They have covered quite unusual things for a metal band. Their version of Peter Green's The Green Manalishi was damn good as well. With both songs it sounds like it's one of their own songs - which is what cover versions should be

Right on, Joan Baez's original is wonderful (that whole album is, really). I recall Halford saying that Joan told him she loved the cover, and that her son was a Judas Priest fan. Of course that was referring to the *original* JP cover, which was faster and more hard rock sounding. Old heads like me remember it from Sin After Sin and Unleashed in the East. This version is more like the arrangement they did with Ripper in the 90's as heard on Live Meltdown. Ripper did an astonishing job on that...take a listen if you haven't heard it. He really deserves some credit for developing this version of the song, and for helping keep the band going during those years!
I really like your personality with all your quirks and eccentricities. I think everyone should have a person like you in their life. Much love, darling. Keep up the splendid work
Actually, most microphones today have a diaphragm, not a ribbon. Also it would be extremely hard to damage the diaphragm on a typical rugged dynamic mic, you can stick it right in front of the loudest amp in the world and it won't break

When Ozzy, his good friend, watches him in awe when he sings, well, that must mean something right? Also, I trust my ears and my kids taste in music. Halford is remarkable.
Yes quite true, unleashed is quite possibly their best live performance ever, but truthfully how do you quantify such greatness? It's just not possible😱
After seeing the movie about Bob Dylan, I realized that Joan Baez wrote diamonds and rust about their relationship. The fact that Judas Priest covered it never quite made sense to me until you imagine Rob perhaps reflecting on a relationship he had.😮EDIT: I just read that Rob said he and the band recorded it because after listening to it they thought, a good song is a good song so let's rock it up Rob said. It was management trying to get them more radio AirPlay in the United States in 1978
She's very open minded when it comes to different genres of music. She clearly forms her opinion on the entire performance, without any pre-judgement. It's an original and authentic view she has, regardless of the performer. 👍🏼
He mentioned you in his latest book by name talking about your comments and how he has no idea how he does it it just happens for him. And he is not too one for liking the sound of his own voice so strange but that's the beauty of music........
The sexiest woman alive really needs to react to Painkiller the official video. Talk about powerful head voice and falsetto! Exactly why he is called the Metal God!
Hey RVA, I wanted to give you a big old comment on the tech notes here but honestly... I'm in my feelings with this one lol. This is the kind of vibe that Disturbed wants to capture, but... yeah. I grew up with a big old homophobic boomer dad who was a massive, massive Joan Baez fan... who happened to have a queer kid who turned out to be a huge metal head. I can't tell you how much this performance, or Rob Halford coming out, just rocked my world. I especially love how RH delivers that most classic of F you lines "give me another word for it -- you were (always) so Good With Words and keeping things vague" -- it's minor and eeeccch on the whole bombast of the whole thing, but F me if that's not Validating for a lot of people who've had words and discourse pointed at them for just existing. It's so strangely cathartic, even and especially with this hammy performance, to have that said out loud somehow. Joan Baez read Bob Dylan the house down with this song but Rob Halford burnt it down and maybe weed on the ashes with a deceptively easy touch, and I'm always in need of a smoke break after hearing this version of this song. It's like The Chain by Fleetwood Mac but somehow, incredibly, better.
The real beauty of this song and rob halford is that during this song he is in so much control of his voice and mind that it looks like he is taking a walk through the park and pondering his thoughts instead of acting on stage with his band for thousands of people. He is so calm, but emotional and powerfull as well. This performance realy takes you away to the place he wants you to be. I dont know how to explain this correctly but i hope you get the point! Thanx for making this video and keep up your great work! Cheers!
Such a great version, was excelent to hear them bring this classic Joan Baez cover back to an acoustic version, (though their electric version is also damn good) Halford truly understands live vocal delivery and stage prescence, all the nuanced inflections and yes, his diction and ennuciation were always a few steps above most heavy rock band vocalists. This acoustic version really highlights the lyrics, being that it's such an emotive and perfectly told story that most anyone could relate to. Enjoying your channel very much as well, cheers!
Need to listen to either the original 1977 version from Sin After Sin or better still the Unleashed in the East version that just blows the doors off this.
Funny that whoever requested this, managed to pick a song where he doesn't go into his high notes, which is probably what he's most famous for, lol. At least now if you do a second song, it will be unexpected hehe.
I'm sorry. Actually not. I like his performance a lot and it shows his superb voice in a song that isn't that popular. I was pretty much aware of the fact that others will post Painkiller or Victim... I like stuff that's not that obvious.
For his age in this performance, it's really showing how amazing his voice still is. He doesn't have the range he had in the '80s. You can compare live performances of songs from this tour with how he performed them in '82 and he's had to shift whole sections around to his current range, which is still impressive even in its diminished state.
Most of these " vocal coaches" only know of main stream pop singers, they have no knowledge of metal singers that had the greatest vocal abilities of all.
Thank you so much for reacting to Rob Halford, Rebecca! He is nicknamed the "Metal God" and has been around for over 40 years. You might want to listen, for a reaction or on your own time, to some of his "younger" live performances from the 70's and 80's to get a fuller scope of the talent of the man! One of the earliest ones would be Dreamer Deceiver/Deceiver available here on Priest's Vevo. If you just type "Priest Deceiver BBC" in the search bar, it should show up first. Maybe then, Victim of Changes live from 82 or 83? Any other suggestions from the metal maniacs?
Hi Ms. Rebecca! ANOTHER great pick! Over 4 decades and with a wide vocal range which is marked by his high-pitched screams and strong vibrato, Rob Halford is one of the most Exceptional Rock Style Singers to ever come along. In the same category with Freddie Mercury AND coming out of Britain, Halford is a True Master over his craft. However, he is an aged man now albeit his lower range has matured and become more powerful with time, Rob is nearing his retirement. I HIGHLY recommend watching some live concert footage from the 80s if you wish to see this man (and band) in his true prime. Check out "Victim of Changes", concert in Memphis, TN around 1983 (free on youtube). He is truly an impressive singer with a 4-5 octave range (can't recall off the top). Thanks again and good day you beautiful lady :) Larry the Electrician Maryland, USA

They have covered quite unusual things for a metal band. Their version of Peter Green's The Green Manalishi was damn good as well. With both songs it sounds like it's one of their own songs - which is what cover versions should be
lossow1's comment should be pinned, Rebecca!

This song is actually a cover of Joan Baez’s song. She wrote and performed it.
But JP rocked the hell out of it!
She likes this, she ought to check out Painkiller.
YESSSSS!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks wonderful human
You gotta love this chick, critiquing perhaps the best voice in all of heavy metal.....so good indeed.
Brucey boy from Maidem is better.
Rob Halford has one of the most powerful singing voices in metal. He actually shredded the ribbon in a microphone with just the power in his voice.
He actually must take extra caution not to kill microphones, there's a vid of him singing near a fan full power, it shows she suffers...
Actually, most microphones today have a diaphragm, not a ribbon. Also it would be extremely hard to damage the diaphragm on a typical rugged dynamic mic, you can stick it right in front of the loudest amp in the world and it won't break
@@j_freed yeeah well Rob could do it
More than once.
if you want to see one of halfords greatest vocals please check out "desert plains"live 82,its unbelieveble!
I see him in Phoenix every once in a while, riding his Harley, looking like a big bald vampire.
Yeah he reminds me of that one vampire movie with (David soul) from the old TV show
(starsky and hutch) ahhh for some reason
( King Solomon mine) comes to mind,I know that don't even sound like a vampire movie but that's the only thing that keeps popping up in my mind 🤔
When Ozzy, his good friend, watches him in awe when he sings, well, that must mean something right? Also, I trust my ears and my kids taste in music. Halford is remarkable.
Rob is a better singer than Ozzy. And I love Ozzy!
Rob Halford, Bruce Dickinson, Ronnie J. Dio. You don't need any more singers, you're covered with just those 3.
@@andyb1653 Except I'm not a Maiden fan. So....🤷🏻♀️ Dio, Ozzy, Halford. Everyone else pales in comparison.
@@seedy6538 You like Dio but not Brucie? Odd. To each their own, Ozzy's a damn legend too so I can't fault ya. Peace!
The “Unleashed in the East” version of this song is the benchmark. This doesn’t come close to his full range, but the full metal version does....
I think Victim of Changes would have been a better song to critique.
-Agreed especially when you listen to Victim of Changes or the Green Manalishi!
Yes quite true, unleashed is quite possibly their best live performance ever, but truthfully how do you quantify such greatness? It's just not possible😱

You need to listen to "Beyond the Realms of Death" from their album Stained Class.
The entire album..............
It was management trying to get them more radio AirPlay in the United States in 1978
Best heavy metal singer ever-
Love this woman and her reactions to these hard rock singers! Keep going my sista!
Love your vids. Nice breakdown of performances and you are funny and beautiful as well! From Minnesota, USA
Halford is a genius and is still amazing at 71 years old.
The best Diamonds and Rust recording is from Unleashed In The East...no other version comes close...check it out.
I'd argue that the Epitaph version comes close. Half soft, half heavy, best of both worlds.

She's very open minded when it comes to different genres of music. She clearly forms her opinion on the entire performance, without any pre-judgement. It's an original and authentic view she has, regardless of the performer. 👍🏼

@@twm8513 it's a good thing I only speak English! I don't care to understand ghetto gibberish...
The studio version is the best version of this song so you can hear the beautiful voice of young Rob
Cheers!
Rob and Bruce from Iron Maiden have two of the most intriguing voices in metal...
Ronnie James Dio too
DIO tops them all, hands down.
Add Geoff Tate of Queensryke to that list
Curtis Thomas.... Paul Dianno for me. But Dickinson great too.
And Sebastian Bach
It's Rob freakin Halford lady. He has one of the BEST voices in metal. You aint never heard this dude??

Rebecca please have a listen to the original studio version of this song, you will quickly realise the heinous and pure raw talent of Rob Halford👍👑✨
Funny that whoever requested this, managed to pick a song where he doesn't go into his high notes, which is probably what he's most famous for, lol.
At least now if you do a second song, it will be unexpected hehe.
Can u do one on noddy holder
I'm sorry. Actually not. I like his performance a lot and it shows his superb voice in a song that isn't that popular. I was pretty much aware of the fact that others will post Painkiller or Victim...
I like stuff that's not that obvious.
This song doesn't give Rob Halford's voice any justice at all.
It's like react to Pavarotti singing "Tom Dooley".
For his age in this performance, it's really showing how amazing his voice still is. He doesn't have the range he had in the '80s. You can compare live performances of songs from this tour with how he performed them in '82 and he's had to shift whole sections around to his current range, which is still impressive even in its diminished state.
TerSan I’d buy that version of Tom Dooley
It shows some of his range (not full extent) but it definitely shows off his masterful technique and control.
Love this version of diamonds and rust. Really beautiful
Most of these " vocal coaches" only know of main stream pop singers, they have no knowledge of metal singers that had the greatest vocal abilities of all.
True it seems. Sad really.
Out in the cold. 👍🏼
Amen to that!
You got another thing coming 😉
Hi Ms.
Thanks again and good day you beautiful lady :)
