Look up how it got called Jacklyn tho and you won't want to call it that anymore. It's a really interesting story, but sad for the plants wild populations....but yes. I bet you'll never call it Jacklyn. I stopped.
THANK YOU Melissa for calling this by its Proper name. Once I read how some social media person went to Indonesia, saw this in ppls home (an already named plant that locals found beautiful and would keep)-- and how she paid them to get more, she named it after herself, and sold them online. The demand got so out of control, wild populations were decimated. At first it was collected legally and I guess you could say it stimulated local economy, but then they began to go to protected land where collection was not legal and it was collected there as well. Populations in the place it was originally found were totally destroyed. Thank goodness for tissue culture which ruined the wild collecting market of this plant. (And, when all this came to light, she changed her story of how the first plant was found, and how it got named after her, but the internet lives forever and her initial posts tell the origianl story) But to take a native plant that was already named and call it after yourself is sick. This woman cares nothing about this plant, the people in the region of which it came, and showed no integrity or respect. It shouldnt have her name. So thank you for using the proper name and letting ppl know its proper name. You are the first youtuber to do this and to put it in the title of your video and that is huge! Love your channel. Keep up the good work!
@@ThatRandom2f I will look for it. But I listened to another podcast and they also had her interview as well as her posts, etc. her story has changed many times .... So I dont trust her. Especially when you consider the village she found the plant in and what transpired afterward.
4:15 YES!! For the love of god yes! So many growers don't realize how HEAVY of a feeder Alocasia are. Fertilize with a strong NPK value fertilizer like 20 20 20 every 2 weeks. I fertilize my 3 Alocasia every single watering 1.5-2 weeks have been for 3 years and never get burn. If you don't give it enough then the plant will consume the oldest leaf for energy to make a new one. All plants do this.
Absolutely LOVE my Jacklyn! She's a baby, I just got her last week. She's in Semi hydro and I will feed her bi weekly, water flush in between, like I do all my Alocasias. She's very happy!
Mine has been in the one leaf club for ages, until last week it finally put out a second one 😂 they're still not big and definitely getting too much light (leaves aren't as dark as they should be) but I have no where else that I can fit it 😅 hopefully the older it gets the more it'll adjust and stop being pale hahah
Happy Sunday! Gorgeous Jacklyn! She’s living her best life. Mine hasn’t fallen out of the pot again thank goodness, and she hasn’t skipped a beat because of it. I can’t remember but I think you said you got your things to prop up her stems on Amazon??
I just got an Alocasia Brancifolia and the stems have the same look as the Jacklyn. I’ve never seen one in person so snagged it. They look like they are in the same family (other than Alocasia) but this is almost more fern like? Either way love them both and can’t wait for my Jacklyn to get this big
Hi Melissa, you have become my ‘go to’ for information on pon and stratum. I’ve never thought about testing the ph etc. do you need to have a meter like yours or can I use just ph strips. I have recently put my two baby Alocacias into pon from stratum, but never thought about testing! Your cats are lovely. Best wishes from overcast Cornwall UK 😊
Thank you! It depends on what you want to know. If you're using the recommended amount of fertilizer you should be okay but if you're curious on the amount of nutrients it can be helpful. I recommend checking ph if you're wanting to learn more especially if you think you are having issues with nutrient lockout.
My jacklyn is outdoors for summer and has been loving it. But I think her inflo may have been pollinated. She lost most of her leaves which scared me. She’s now getting a new leaf and looking better. How long before the seeds develope?
I was wondering are you still currently using your foliage pro liquid fertilizer? I know you switched up from foliage focus to dyna grow....how satisfied are you with foliage pro if you still use it
I transferred my Jacklyn to pon about 3 weeks ago and she’s not happy, at the same time I transferred my alocasia silver sword and he has given me a new leaf.🤦🏼♀️
I think the Jacklyn is my favorite Alocasia. She's so pretty 😊🌿💚👍
It's soo pretty!! I love the fuzzy leaves lol 🫶

I loooove your Tandurusa! I think this alocasia is so unique and it´s so cool to see it mature in your care. Maybe I´ll get one for myself one day :)

Thank you and you're welcome hehe 😻
I finally have a baby Jacklyn. I can only hope mine grows to be as beautiful as yours. I hope you stay safe during the tropical storm.
Thank you! Most of it has passed through but going to get a lot more rain. It was a little scary yesterday with the tornado sirens and wind 🫣

you can find them on amazon or Etsy!
Wow! That thing is weird-looking! I love it! So is the trunk woody or some other texture?
it's so unique! It has a texture somewhat but not sure how to describe it lol.

oh cool I'm not familiar with that one. I'll have to look it up. I love the fern look! Hoping you get some great growth to come in 💜
What is the tds of the feed before you feed her?
She is beautiful. Once you put your plant in Pon can you put your plant back in soil?
Thank you! You can transfer it back to soil :) It may go through some shock though
Love these types of videos. What's the little gadget you're using to support the stems?
Thank you! It's called a stem support or plant support. You can find them on amazon and Etsy!
@@plantsbymelissa thank you 😊

I've never actually pollinated an alo before so I'm not sure. I imagine it depends on the individual species.
Good morning Melissa. This is going to be good
Mine is struggling. Help. She little. Two leaves and in pon

I was wondering are you still currently using your foliage pro liquid fertilizer? I know you switched up from foliage focus to dyna grow....how satisfied are you with foliage pro if you still use it
Yes, it's my current fertilizer :) GTFF wasn't working for me.
@@plantsbymelissa are you using the one in the new packaging or the original foliage pro
I transferred my Jacklyn to pon about 3 weeks ago and she’s not happy, at the same time I transferred my alocasia silver sword and he has given me a new leaf.🤦🏼♀️
Do you buy lechuza pots or other brands of pots?
mostly off brand. The only lechuza pot I have is for my micholitziana
💜🤗💜

❤❤❤❤❤🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗
Tanduk rusa means tanduk = antler rusa = deer.. so tandukrusa means deer's antler.. literally describing the foliage shape
Would you try a Colocasia?
I've had them before - they usually end up going dormant for me 🙈
That cat sounds like a weed eater
lol
