    This is FANTASTIC! I had no idea. It would be nice to actually have my "prop phones" be able to ring and receive a call when shooting a film. Otherwise, we have to put in the phone sound effect in editing. But if the phone in the shot can actually ring, it will have the exact correct sound to match the room. I had no idea there was such a device. Thank you.

Now I hear the bells from my rotary so I never have to worry about missing important calls again.

      Actually, four prong connectors were very standard across the US from the 60s till the 80s when modular phone cords became easier and more available. Lineman across the Bell System converted many hardwired sets with four prong connectors to the standard line cords we see today. An “M” would be stamped into the dial card noting that the set was modulated.

    My only beef with this is if you have Bluetooth speakers in your house anywhere, as long as you're using any of them, you can't be connected to your phone anymore. I'd love for someone to create something like this that runs on Wifi instead. You get a device like this, you just have to put an app onto your phone, and it's always communicating.

      If you want to do it without your cell phone. Most internet providers will give you a home phone line but it's over internet. You can buy a small $39 box to plug in so that your old rotary phone works on your telephone lines that you use nowadays bada boom bada bing it's done
      And it'll be its own phone line, not your cell phone. You will once again have a rotary home telephone line
      And honestly most internet companies give you that telephone line for free when you pay for internet. I don't pay for a home phone but I've got one so ....I plugged the phone in

    • @Lincolntowncoupe
      @Lincolntowncoupe 2 года назад

      @@Bozemanjustin The good news is I don't necessarily want a rotary phone, I want touch tone phones. Mostly because dialing a 10 digit number on a rotary phone will get super old really fast, and you can get some cool vintage touch tone phones, which typically have a conventional phone jack.
      The bad news is I have checked with my provider and sadly that isn't an option for me. I'd have to activate my phone line and that's just not worth the money anymore these days.

A big issue I had was the rotary phone not being programmed to receive that specific frequency and therefore the phone would work (like when you knew to pick up the receiver it would connect to the incoming call) but it wouldn't activate the ringer at all.

    That is so simple! My senior relatives have so much trouble using their cell phones. I thought that the best solution would be to make an adapter to connect a classic phone to the cell phone, either by wire or Bluetooth. I'm glad I found this video before I charged ahead with the project on my own.
    A couple features I had in mind, though are: ➊ It should work with touch-tone phones (DTMF), not just rotary. (I suspect the Xlink gateway may support that.) ➋ It should let the user choose a number to dial from the contact list on the cell phone by pressing the buttons on the touch-tone phone.

    • @fluffyty19
      @fluffyty19 2 года назад +1

      Yes. If you get real, local landline service over copper lines rotary phones will still work 100% as intended since the phone network has not been upgraded significantly since rotary phones were still in use.
      If you have VoIP landline service (Comcast or any other provider’s cable, any fiber provider like Verizon FiOS) look up the Rotatone adapter, that will convert the pulse dial signals to DTMF tones like a touch tone phone

    • @HobbyOrganist

      The old copper landline phone services are gone, you can still get a "landline" for the old phone but it comes as a device that the phone plugs into, powered by a wall wart, and it uses the local cell tower with a number for the old telephone separate from your smart phone and number, it does cost around $45/mo

    So let me get this straight. You had an opportunity to call the rotary phone and let us hear the old fashioned ring to prove it's working, and you failed to do so.
    We still have zero evidence that actually functions. You could have had somebody else call that cell phone.
    That's why it was the Paramount of foolishness, when you had the opportunity to actually dial the rotary phone, so that we can hear the damn thing ring, and know this isn't just some internet fakery

      SO? there's numerous other videos showing these phones working, the Xlink device just plain works, I have one, it makes my 302 rotary dial phone work in and out, BUT I'm hard of hearing and I need to figure out how to add the volumn boost device I have- between the handset and base for that to work.

      This RUclipsr gives a great tutorial on how to set that up. However, instead of plugging in a more modern home phone, you plug in your rotary. It's the same process though.
