  • Did the crew of American Airlines flight 1420 exceed the 10-knot crosswind regulation limit, as they attempted to land on a wet runway on June 2, 1999? If so, they were in clear violation of the Airline’s operating manual.

It not just pilot error, airlines have pushed them to the limits. Pressure on schedules prompted significant delays including weather. American Airlines should have not put these two pilots into these conditions like these

The captain lived in our neighborhood and gave career speech few weeks before the accident. Sad what company pressure does to employees

But pilots failed to activate spoilers or speed break to avoid land at high speed.

So…combination of bad pilot and airline pressure to be on time? Think it’s the former.

A captain with 10,000 hours of flying shouldn't lead into a crash or anything like that. They could have just aborted the landing and maybe try another way to land. Or keep circling the airport till the weather conditions improve and is much safer to land on the runway. Plus why did the controller did not advice them to go around instead?
