You are so right about the index and middle finger pick. I was having so much trouble until I figured out the difference in the distance. It does make a difference! Thank you for this video.

How long do strings last after using metal picks?

i usually practice a hour a day and i change mine out once a month.. really its not the picking hand that kills the strings as much as your fretting hand. the oil from your fingers kills the strings faster than anything

When I started playing I had real trouble getting my thumb-pick to stay on, it kept sliding off. I tried different models, all plastic, and I even tried melting it a bit with a flame so I could reshape it better. Nothing worked. It wasn't until I tried an all-metal thumb-pick instead that I could finally make it stick. Now it never feels loose or falls off. It took a whole bunch of adjusting to where I could wear it comfortably, but it was worth it.
Only downside I see is that metal and plastic thumb-picks sound very different. If I want a more softer sound, I can't achieve that by just changing to a plastic thumb-pick.

i use the blue chip thumb pick which has a metal band and a plastic tip! its the best of both worlds
