Yes that's only partially true. His father died in the Rwandan genocide for sure but even before that, he abandoned his wife and kids in Belgium and moved back to Rwanda. Stromae had very little contact with him from that time until his death. So the lyrics show a mix of resentment and sadness for a good reason.

They’re normally a cappella but in this song they utilize Lindsey’s violin and Pentatonix member Kevin plays cello while beatboxing at the same time. The Pentatonix version isn’t quite as dark as Stromae’s, but still is about a father who is unavailable for his son. They performed it in French. I’d love to hear your review as to how well they did.
