John Brzenk in his prime had an even stronger thumb, stronger top roll, stronger hook, stronger side pressure and stronger back pressure. He was an all rounder. Even now at his age, he is still dominating.
All fingers are important for armwrestling. But training the thumb is harder compared to other fingers with conventional exercises. That's why the thumb is left out. Strong pinky and ring finger is super important for hook pullers. Thumb and index finger is super important for toprollers.
I've never arm wrestled. Never watched an event in person. Still, if anybody asked me who was the most dominant athlete of all time. John's name is top of my list.
I remember all the talks about John's thumb and pronating through the thumb so it has been in my secret training list for a while. Don't understand why it became so popular only recently.
There's no exercise better than doing armwrestling. I tested everything and from pure armwrestling I was progressing the fastest. You not only get stronger and more adaptable, but you also master your techniques.
About a year ago, inspired by that video you included here, I bought one of these forearm rings and cuz I work a desk job and have down time at moments and I just pump my thumb like in the video, all day every day, no consistent reps, sets or rests, just at random when I don't have anything particular to do, and I gotta say, people that used to be able to hold my hand comfortably, now when I close my thumb say that it's either really hard to contain my pronation or they just feel powerless from the very start. It really works, buts you cant just rely on the thumb alone, you have to have every other base strength to go with it imho
One of the number 1 exercise for arm wrestling is pull ups, 1 or 2 sets of hammer curls and 1 set of arm curls for 20 to 50 reps. I Also would work out on a arm wrestling machine like Travis B. back in the good old days! God bless!
3:20 ahh thats the closeline Eric was telling them not to film in the video with bowen, interesting, i had a feeling it would be something like this setup are those converyour belt cylinders holding the nylon rope ?
I'm skinny as fuck, but my thumb muscles are massive, people always ask if I have an injury because they look swollen, guessing it comes from a mixture of hobbies and work, my job requires good clamping force and grip, and my hobbies of mountain biking, which involves digging the trails and I also do some climbing. Maybe I should man up and join a local AW club, scared of injuries though.
Now I know why my left hand is stronger than my right hand because I do the static hold with stronger than me thanks for this video now I will apply this to my right hand
Yea I think he had it on his IG story one time a couple years ago. But I think he would use either a tennis ball or egg shaped thing and just do tons of reps with his thumb.
I think his thumb is one unique part of his arsenal. I think the most unique part of his arsenal is how is childhood forearm injury healed and allowed him to later on catch people in hooks or posts, way above his weight class. I don’t think the 2009 Cyplekpv super match would have looked so dominant had John Brzenk not grown this type of arm-lock, if you will, among many other matches of course.
I remember that video John had on his RUclips channel, he was in his office and “joke” about the best excercise for armwrestling , he was using a yellow stress ball, pressing it only with his thumb! I wonder why he deleted it!!!
I used to play travel basketball with this kid who was only like 5’8” 160lbs, his hands were average size but his thumbs were ridiculous in comparison. They looked like Denis’ thumbs honestly, just on a much smaller frame lol.
hey, someone can tell me what he said when he said "bench press, curls etc etc". i didn't understand that part because i am not native speaker and i'm trying to get it at all.. he said that john did bench press and curls? thanks
I remember seeing this video, I bought a stress ball right away and it seems like it's working Maybe the video was deleted because it was filmed at his job? He was in a camera security room
I swear only in armwrestling you can have someone like John who is almost 60 having monsters like Irakli redline, he had to pull out a press to beat him because Irakli’s hand had nothing on Johns.
Oh I've said it for years, the best training for arm wrestling is too arm wrestle...maybe that's why some of us (myself included) are so bad at it lol we have nobody to really train with.
Lmao You're almost a year late. I know exactly what it is and it's not the rubber ring. It's a forward pressure with the thumb, then a squeezing pressure Repeat x5:00
Can you make a video about Toddzilla's speed days? For me it's also a kind of unpopular but great training. I also saw smth similar in the Allen Fisher's video when he applied some sudden and quick pressure on his joints.
I can't imagine how it must have felt 4:02
What an honour to be able to highfive john
whoever did that is probably a really cool guy
@@PerformanceEnhancingPancakes Devon is doing these thumb exercises because he sees himself pulling Denis next.

What did he say and do also what did he use to grow his thumb plsss tell me am desperate 😊
Great video Devon makes these little exercises enjoyable he's hilarious. My co workers think I'm a lunatic because I walk around squeezing my ring lol
You are a lunatic. Good for you.

Cool to see longer videos from you brotha! 💪💪
Thanks brotha!! ;)
Coach John Brzenk still have a super strong hand at his age now💪
Big thumbs up for making this vid.
Thanks for watching brother!
Old John is like old Wolverine. Maybe not in his prime, but still more formidable and dangerous than most.

The thumb helps his cup strength because it gives him a large leverage advantage
... something you won't see on a gym lift with a handle.

Another banger of a video, keep it up man!
5:30 what was the name of this tool ?? 🙄🤔🤔
3:58 here it is. Its his thumb (training)
dennis looks like an actual monster
Importance of thumb will increase in the sport . Devon injected stem cells in his thumb.
arm wrestling someone weaker using two arms against you is really good
The 2 hand then 1 hand training is like doing drop sets w/weights. Do them both!
3:20 ahh thats the closeline Eric was telling them not to film in the video with bowen, interesting, i had a feeling it would be something like this setup
are those converyour belt cylinders holding the nylon rope ?
Make a video on how to do a “can opener”
I live off of Wolf Canyon... John Brzenk is our neighbor
My uncle was a lumberjack all his life, no one could beat him even as an old man.
Great breakdown!!
Long format videos have been a killer!
The only video I saw him doing this was with a stress ball not a ring like that...
Are you sure you saw him with this rubber thing ?
yes it was a stress ball, I think either one would work though.
@@PerformanceEnhancingPancakes Stress ball would allow to do more volume. Rubber might be more suited for strength. I guess a mix of both cant hurt 😅
Just use adjustable grippers or a certain position on a normal gripper directly on the thumb muscle

Yea it’s a lot of fun and good friendly fun with everyone help you get better. Just understand you won’t be strong for a long while. It’s consistency.
If you pull smart, then you shouldn't have to worry about injuries outside of general soreness.

Same for me. My bicep and thumb is most important. This is something I think Ermez lacks. A good thumb
I wonder how long kot takes for Devon
