      Exactly. More to the point an attack on an S400 site would most likely involve many types of systems simultaneously, with stealth aircraft coming in behind. The concept in taking down any air defense system is to quickly overwhelm it and destroy it before it can be relocated.
      Edit: overlapping defense is by nature staggered giving offensive planning an advantage in when and where they strike.

    • @REgamesplayer
      @REgamesplayer 3 года назад +23

      @Miqdaad Indori Because maybe I'm a senior engineer? To a layman, a statement: "I was part of a team which helped to develop F-35 plane" might sound impressive. However, modern technologies are so ridiculously complex that we have engineers and scientists who can work on system in question and have no clue about it. For example, what a radio specialist can help develop radio communication for this plane. However, his work might be little different than making just another type of radio and he will just fiddle with his transistors and antenas. He might know a lot about F-35 radio, but it does not mean that he knows anything about plane itself. Or here is another example, what a guy which was responsible for putting tires on a plane knows about its performance? It might sound silly, but in real world people are just that much specialized in their task. A maintenance crew will not be briefed on plane's capabilities nor included in its testing.

    14 years ago it was believed that F-35’s RCS was slightly inferior to that of F-22. Real world RCS testing revealed F-35 exceeding its RCS requirement. Since then, pilots and people having access to the program such as former commander of Air Combat Command, Gen. Hostage, points to the notion that F-35 is actually stealthier than F-22. So in worst case, let’s consider F-35’s RCS similar to the F-22 (i.e. “metal marble” = 0.0001 m^2)
    91N6E is S-400’s primary Search radar. Based on public data, it can detect a normal fighter aircraft (RCS: 4 m^2) from 390 km maximum. Using radar equation, for F-35 (0.0001 m^2 RCS) this corresponds to

      Stealth isn't as clean cut as it sounds like. It doesn't make you invisible to the enemy, it just makes it harder to see you and buys you more time. There is always another frequency of radar detection or method to spotting stealth aircraft.

    You might want to think about purchasing Spear Capability 3. It's essentially a powered SDB II. You could launch them from low altitude using terrain masking and have them arrive near simultaneously on target from multiple directions. That would be a very hard capability to counter. Your EA-18Gs can also launch AARGMs at geolocated targets using GSP/INS or pure INS guidance, using its MMW terminal seeker in GPS denied environments. JASSM and JASSM-ER are other good candidates against geolocated S-400s.

    The biggest problem facing long-range air defense systems is dealing with hostile objects from a short distance because the defense missile is not designed for high maneuvers, but rather is designed to launch with increasing speed to the hostile target from a long distance. Therefore, all air defense systems rely on a multi-wavelength radar system to detect hostile targets. It has a low radar section from a distance so that it can hit it from a distance.

      All the fighter jet class which represented by letter "F"( unlike the bomber class )are built to be small size & supersonic fast mainly for useless fuel wastine & even non logic dog fighting
      an only 3 hour flying time aircraft with an avionics defendant pilot's human error & human health complications..Also blind because of his supersonic speed that generate a gigantic air pressure (or vacuum in the backside ) need only a small scratch ( not even a hole ) done by a small bullet in dog-fighting to pop that expensive aircraft .. the dog-fighting is what the fighter jet class is mainly designed to do .. who need to dog fight when you can track & hunt your enemy from any direction with any AI seek & destroy air/air missile like python 5 example :
      - The Maximum load of F22 (not F35) is 8 short range AIM Anti aircraft only rockets (a great example of fighters or"F" class narrow role) (that is it 8 without adding any other load like fuel tanks or additional spying avionics) each one of those AIM missiles cost at least $300,000-$400,000 USD & they still need an additional IR or active radar targeting systems on the plane to correct their route
      - In the F-117 they sacrified the supersonic speed engine & all the jet ordinary armament even the classic machine guns with only two 934 to 954 kg blast/fragmentation or penetration bomb... this the whole load .. 2 bombs less than a ton ( less than a small van wight) .. no engaging or even self defenses at all in this "fighter".. It is likely should considered as a very small bomber rather than a fighter jet . With these design considerations , no afterburner & with only 2 × General Electric F404-F1D2 turbofans .. this fighter "jet !" maximum speed at the highest performance was only Mach 0.92 ...without counting the trust/load wight plenty which was 40% (0.4) their point was that the stealthily faceted air frame required a large amount of maintenance & stealth highly expensive martial covering the F-117 body make no need for all of that ... it seems like desperate Lockheed Corporation realized how expensive useless & even non logic of the supersonic dog fighting .. so they tried to twist the concept somehow to keep their military customers .. after all they tried .. but stleth powers was crushed when One F-117 (AF ser. no. 82-0806) was lost to enemy action. It was downed during a mission against the Army of Yugoslavia on 27 March 1999, during Operation Allied Force. At approximately 8:15 pm local time, the aircraft was acquired by a fire control radar at a distance of 13 km and an altitude of 8 km: SA-3s were then launched by a Yugoslav version of the Soviet Isayev S-125 "Neva" (NATO name SA-3 "Goa") anti-aircraft missile system Photos show that the aircraft struck the ground at low speed in an inverted position, and that the airframe remained relatively intact.[53] The Serbs invited Russian personnel to inspect the aircraft's remains, compromising the then 25-year-old U.S. stealth technology ... The stealth technology from the downed F-117 may have been acquired by Russia and China ... thanks to fighter class useless dog fighting body design .. Some American sources state that a second F-117A was damaged during the same campaign, allegedly on 30 April 1999;[63] the aircraft returned to base, but it supposedly never flew again .. The loss in Serbia caused the USAF to create a subsection of their existing weapons school to improve tactics. More training was done with other units, and the F-117A began to participate in Red Flag exercises. Though advanced for its time, the F-117's stealthy faceted airframe required a large amount of maintenance .. The Air Force had once planned to retire the F-117 in 2011, but Program Budget Decision 720 (PBD 720), dated 28 December 2005, proposed retiring it by October 2008 .. PBD 720 called for 10 F-117s to be retired in FY2007 and the remaining 42 in FY2008, stating that other Air Force planes and missiles could stealthily deliver precision ordnance, including the B-2 Spirit, F-22 and JASSM.[68] The planned introduction of the multi-role F-35 Lightning II also contributed to the retirement decision .. this is destiny of any aircraft built on useless non logic dog-fighting .
      The last F-117 (AF Serial No. 86-0831) left Palmdale to fly to Tonopah on 11 August 2008. With the last aircraft retired, the 410th was inactivated in a ceremony on 1 August 2008
      The F-35 program has been plagued by cost overruns and delays, has been grounded twice, and even has been criticized by those within the Pentagon. The $1.5 trillion that will be spent on this wasteful Pentagon program is an enormous sum. It is equivalent to the cost of the sequester.not
      www.cnn.com/2017/06/09/politics/f-35-grounded-oxygen-problems/index.html
      the future is for UAVs which already done outrageous successful missions in Iraq & Afghanistan 100 times more than the classical aircraft are already not only replaced those classical old style dog fighting fighters jets ( the letter "F" refer to the fighter class ) but also got more & more great advantages & more new roles every single year .... there is no way to compare between an only 3 hour flying time aircraft with an avionics defendant pilot's human error & human health complications
      the AI in the USA long range missiles lunched over Iraq in 1990 was programmed to read the landscape features like mountains, rivers to reach its target accurately with no need of any direction or communications with its base or even global satellites ... unlike the avionics dependent blind supersonic commanding only pilots. The AI reflexes, reactions, skills , roles , information analysis , flight time.. etc has no limitations & could be upgraded easily than expensive training human pilots for years until his maximum retire age 35 years .. with complete health condition examination every 6 months .. Blind enough to use autopilot even over 18000 feet in the civil air-crafts .. compare all of that to highly accurate reflecting AI
      the F35 that raided Damascus the protecting fortress against ISIS was severely damaged

      The S-500 is not an upgrade of the S-300/400. It is a separate ABM platform that is very similar to the American THAAD platform. They are meant to work in tandem, but perform different tasks. The S-500 is not designed to shoot down manned aircraft.

    • @VisibilityFoggy
      @VisibilityFoggy 4 года назад +1

      @@thusarix121 - And if any American pilots using first-gen stealth platforms decide against staggering their bombing runs, they will be at risk of getting shot down. Except there *are no* first-gen stealth platforms still flying, and that Serbian shoot-down led to significant increases in weapons delivery tech and the development of new tactics to ensure that the plane can avoid being painted while its bays are open. Judging current stealth technology from a single incident in 1999 during which the pilot made an error is just plain ignorant.

    Legitimate question: Why would the F-35 use terrain masking when the S-400s maximum targeting range is reduced by the stealth features? Don’t misunderstand me, I’m not saying invisibility cloak, but doesn’t stealth technology in general mean aircraft would use terrain masking in fewer situations? RCS and detection is tied to your range from the radar array, and being at 50,000 ft with an RCS of a baseball is going to be more limiting for the high frequency targeting radar (not the search radar) than on the deck right? The low and fast tactical approach only came to light once missile ranges made high altitude bombers less feasible, wouldn’t a technology like stealth reaffirm high altitude strikes?

    The problem with expensive complicated equipment is that it can’t be replaced quickly.

    From what happened in Syria just recently, you wouldnt even need an s400 for a tomahawk. A regular BUK system would do just fine. Either way, it would cost the US to engage the S-400.

      BUK is for missiles. S 400 is for aeroplanes.

    I Will Say one thing...if you need to fly a conventional aircraft (f-15/16/18) next to the f35/22....what's the point of being "invisible" to the radars?...they will know you are comming anyway..
    Specially if you have jammers whit you.

    • @dumdumbinks274
      @dumdumbinks274 4 года назад

      Because stealth is not about being invisible and never has been. Stealth is about being difficult to engage. The F-117A that was shot down in 1999 is actually a really good example. Despite being detected at around 35km the Serbian SAM failed to lock on to the F-117A twice, finally achieving a lock at a very short range of 15km.
      Also, since the F-117A relied entirely on stealth to the point it didn't even have warning systems, it means the failure of the SAM site to engage at normal distances was entirely attributable to the stealth capability of the F-117A.
      Regardless there is no need to fly "conventional" aircraft next to stealth aircraft.

    F-22 vs S400 that what you should talk about.... but i think 70% of the technology on f22 is classified... so it's gonna be a lot harder to talk about

      its a 90's tech, doesn't even have a HUD because of incompatibility with more modern system of F35's. F22 doesn't stand much chance either.

      Besides the F-22 has been dropped from production years ahead of schedule because it fails to meet the needs. There are few spare parts remaining. The F-35 is crippled by laclk of parts so fully 1/3 of the entire fleet is on indefinite maintenance hold because parts have no schedule to be delivered for another 6 months. IF there was a war, and the sortie allowance of 1 per week, and no repairs in-theater, at the end of a month there would be no flying F-35 available. Every 20 hours of use it neeed extensive depot stealth coating application that takes a week or more. ...and that is in peacetime. In war when they are being shot at, no one can depend on them to be available. The can't even fly without control by AWACS and Russian missiles can wipe out every AWACS within 1500km

    assuming realistically were talking about syria, you would just need artilery and cruise missiles to take out the s-400 systems, radar, command posts, then you would use the f-35 to blow up everything else.
