just cleaned my PS4 pro for the first time after 2 years of heavy use, it wasn’t massively dusty but still needed cleaning and it sounded much better afterwards 👍
Dude you are so useful to the gaming community, big thanks to this video. I had a problem with my ps4 pro for about a year now. While using it, it would shut off suddenly with no errors codes. It would not turn back on unless I physically removed the power cable(from ps4 not outlet) for about 30 secs and back in and wait 30 secs before turning it back on. It would boot up as if it was turned off inappropriately. I would be able to play it sometimes for days and leave it on rest mode when not playing to avoid issues. Sometimes I’d go to play after work and find it dead again until I would do same process mentioned above. Overtime it got worse, now 2 days ago I would turn it on and it wouldn’t even last 5 min before shutting off suddenly. Even when doing that power cable fiasco, just every time. So immediately looked up this video to learn how to disassemble my ps4 pro safely to do a deep cleaning and redo the thermal paste. Everything went smoothly until I put it back together and tried turning it back on; it was a dead brick. Disassembled and reassembled twice late last night to check different things Ive seen in your ps4 videos. This morning I opened it again to do a more thorough inspection and came across a tiny resistor on the power supply that was snapped off on one end, I resoldered it and problem solved. I haven’t left it on for long and haven’t stressed it playing it. I’m not sure if I have to replace the resistor or not before I can use it normally. I’m not to knowledgeable on them. When connected and testing continuity is it supposed to beep or not? If it beeps does it mean it’s bad?
You and me both. My Pro has been very loud as of late especially when I boot up a game so I'm thinking it's the fan and intakes. Will try it when I get the courage to pop off the cover lol.
For anyone who doesn't want to break fingers for the first time opening it, try using something like a spoon and cover it with something soft. One hand hold (push down) the ps4 near the corner and one hand pulls up to open.
I took out the power pack and blew compressed air through the heatsink from there (after watching most of your teardown videos), this blew huge bits of dust back through the fan and now my PS4 runs much quieter. I thought this was a much easier way as I didn't have to take the motherboard out just to clean the heatsink. Thanks for all your videos, they are all great. Hopefully this will help someone else who doesn't want to go through a complete disassembly just to clean the heatsink.

Dude thank you so much for this video and the dismatling video! I've just turned my PS4 Pro back on, after dismantling and cleaning the completey blocked heat sink, and it started up and everything looks amazing so far! My Pro had switched off a couple of times one night after it had been on all day which made me think 'overheating?' so I used air to try and clean the vents and fan as best I could without completely dismantling, I also began watching it and not over doing it but it happened again today so I turned to you. All I can say is amazing, thank you and sorry for the long reply!

Many people are just looking for the info in this video and wouldn't be trying to so through the other.. Plus this guy makes straight up helpful quality content¡!
This video combined with the full teardown allowed me to find a quicker way to clean the heatsink. What I did inside the bottom is remove the screws in plastic on the back half and flip it back over to remove the PSU and held a vacuum over the fan and blew compressed air backwards through the heatsink to dislodge the dust. I used a flashlight and mirror to look through. Might be some stuff left on top but I can audibly tell my system is running cooler.
Thankyou! I’ve been contemplating taking my PS4 pro apart for a long while as it was so noisy! Watching this and your tear down video gave me the confidence I needed, my PlayStation was disgusting inside, there was even a dead spider in there. It is completely silent now, like new I honestly couldn’t believe how much of a difference it had made
Finally got the top off ps4 pro. If having problems opening it just get some scissors and use the handle of the scissors to push open the corners. Worked for me
After cleaning and adding new thermal paste and pads it was so quite. I even had to take it apart to make sure I plugged the fan in. That’s how quite it got. Thanks B.
The back of the heat sync is located next to the power supply. If it's not too blocked up you can use canned air to blow any dirt and dust backwards through the heat sync and fan. If it's pretty blocked up you will need to take it apart though
He really help me with my PS for Pro even though I did not have the tools to unscrew it I just took a Q-tip and cleaned inside the vet one by one but remember make sure you clean the fan to just stick the Q-tip in there gently
Thank you so much I got my pro when they first came out and about a year in it’s started sounding like a jet on every game I played even minecraft and I never knew you could remove the top so I left it how it was and only today I found this video because it’s started to overheat aswell. When I took the top off it was layered with dust so I spent half an hour getting it all off and I’ve just loaded up modern warfare and I couldn’t hear a thing thank you so much I can actually soundwhore now without the constant rocket engine in the background
Steve, I love your videos. I JUST got a PS4 Pro last night to replace my original PS4 and I can't wait to clean that bad boy. I will probably upgrade the HDD while I am at it. Thanks for your vids!
@TronicsFix I just wanna thank you from the bottom of my heart, I openned my ps4 yesterday, and after it, I though I had broken it, then I watched your video and tried again today, guess what, it's working perfectly, and it is not even making any noise
Good video for how to take off the top. One thing to mention. don’t think running a rough brush over a dirty fan as all that dirt and dust will fall straight inside the machine. Surely it’s better to use q tips first with say a rubbing alcohol so not to push all the dust further inside. Plus canned air will also shoot the dust all over the inside.
It was awesome if consoles had cooler upgrades, I wouldn't mind paying extra 20€ to get double of the cooler size, or even something like a 50€ watercooling option I would chose it right away over the stock cooler.
guily6669 The Xbox One X has vapour cooling and it is largely impressive, can still kick up some noise but it quieter than the PS4 Pro by a good margin. If the PS4 bad such cooling it'd be the perfect console!
i just took my new ps4 pro apart to clean it and to apply new past. After that i decided to leave the top and bottom enclosure off and position it vertically with the fan near the top. It used to be pretty load during loading screens. But now it's not revving at all :). So it cools much better. With the covers on there is just a little bit to little airflow to cool it properly. I know i'm going to have to clean it more often like this but i want to keep everything cool. I used some wooden wedges (clothespins (taken apart)) to keep it standing steady.
I recently bought a PS4 Pro from a friend who had a roach infestation in the past, so I'm glad I found this so I can thoroughly inspect and clean it out once I finish treating it for pests

Just used this video to clean out my ps4 pro for the first time since i got it at launch, thanks for making it so quick and easy to approach, Ive been meaning to do this for a year.
Hey thanks for the video! I have another one for you: when my ps4 pro runs downloaded or digital games, an overheat warning shows and immediately shuts down... It is 2 years old and I haven't serviced it since I bought it... Thanks for your time it's hard to reach a sony play station tech these days
I've had the pro for almost 5 years now. I always hoover the edge of the pro. Never done the fan. Wasn't sure how to open it up. Going to check how much dust is visible. I did my my ps5 after 3 years of having it, it collected little dirt so i just hoovered it. Thanks for the video
Correct me if I'm wrong but... You could remove top cover...and unscrew the power supply and remove it. That way you have access to the heat sink. From there you can use can air or your vacuum cleaner and dust it off. Just make sure to block your fan from spinning since it can generate electricity. Thermal paste usually isn't a problem but you should replace it after two years of use.
Great video thanks! I'm getting sick of the noise of my Pro now, I've opened the top and cleaned the fan but to no avail so this video is gonna be my guide for some extreme cleaning! :) Have you done any guides on the thermal paste? does that contribute to the fan noise or is it more dust and just bad design that's the culprit? :)
A freaking life savior...I didn't see any screws...my top fan was cover with dust...my ps4 pro was acting weird when's hot...I'll let you know if its fixed
PS4 pro was loud even with games that aren’t too demanding. This fixed the issue. I also moved my console away from the wall to give it more breathing room 👍👍
Thanks for the great videos! super informative and helpful. My sons PS4 pro fan comes on a lot and gets hot. Your video helped me to take it apart without breaking it and cleaning the fan and vents. We'll see if that takes care of the problem. Cheers!
Exactly my thoughts. If you brush it or use canned air, while some dust will go out, some will also go to the inside of the console... I use the vaccum cleaner on every console that i own one or two times per month, and i clean them on the inside every 2 years. My original ps4 and my xbox one were almost as new on the inside after 2 years. They would take 4 or 5 years more before needing inside cleaning. I like tronicsfix videos but i don't think this advice is very good... It works, but i believe vaccuming is better. All the dust will go out. There's no chance for dust to go inside.
Thank you for this video. I just cleaned my 7200 series ps4 pro. I notice the exhaust vent has a mesh screen in it behind the power supply. It collected dust that would of blown straight out the now more open rear vent. I removed it and my ps4 flows much more air and fan doesnt ramp up as much. My ps4 was barely dusty. Mainly jus the intake vents. It sucks in a noticeable amount of air. Could you do a test with your temp probe and measure thermals I dont have a way to do it my self ^.^ I'm sure it runs cooler. Need for speed heat doesnt make my fan ramp up as much anymore
Mr. Tronics I'm having trouble opening up my ps4 pro the last console you opened it was tough just like mine but you managed to open it thank you for your video please do make more videos
My daughter recently experienced an overheat while playing a game. Personally I have been really good about making sure the intake vents were dust free, but I got a PS5 and gave my kid my PS4 pro. Since then she’s been playing it consistently without cleaning the vents. My question is can I remove the power supply without voiding the warranty, or do the warranty stickers need to be removed to remove the top cover? My plan is to just get enough access to the fan and heat sink for a cotton swab, some compressed air and a vacuum without having to do a full breakdown.
@@umad5687 same for me, the left side was a pain in the ass. You need to apply a lot of force, but not too much to break it. Anyways its a plastic panel, it shouldnt cost very much.

My second time you saved me bro 🙏🏽 thank you 🐐
I can’t open mine! Haha holy mother of the gods! The clips located in the middle loosens easily, but the corners, oh hell no, they refuse!
Haha I had the same problem.i pulled it hard enough. Then it opened up
you can used a mini crowbar and it worked just buy it from amazon
Most helpful video I could find. Thank you sir
Nope...there are screws on the bottom side you have to remove to get the power supply out. Trust me...if there was an easier way I would tell you.
Finally I won’t have an airplane fly by when i play rdr2
I remembered doing this with my old PS4 having to clean the thermal plate
Thanks man my room isn’t a airport no more/subscribed BTW
Great video thanks! I'm getting sick of the noise of my Pro now, I've opened the top and cleaned the fan but to no avail so this video is gonna be my guide for some extreme cleaning! :)
Have you done any guides on the thermal paste? does that contribute to the fan noise or is it more dust and just bad design that's the culprit? :)
thermal paste as far as i'm aware is used to protect components as opposed to reducing heat
Thanks to your video, I was able to open up the PS4 pro and clean up my fan, heat vents. It sounds much quieter now.
You have blown my tiny mind, I didn't know it lifted off.
I used a small screw driver on each corner to get the top off. Just push it with lil force and you won’t break it. I’m cleaning my life now lol
Thank you so much for making this vid! It helped me when my PS4 sounded like a jet engine. Now there's no sound :D
Did you clean the whole thing or just the fan?
OriginalAero the whole thing
Hey steve is there a way for cleaning heatsink without voiding warranty
Nope
Probably blowing air through the back of the console torwards the fan. Might need compressed air if the heat sink is plugged up with dirt.
Wow man thank you so much my PS4 don't sound like a damn jet engine anymore 💯 so glad I watched this
I mean.. how do i put it back together? 🤣
A freaking life savior...I didn't see any screws...my top fan was cover with dust...my ps4 pro was acting weird when's hot...I'll let you know if its fixed
Can i use a new toothbrush instead of brushing with a brush?
I think yes
Thanks boss you're vids are great love the content with such detail
What do I have to do if I am having machine gun sound? Thanks for the upload btw.
Unfortunately, I don't know...not sure I've heard that from a PS4 before.
Does it turn on and boot?
Otherwise it could be a hard drive problem
Thank you soooo much brooo you don’t understand 🙏🙏🙏
I opened my Pro after 1 1/2 years and it was super clean 😀 So proud of myself lel
Nice work!
You must have 0 household dust in your house lol.
PS4 pro was loud even with games that aren’t too demanding. This fixed the issue. I also moved my console away from the wall to give it more breathing room 👍👍
I only cleaned it Bcz there was a roach there and I wanted it to get it out so yeaa thxs
Get an exterminator, I usually get one every two years and it's the best thing you can do for your sanity
Thanks for the great videos! super informative and helpful. My sons PS4 pro fan comes on a lot and gets hot. Your video helped me to take it apart without breaking it and cleaning the fan and vents. We'll see if that takes care of the problem. Cheers!
Never brush or blow vent dust, you’re just making dust go in the vents. You should always use a vacuum hose and suck the dust away from the vents.
Brushing and blowing it out works great. Vacuuming works great too but you don't have to suck it away. All of those methods work great to clean these.
Which one of you is giving me the facts ????? xD
Randy Lynch Me
Randy Lynch this idiot is clueless; blowing is far more effective than suction and doesn't blow dust back into the system if you angle it right.
Thank you so much! It was very hard to open! 😅
In a alternate universe: ps4 is using human to clean brush.
Luv my PS4 pro'
How do you know if your ps4 need to replace the thermal paste? Mine sounds like a jet when playing nba 2k24 or other hard/heavy games.
thank you you are a legend my PS4 PRO is now super quiet 🎮
Thanks!
Question, what paste did or do you use? can i use the same paste as for my pc processor? Because i have some left of that.
Thank you I haven’t tried to run it yet but it was so dusty thanks for the tutorial
I’m scared I’m gonna break it when I’m at Sony part is the hardest to do
Thanks m8, this is exactly what I needed.
I just found i spider nest in my ps4 WTF
Persian cellphone prince omg really? Wtf? I guess it makes sense cause the ps4 is hot 😂
I dont wanna open it up anymore thank you😂
Ain't ur ps4 anymore, its ours now
*communism intensifies*
@@titamuncher Gahahahah 😂😂😂😂 You sir made my day! hahahha
This is insanely useful, especially when i play warzone it sounds like a jet
you can just use a q-tip if you don’t have the air bottle. it worked just as well!
Got right to the point. Great video
ITS WAS SO HARD TO TAKE IT OFF. I Sounded like it broke lmfao, I thought I broke it.
Bruh I can't get the left side open, my fingers are purple and I think I broke it
@@umad5687 same for me, the left side was a pain in the ass. You need to apply a lot of force, but not too much to break it.
Anyways its a plastic panel, it shouldnt cost very much.
@@TechyyGD YOOOOO IT WORKED
@@umad5687 EYYYYY
Guys, my dad spun the fan with his while fixing it. Is that bad?
