  • I've quit my job, moved out of my house and started living full time in my self converted Ford Transit campervan.
Here's an insight into what it's like being a fulltime vanlifer during winter in the New South Wales Blue Mountains.
Just a short video from this day. If you've been watching my videos, you may notice this one is out of sequence. I planned to upload it a few weeks ago but had some issues. Since this was a very unique area to visit, I wanted to share it anyway.
This is the Gardens of Stone State Conservation Area, just north of Lithgow in NSW. I spent a night in the Bungleboori Camp Ground and rode my bike out to the Lost City. I have a lot of exploring to do in this area so plan to return later in the year.

Wow , spectacular sandstone landscape. Didn’t even know that place existed. I’ll have to check it out. Awesome

Yeah, quite amazing and the formations like that stretch for hundreds of KMs north of Lithgow. I think there's better places than this one further north. I want to get there soon !

How far was the ride from the van? Is it a 4x4 track , I have a 4x 4 but I’m only a beginner.
Or can you walk the track?

So the Lost City is about 5km from the campground and the road is very easy. I could have driven my van down there with no problems, so you will be fine. There's no phone reception out there so get Google maps set up before leaving Lithgow.
I'd advise stopping at the top of the hill where all the campers were near the Lost City then walking the last bit. It's only about 500m or so, but you can see it from there anyway. The really rocky section I was riding on is blocked off for cars anyway.

Amazing scenery, like Australia's version of Machu Picchu 🤣

Hahaha....about as close as we get to it! The rock formations cover a massive area around Lithgow. Lots more to see once the weather gets warmer.

Good one. MTB to the Lost City is always a good one. Are you doing the Vanlife solo? I thought your other half would have joined you.

@@fatmanoverlanding yeah, it doesn't agree with everyone. On the plus side, it's no limits for me now. 😁

You picked probably the worst place to camp up there. It's bogan central where you are. So many quiet places further in.

😂 trust me to pick the worst spot. As you said, there's plenty of other options. Next time will be better!

Very true! But that's why it taken me 30 years to get to this point. Dedicated saving pays off in the very long term 😁
