ticket to Ride seems very appropriate, particularly in light of the New Zealand offering.
    At the announcement (of GWT 2Ed, Argentina and NZ) I was always most excited by NZ so hopefully NZ, like Argentina, follows the 70/30 mix of existing/new content.
    You and Jen have often commented on your desire to visit/live in NZ, hopefully GWT NZ can address your 2p concerns.
