Try bamf single shore. Include rig weight and pick for the correct tire, no tuning needed as they are printed for each tire. And vent the sidewall.

Thanks for your opinions and trying to be as objective as you can with this test. And thanks to the other folks in the comments for their input as well. It's good to see that I'm not the only one who's tried something other than foam inserts based on someone else's suggestion and had less than stellar results. I'll be paying attention to see how others fare as well, because this is a topic that I am truly interested in. I'll use anything that I can use while still being fair to those I'm crawling with to help make my crawling more enjoyable and less frustrating.

Matt, I love your 'I'm just here to Crawl' attitude and your search for excellence. I respect your conscientious approach!
I don't have the answers either but you know IRL you get that 'bounce' also. That doesn't matter in scale crawling, right? Just Results!
I really like the way inserts shape tires and are easy to install, side-hilling and all that. I can vent them and still get them wet.
I've only got a couple sets of Crawler Innovation foams and I don't think they're sized correctly. It's so expensive buying a bunch of things trying to get the right combination. Maybe I gave up too soon but I've got a lot of tires.
I like running inserts that are 'too small' for the tire. They feel weird but really perform while still supporting the sidewalls.
I want to try a hybrid, glue about 3/8" of foam on the outside of a small insert. I think that might be the ticket.
I hope you find your answers! I'll be watching so I can copy them.

    • @2fmrc
      @2fmrc  День назад

@@RTmadnesstoo yeah I think that could work as well. Exocaged has some made for that. Glue a foam to the outside of the print but I kinda figure if I’m trying to get a good outer foam which usually isn’t a stock foam then also buy a printed inner ring I’m just gonna be spending twice the money for almost the same result. I also don’t feel like any of the printed materials give you any sidewall bite where as the inner foam on a dual stage will give some and bite while still keeping a good sidewall on side hill lines. I ordered another set of inserts and the tuning rods for the anti foams so I’ll definitely be doing more testing soon lol

Best video I’ve seen on RUclips for a while. Great content! Give your opinion and then back it up with the video. I’ve done a lot of tyre tests (check my vids) and one thing I’ve learned is that I can’t pick what insert will work in any given tyre. I think there is so many variables with the type of rig, weight, surface type etc. I’m sure that I’ve simply fluked some, but some tyre I just can’t get to work with any insert. I usually use Fimonda or Injora silicon inserts or Injora dual stage foam. I’ve had really good results with the silicon inserts in most tyres, but not all. The popular 3D printed inserts are too expensive to ship here in Aus so I’ve only tried locally printed inserts, which were way too stiff. I actually like swapping inserts around trying them. It’s a great feeling when you find the right insert and tyre combo. Keep up the great work, loved this video!

This is one of the things I have had the most trouble with.
I have found every vehicle is a different tune depending on weight, balance, tire and wheel. I won't use any insert that doesn't stay tight on the wheel ring, no side to side slide. I like a firm sidewall support, and the outer has to be soft enough to give me a good contact patch. Truck weight is a huge variable. I hated printed inserts until just recently. They are great if they are for an exact tire and truck weight.
Joe, at Exocaged, has my favorite so far with his cheat code inserts. Firm inner with a directional outside that allows you to tune the firmness by reversing the insert. They work great on the right setup. Good luck buddy!

Another thing I've noticed is with printed inserts you have to use more weight in the front.
And for them to work just right you have to match the weight perfectly to the insert.
Foams are way more forgiving, but not water proof.
Foam wraps around the smallest point.
Push one finger into a Foam and the tire will wrap around your finger.
Push one finger on a printed insert and tire and you'll see a scoop.. type shape.
    Like a bowl shape.
It doesn't conform like Foam does..
In cold weather- foams are a must.
I'd like to try the Halo foams cause theybare water proof.

I recently tried the knock off dual stage off Amazon (Timtins) in Ruptures and honestly they seem just as good.
I need to get out and do a head to head test.

  • @archerash6695
    @archerash6695 2 дня назад

Bamf Inserts are not bad. But you gotta buy super soft and soft cause sometimes the front is to heavy for super soft.
Nothing conforms like foam - hands down.
I honestly think the best combo is a hybrid, a printed center thst does collapse with enough pressure and a foam outter.
I made some with the Rupture stock foam as the outer and they rock.
Plus you can make your outter smaller or larger..
And.. it fits a bigger selection of tire , using foam as an outer that is..
The reason I stick with Bamfs is because they are water proof.
    Tired of wet foams..
Printed Bamfs (soft) are nice because of the firm edge.
I can do more technically lines with printed inserts.
Bamf soft in the front, super soft in the back, that way your rear tires grab and push you up helping your front.
    Learnt alot about that combo..
Front tires that collapse very easily are a hindrance for technically driving.
You can't do as many advanced moves with front inserts to soft

I myself who is a big time comp guy AND fun line guy. I only run 3d printed in trail trucks cause they’re waterproof. I do not like 3d printed in my comp/lcg trucks because they bounce too much. Or when they are bound up at gates they “react” and bounce back to shape so quickly they knock me off my lines or off ledges. But I do think you should also give ALT Foams a try, I like them a lot. I prefer 3D printed, but I make them (design and print) myself, so I get them perfect for the vehicles and tires I run. I have had good results running dual stage foams or dual stage with hairbuns as well, but 3D printed wins pretty much every time.
I make bespoke 3D printed inserts (BrorB RC inserts) for a lot of people that do comps, locally and in the rest of Norway, and they very much prefer my inserts to the dual stage or single stage they used to run. Like they'll be up against someone with a very similar rig, using the same tires, but with foams, and my inserts will dominate.
Most of the guys I make inserts for run like Pro, P-scale and sporty rig stuff, so bit more "advanced" than your regular crawler or trail truck. Feedback from people that run my regular 3D printed dual stage, dual compound inserts in "normal" rigs, have been equally good though. :)

Joe Collins from ExocagedRC 3D prints his own inserts and has run them. They seem to run pretty good. Probably about as good as your dual stage foams. I'd say possibly his Pro Codes would be comparable to your dual stages. He uses the original foams from the tires and trims them out to fit along with his printed insert. But I also think his Chest Codes may be good too. They both seem to conform fairly well. I think you should give them a try. I'm planning on buying a set of one or the other.

For my 5lb Ecto and my 3lb UTB18, I've had better luck with CI foams. I haven't found too many inserts that work well for rigs 5lbs or less. I just assemble my wheels submerged in a bucket of flat Mountain Dew. It gives the tires a good bit of weight. When some leaks out they get extra sticky on the rocks.
Seriously though, could you help me pick out a tire for my C10 ? I have some super scale Goodyear Wranglers on it now. They are not vented, and they don't hook up well. I feel like you just strait up don't have the right inserts. I have tuned all of mine and yes the odd bump is bouncy but all around I would say mine perform better than when I run dual stage foams. @@2fmrc I have not tried those tires. I use SL3D squids and they work great in the green 2.2 lp tusks and my proline crawlers g8 with a heavier titanium tube buggy. It weighs bout 8.5 lbs so I got some stiffer inserts for the dry condition setup and I just used his stock setup with tuning rods in the second stage with my tusks for wet slippery conditions. My vrd carbon I'm probably around 4.5 lbs and I run the stock setup with tuning rods in the second stage and well broke in hyrax predators typically all the time. I do have a set of 1.9 tusks but I usually find the hyrax have been doing much better than anticipated now that they are almost warn out. Both rigs I have run with a guy that runs ruptures with hair buns and by far has the most traction out of any of us and these hyrax typically run the same tines every time. I get him on side hills and downhill turns usually. All rigs have had much time spent tuning. I also have a set of 1.9 ruptures on dual stage but only bring them out once in a while. I see a few people are experimenting with open cell soft foams on the first stage and a dished out printed insert for the second stage. I would like to try a set of these eventually as they seem to do better than dual stage on the side hill and downhill turns but you get that nice dead feel of the open cells. The rare occasion I will get some tire bounce but I find if I can slow down my wheel speed, I can't typically crawl the same line. Also in your first test it looks like your rears were biting too hard and your fronts were not soft enough in the first stage on the inserts. Idk. I'm just feeling it out as I go. Maybe you are on another level than me as well. Hard to say.
