Gold leaf, sizing, acrylic base medium all from the art shed - Хобби
I heartily recommend picking your leaf sheets from the book with a slip of waxed greaseproof paper, rather than your hands. It keeps it flat, almost guarantees no errant flyaway slivers, and helps apply it without wrinkles.
Do you know any video or site that shows how to use it for this kind of art? I heartily thank you ☺️
@@niviamaeva I’ve struggled as well to find how they are used still couldn’t find one yet 🤭
Thanks for the tip on putting a piece of plastic over it before you burnish it . Nice job !
jerry owen thank you for watching
I used a brush with alittle leftover resin to stick my gold leaf it worked perfectly. A little hair spray from far away glad it is still together 😊🤩yours turned out beautiful 😍
Thank you so much!! I just learned the most important thing, that I was not doing.
I didn’t do the plastic to smooth out the gold leaf. I kept pulling it up, and I had place where the gold leaf kept coming off in small areas. So truly, thank you! 😊
Regular Mod Podge is just PVA glue (also known as permanent white glue, craft glue, book binding glue, etc) thinned with water (enough to make it thin enough to be able to be applied thinly or it won’t dry clear, but never more than 50% and usually more like 3 or 4 to 1 depending on original thickness of the glue).

@@teslaandhumanity7383 Thank you!!! :)
Wonderful ❤
Thank you for a very informative and pleasant video, I was able to learn a lot from this.
To avoid the marks left at the end of each leaf, once the first layer of lue is applied and has druide, work mal by small areas and lightly wet the surface where you want to apply the gold leaf. My recommandation is that you should never work a wide area which has been fully died. Glue, dry. wet and apply gold. At the end use bitume de jurée laquer to accentuante the rediliance and give âge to your work.
Pacific Angel thanks for the tip
Thanks babe, you saved me a headache. I'm decorating the back piece of a wooden chair with two gold leaf mermaid silhouettes. Keeping myself busy in lockdown boredom..
Fans video! I'm about to try this. Thanks so all your help
You make this look so easy! I’m off to have a go…
Great video. Loved it. You are such an amazing artist. I love everything you do. I wish you were able to come to Florida for a class or a meeting. I was researching ans i couldn't find anything. If you know anyone please let me know. I saw your art and i just felt that it was my kind of art lol. I love youuuuu
Maria Noguera I would love to teach a workshop in Florida. Maybe one day.
That came out beautiful 😍
Hi,I loved it.... I have used the leafs on my table edges and now iam finding it ,its kind off peeling little soo should I apply a glue on it or ..... iam scared it may come out....
This looks great! What do you seal it with to avoid tarnish? Brand and make?
Would love to see an acrylic painting done over the gold leaf, so that the gold leaf shines through from behind thinner layers of acrylic, or interference materials.
That would be pretty
Thank you for this helpful video.
Linda Bartlett that’s great to hear.
Hi Sheri. I see you're using imitation gold leaf. I'm wondering if there is absolutely no tarnishing over time when it is sealed in resin? I'm considering starting with imitation gold leaf as I begin to make resin jewellery so I'm wondering how long this beautiful gold colour will last encased in the resin? I will consider using real gold leaf in the future....but for now I think the imitation would work fine. Any insight on this would be very helpful. Any thanks for all your amazing videos.
I was wondering can you use solvent based acrylic varnish under oil paints and over them or just under ? Also what do you use to varnish at the end of the oil painting ? and which board do you use to paint on as I am using canvas and the foil takes on the weave. Thank you for sharing your video and your work is really beautiful.
Great video! Had been looking to see if anyone uses Mod Podge to seal their gold leaf and you do! Now I can seal mine.
Love this. Thanks!
Hi Sheri, would this technique along with the spray varnish be strong enough for guilding the base of a tulip dining table? Do you know if it would hold up and be long-lasting? Thanks!
Thank you so much! That was so helpful ! Is it the same process using the gold flakes ?
Amazing as all of your art works that I watched tell now, can I do the same under resin?
Great tutorial 👍
Thank you . Is it more stylistic to keep the seems ? Or to make it looked gold dipped?
beutifuul art i love it
Although this was VERY helpful, I would like to see a video on how to apply gold leaf to a painting. Thanks for sharing your tips and tricks. 😃❤️
Mary Frances McKnight okay will do :)
Great video....what actually would you use that board for ?....thanks
Hi, I used the imitation gold leaf on my canvas for the first time. And it started tarnishing. Is it safe to add another coat of the gold leaf and use a varnish right after?
You answered my main question from the start! “Can you put sizing on top of primer? Like metal primer?” Thanks. Moving forward with more confidence now.
The glue works really well on smooth surface. If you can I would look in to an oil base gold leaf glue as they tend to be a bit better then an acrylic base.

Thanks. I’m ordering the DUX brand (which is oil based sizing) off Amazon. Along with 24k gold leaf and pure silver. Finally doing something more creative with my four leaf clovers other than cold laminate cards from Walmart lol. I’m also using a two part resin that will be in contact with the gold leaf. Think that’ll be a problem?? I’m gonna make sure to let the size set for at least 48 hours (after leafing) before I introduce the resin part.
Love this video
Hi Sheri loved your content. I have a doubt about the varnish. I am currently working on a set of acrylic painting with gold leaf on some patches on canvas board after I am finished with the painting i am not going to frame it which means the canvas will be exposed to light and air. So for varnishing i have the spray one which is multipurpose spray used for automobile, furniture, etc. Can i use it for the gold leaf acrylic painting?
Sheri, thank you for your presentation. My husband was excited about me wanting to try these type of art projects. He went ahead and bought me some gold-leaf sheets, and some other supplies so that I could have a try at it. The only thing that I am worried about is that he bought me some Modge-Podge.but he bought the Purple Midge-Podge, the hard tack one, not the Yellow bottle. I am wondering will the hard tack Modge-Podge still work if I mix it 50% Modge,-Podge and 50% water to apply the gold-leaf sheets to the canvas? Is the hard tack purple bottle of Modge-Podge too strong since it is hard tack? Will I still be able to use it as the adhesive to glue the gold-leaf sheets on to the canvas? I hope so. Please give me your opinion, as I am certain you will have a good answer for me. Thank you and Bravo and Cheers to you and your work!
Love this!! Thank you so much!!
Great instruction. Thank you. Please lower the background music since we can't hear you clearly.
yes, music is so loud :(
Hi dear what did you applied after you brushed all the extra small pieces, and what for?
Hi mam, what brand you use for sealing your goldleaf?
Thank u for the great information.
Sherri, I'm one of your new subscribers! I have a question about the Modge Podge that I should use to cover a canvas with. Should it be the Hard Modge Podge or the other one that is softer? I think that the latter one is the one you use, but I just want to know if it's the hard Modge Podge or or the regular one? I'm want to order the right one! Thank you, and you made me not be so frightened at the prospect of trying to do one of these for the first time. Thank you so much for helping me! Best wishes and Bravo to your impeccable work with gold leaf.
probably worth investing in a 'Harris' brush...the the bristles wont keep coming out when you're painting ;)
Thank you you for this
Thank you for sharing.
Hi there, I did some glass vases in gold leaf but not reall y with it.
Just wanted to ask if you can reapply glue and gold leaf on the same places again.
Try using bole (clay) and burnishing it with an agate, it’s amazing
Nice work
Does the sizing dry clear especially if you were going to just apply gold leaf onto clear acrylic?
So to be clear what glue did you use to apply the gold leaf an once its applied the last step is to varnish wish mod podge or ?
As a suggestion, it is worth looking into using a blond shellac for the topcoat if you're looking for a traditional approach.
Carl Ardron thank you for the tip.
Would you suggest any video showing how to apply it? Thanks 🙏🏼
Can i paint with acrylics over the shellac ?
Really liked the idea of using a piece of wax paper or parchment to press down the gold leaf. Would this work on a canvas?? (New to the process)
yes
Thank you, Sheri. One question. Do you use gloss Mod Podge or matte finish to seal?
Thanks
I personally don’t like mod podge as I find it yellows over time.
what do you use for the size/adhesive?
Hello. Very beautiful work.!!
May I ask a question please... can someone use wax after gold leaves?
Thank you very much.
You'll never get an even coat
I applied cold wax on one of my paintings that has silver leaves. The wax does reduce the shine of the silver leaf a little bit, but you can buff the area when the wax is dry to get to the level of sheen to your liking.
Can you maybe write down the product list you used🙏🏼
Is it safe to use daler rowney’s pre fixative spray as a sealant ?
would a transfer of a picture work on a varnished metal gold leaves canvas
Thank you 🙏🏻💕
Can we recover gold from the Gold leafs byelting it or by use of Chemicals?
Good instruction, but why do the outlines of the gold leaf squares still show after burnishing and sealing? Seems that it should be a smoother, more solid finish. Just curious...
Hi Sheri, amazing work and thanks for the tips. Where can I get these round primed board that cater for international shipping?
Alice Wong hey you just need to google wooden art boards to find places that sell them to your area.
Is there any way to avoid the obvious lines between each sheet? So it's more cohesive.
layer more on top of the lines
How long do you wait before brushing the excess gold leaf off?? And how long do you wait until you seal the leaf??
Thank you 🙏🏻
I wait until the glue has fully set
I wanted to ask varnish is important for gold leaf if I don't wana use it. is it k or not? love from Pakistan
Amazing
What about all the seams? Is there any way to get rid of those? Perhaps tearing the edges before applying, or overlapping the sheets?
I think I've seen another video where they overlap them, buff, and apply a second or third coat again, buffing between each.
ruclips.net/video/I5rnYbH3Mbw/видео.html have a look at this video for no seems
What would you seal it with to prevent tarnishing?
There is a product called gold leaf sealer
You’re saying you don’t like to use mod podge to seal but you did in this video. Why not just show us what you actually like to use to seal? Xx
Can i use heavy gel medium gloss to coat my silver leaf? Its what i have available.
Yeah you can use epoxy or lacquer on top as well with no ill effects.
Is it possible to paint with acrylics over gold leaf? If so would you just seal everything at the very end once all gold and acrylic has been added over the top?
It would be great if some one actually answered a few of these questions....
Which varnish you have used. Or can we use decor varnish
On yours we can still see the outline of each sheet of the gold leaf. When you look at picture frames done in real gold leaf you can't tell gold leaf was used. It looks like solid gold. Are your edges still visible because you are using imitation gold leaf or is there something else?
@Mechanical Music & Vintage ok I gotcha. That makes sense. Thanks
Do you know the difference between regular sheets and double gold ?? Where s the best place to buy genuine gold leaves ?? Thank you
Sepp Leaf
Do you find that Mod Podge leaves method of applications more so than Golden's GAC 200 ?
Curious as well!
Great video! What color gold leave did you use? Is it champagne gold?
Yes it is
Informative but the music was too loud and not necessary, especially in parts that I really wanted to hear clearly.
Where can I buy antique Silver and Gold leaf squares, please let me know. Tx
If you use imitation gold foil on an outdoor application, what sealer would you use for best protection and minimal loss of luster?
Richard Moss I’ve been searching for this answer also
Did you ever find a solution, Richard?
Hello, what was the first liquid you use?
Any way to avoid the square patterns from the leaves?
Yes, you can use this stuff called paint!
ruclips.net/video/pjNTAm_78Ug/видео.html
This will help you out
Work with flakes, burnish and do several layers
Can u plz tell me how many time gold leaf takes to dry?
One more reason to clear coat, or varnish is that imitation gold is poisonous to eat whereas real gold leaf is not. Just a small FYI in case your leafed work is around kids etc.
Very good video though
Great tip
Losing hair's from the new brush at beginning, wash brush and dry before use , nice job though 👌🌟
Hi is modge podge basically just PVA glue ? I’m in 🇬🇧
Yes it is, but you can also buy midge pod gear at the range
How do you do 2nd layer if needed ?
So I want to do just the sides of a table. The problem I have is that some of the gold leaf sticks to the top of the table even is I do not apply sizing. I'm very careful to apply the sizing only where I want it. Any tips for cleaning up the bits that stick to a shiny surface (resin)?
put some tape before starting n keep air around u very still
Hi sheri! Do we have to seal imitation gold leaf if we have to frame our paintings???
it's best to do so because it can change over time
Can I use the varnish with it?
What is the material in the last step... In the Red box??
Thank you
ruclips.net/video/4Vi9mavVlx4/видео.html
Can you use modgod for the adhesive
I just didn't understand if this was the finished product, or if you were going to put stuff on it, and how did you end up using it.
Amber Leaf I put resin on top and created an art work.
Any tips for adding gold leaf to an outdoor sign? It’s actually painted on the wall of a building so I can’t bring it inside at any point :/
it may tarnish if u dont seal properly
is this some different type of canvas? and not that cloth canvas??
i tried applying gold leaf on 30gsm paper with acrylic background,
it got stick to some non adhesive background as well.. can you plz tell me why?
It’s on a mdf board
Which mod podge do u use
Sorry I can't find the product list? Xx
Hi. HELP PLEASE 😁😁 Can anyone tell me if you can apply gold leaf straight onto wood pls?
I have a cupboard and it's a little rough so not sure if I can apply it??
glue has to be put befor applying gold leaf
Sir you use your work pure gold lief
What is the best varnish for imitation gold leaf? Do I have to seal the gold leaf first? I tested some gold leaf on a test canvas and applied liquidez gloss varnish and it oxide. I didn’t apply seal first. Is that necessary?
yes
What varnish can we use to protect gold leaf?
There is a product called gold leaf sealer
Great video, but music detracts and makes it difficult to hear you
What a sissy
I agree, i almost missed when she said to let it dry for a couple days before applying the glaze
For real i have to crank the volume way up just to hear her
Can you paint over this gold leaf?
Thomas Vorderer yes you can :)
can u write and tell what can be used for sticking gold leaf and what name of sealants are used. Thanks
I did not understand as well. Please share if known
Did you use the spray?
good question
