I actually spoke mandarin irl for the first time while traveling earlier this month, I was super nervous and I messed up a bit, but thinking back to it now, I wish I spoke more with the people around there since there aren't as many people who can speak Chinese where I live

I visited Taiwan several times but I haven’t been really diligent about learning until recently. So I was getting ready to go but then with visa complications I wasnt able to go still sucks :(. but ive lived in Chengdu and shanghai. both for about six months As for learning Chinese I thnk the best way by far is to get around Chinese speakers as much as possible. chinese is a very hard languge to translate. What that means for a learner is that you have to be around the language enviroment to actually understand it. not just speak it. so get around chiense people as much as you can

Ai might be a better google translate. but if you keep that mindset, you will continue to be shut out of the conversations that arent happening in your language. If you do choose to actually learn you will change the way you see the world and for it you will be rewarded
