    Thank you Tasos, great video. This will probably help someone in the future - your videos like this helped me fix my cam adjusters on my M156 with new plates.

    What did we learn from Tasos working on the M157 engines? Upgrade pistons/rods and sleeve the block if you’re gonna upgrade them 700hp+ 1100nm

    I'm working on a 14 m157 with only 6k km that has a loud a warm start clicking for first 4secs from the right timing chain. Bone stock.
    I thought these newer ones have the updated tensioners and check valves? Have you seen this issues in the 2014+ m157?

      @Patrick Tran interesting, I'm sure some noises can match different symptoms. On this particular car I was talking about it turned out to be the passenger tensioner. Check valves were installed but even as a 2014 it had one of the older models of tensioners

    Wouldn’t the 4.7 m278 be a better factory shortblock for turbo upgrades and higher boost, due to smaller, lighter pistons and a shorter stroke?

    I have a question, I replaced my driver side intake adjuster (I know, I should have took everything apart) however, after replacing it, it seems the driver side bank is off by a tooth or 2. If I line up the cams through the cam sensor holes, they line up pretty close to being centered, but not the etchings, only driver side seems off by 1-2 teeth? You mentioned about variance or tolerance, do I need to rip everything down or what do you think? I am also recording this, so maybe my mistake can help someone else also once I get it fixed. 2014 E350 M276

    Hello Tasos-
    Very informative. Recently picked up 13 E63 with P30. Who do you recommend for tuning? Car has 30k miles.

    Tasos, the architecture on this engine looks very similar to a m156! Do they share any common components, block or heads? Many thanks

      Unfortunately no, M157 is open deck with a softer cinder wall, connecting rods also tend to bend . Most notorious issue is the cylinder scoring, and bending connecting rods. TBH M157 is a step backward compared to M156.

    Hi Tasos, for 53 degrees its not always the right way, because disc could spin on camshaft.

      How many reading plates have you found that turn out of their position?
      Let me tell you how many I have found out of 100+ engines, the answer is 0.
      I'm talking about M157 engine with range from 100 km to 300,000 km tuned/stock

      Couple of m276 and m274 with bad cam adjusters,on intake usually

      AHTOHmd-And what is the right way?in WIS is check timing plates on 53degrees and when you dont have there 53 degrees you must cut tape and stick it from 40degrrees back i think 1,5cm and that is 53 degrees, when disc is spinned on camshaft you must change camshaft becose disc are pressed on camshafts on m157 m278, i dont see in my life spinned disc and i work for mercedes 14 years

      @AHTOHmd 3 года назад +3

      @@patrikcvik3785 The right way is to make those lines on adjusters point the bolts on tightener like Tasos do,and after that little magic on the disc to put it in the right place and no need to change camshaft. I work on Mercedes for 15 years by the way.

      By the way Tasos,on m276 turbo on driver side I put like you showed on m278 but it wasn't right, it needs both camshafts one teeth forward. On passenger side it's the same as 278.
