I had one of these laying around and it never had an option for pulse dialing. However I saw this video, dug it out of my junk drawer and did the firmware upgrade...now it works with my rotary phones! Thanks for letting me know this was possible!
When using a rotary dial you don't need to keep your finger in the hole after the clockwise turn, it should return on its own unless the spring is broken.
Yep 100% agree let return spring do it's Job!!! The More I tried to Rush entering the number e.g rotating dial backwards I would always stuff up on the Last Bloody Number ffs!!! Saying that I never did Break IT)🤦 But try telling that to a adhd 7yr Old 🙆🤦 OMG THIS Phone killed my LIFE 🤯🤬
Nice to see that something is available that still supports pulse. Might be interesting to connect one of my rotary phones just for nostalgia. The commenter is right about how to use a rotary phone please pull your finger out of the dial hole and let it spring back by itself if it can. I've seen worse. When I did Telecom for the school system some schools still had rotary phones in the office. The children did not understand how to use them they would press the numbers in the dial thinking it was some sort of touch tone and then give really funny looks when nothing happened. We had to stifle our laughs
10:37 I have a transparent plastic ConAir phone from the 80s that has three orange lights on the inside. Enable High Ring Power was required to get the lights to light up. Otherwise the bells would ring but no lights. The dial pad also lights up green when the phone is off the base. The next issue I'm trying to solve is the eight and zero buttons aren't working. Press but no beep. I notice that the green dial pad looks dimmer than before. I need to find a regular landline to test and compare. I suspect the GrandStream isn't supplying enough juice. Any suggestions?
What are they doing to support automated attendant systems? As the network becomes more and more digital the DTMF tones do not work properly all the time. The FCC is mandating the discontinuation of analog lines. They should also mandate that the companies find a solution for this problem. It affects banking, telephone entry units, almost any business that uses an automated attendant. Not to mention systems that use a dial up connection for updates, YES they are still out there. Some installed just a couple of years ago. We are not talking about decades old infrastructure.
I have a large resort that did not want to swap to IP running off 48port GXW FXS adapters from Grandstream PLUS one of these for the alarm system dedicated. The front desk, office, other areas in the main building are IP phones the rest we stuck with the 20year old analog phones and they work fine.
Informative, thank you, With regards to the settings in the Grandstream, does it need the help from the telecom company to know the server and password info?
It works awesome I had to do some research on FreePBX to know to use the secret and NOT the password field in the extension on the Grandstream or any phone for that matter.
Love this! Trying to get a Western Electric wall phone to work in the garage, at least in some capacity. Problem is, we'd need battery power (usually run an extension cord from the house when needed, so that's Plan B.) Also the router is in the house, but we can get WiFi in the garage. Bluetooth retrofit would be the easiest route, but that would make it redundant.
Use a wireless bridge to connect to the garage to the home wi-fi. Telephone "talk battery" is going to be provided by the ATA so I don't know what battery power you're talking about unless you have no power in the garage and you're trying to run the ATA off of batteries.
You can also keep the ATA near the router (and preferably both powered from an “uninterruptible” power source, then run a phone line to the garage. (Most ATAs can have 1 kilometer or more of standard phone line to the phone location).
Excellent information I did everything but log into the ata box and register and change to pulse So when I called my old Contempra desk phone it rings now because I change that little wire that you pointed out to the other slot and I picked up the receiver and I could hear my wife talking on my cell phone when we made the call and of course we get a dial tone. The only thing that I’m unable to do is dial out and I think that’s because of the pulse and registered information that needs to be done. I’ll probably call my provider who supplies this box and see if their tech-support team can help me with that thank you so much for your information.
Are you using a dedicated VoIP computer running the Grandstream software or is this a virtual service provider? I am looking at the Free PBX software I can load onto an older machine to work for starters as a home inter phone system with a Grandstream 4 port FXO interface for POTS lines. Only issue stopping me is that someone gave me a bunch of Cisco 7960’s for free and I am having trouble converting them to SIP. I AM NOT totally versed in IP protocols and setups, my background is a FCC licensed radio tech. Sometimes I wished I had attended classes for networking.
Oct 2022: Thanks, was the video I was looking for! So if I wanted two analog phones over existing wifi - say, between house and garage, would I then need TWO of these boxes? Also, is this a subscription-based service or can I just use my existing wifi router and a wifi extender with Ethernet on the 2nd phone to have simple VOIP connection? Thanks.

I was working with this device and my question is how many phones can I connect, because I have had a problem: You can receive calls, you have a tone, very well, but when you make a call from any phone, then no more calls come in and the answering machine is activated automatic. Any ideas? any limitations? Connecting only ONE phone goes well ...

I need a dial plan for the Grandstream adapter so I can dial * and # with numbers. I entered this dial plan: { [126]x+ | xxxx }, but it doesn't work completely. The second part is already functional. If I dial a 9 before the number, the connection is established. But the first part doesn't work. I would like that if I first dial a 1, a 2 or a 6, the adapter automatically puts ** in front of the number, so when I dial 620 it should dial **620. Could you helb me?

Most people live only with their cell phones now but if you do that, your life is in danger. If you get something lodged in your throat while eating, how are you going to tell 911 where you live when precious seconds count? People say "they can use triagulation now to find you". Okay, you have 3 minutes left to live. How long is triangulation going to take? And first you have to find your phone. And then it had better not be turned off. And if it's on, hopefully your battery is not about to die just as you're calling. So having a home phone plugged in and powered up all the time is a wonderful thing (voips work so long as the power is on) and so long as you pay for the 911 service on an obi or other device, you're (hopefully) good to go. Magic Jack has 911 already included.
Some cell phones have a dial tone like Jitterbug. Us senior citizens need to get together and riot and over turn cars until they bring back the dial tone to all cell phones. Just a passing thought for what it's worth. What do you think am I alone ?

Nice 1 sir
is there a way to use this with residential Google voice?
Probably not
@@WillieHowe thanks, might just get a Bluetooth home phone with multiple handsets and be done with it.
Love ya work ! ;)
Some cell phones have a dial tone like Jitterbug. Us senior citizens need to get together and riot and over turn cars until they bring back the dial tone to all cell phones. Just a passing thought for what it's worth. What do you think am I alone ?
Don't forget there is a difference between FXS and FXO ATA's
Magic Jack made one at one time.
