Thank you so much it’s such a precise teaching clear and neat technic I’m a beginner who had fear of sowing zipper for a sofas cushions your method it’s extremely thankful 🥰🥰🥰🥰🙏🏻
No not really, we like the continuous zip on a roll that we can cut to size and none of our suppliers carry it like that. We may pick up a small piece for a video if we have time in the future.
@@premierupholstery-upholste90 That would be awesome, thank you! I really like the continuous coil thought with the stitching on the sides, it looks sharp.
@@GlendaDavis-q6w ok that’s great to know, will try to make a video as soon as we can to show how we would work out fabric sizes and cuts. Thank you for watching this video and the feedback!
Hey, I do my zips more or less the same way as you do with a few minor differences. It's a great method for lining up plaids or patterns. Top stitching with the bobbin thread is frowned upon by some but If your machine is sewing properly then I defy anyone to tell the difference 👍
Mackenzie Upholstery yeah works a treat, I find it great for really long ones especially when I had some 3mtr ones to do, like you said as long as machine is working right can’t tell
@@premierupholstery-upholste90 yep, I usually run each side through the machine twice. The first pass is to get close to the teeth and then the second pass is the top stitch. I find doing a first pass makes the top stitch easier as it more or less falls into place. The only other different thing I do is cut my zips longer and adjust the panels once the slider is on. We are both singing from virtually the same song-sheet though 🙂. Hope business is good for you. Cheers 👍
zippers intimidate me so much.. I need to sew a zipper into a big bolster.. so do you put your zipper onto these small pieces and then sew that into the area where the zipper needs to do?
Hi and thanks for watching, here is a video showing how to make a simple holster cushion including the zip ruclips.net/video/xSiqyf4lenA/видео.htmlsi=MuxtTIKtshVCoxu4 hopefully this will help, feel free to ask any more questions
Novice here. So if you have a 4 inch foam how wide should you be cutting that piece to include allowances as the video shows you measured 5 inches. So then your only allowing a 1/4 inch for folding?
Thanks for watching, If we’re using 4inch foam we want the border of the cover to finish at 3inch so it’s a nice tight fit when the foam is put in, if you make it the same size it looks baggy and loose, we use 1/2 inch sewing allowance so if the border is cut at 4 we cut the zip at 5. Hope that helps 😄
Hi, thanks for watching. Yes it’s continuous on a roll and you just cut to the required length. We buy from our suppliers but unless you want an entire roll it would be worth speaking to a local upholsterer and asking if they’ll sell you a few mtr with some zip sliders.
Hi and thank you for watching our videos. For the length we tend to make it long enough to stretch about 1/4 to 1/3 around the side of the cushion. For the turnover where the zipper sews in we allow 1/2” each side so 1” total extra compared to the border when cutting it out.
@@premierupholstery-upholste90 So if your boxing (border) is a total of 5 inches wide, you'll cut the zipper part at 6 inches wide to allow for the fold over that the zipper is sewn to AND the seam allowance. So 1/2" for fold on each side of zipper and 1/2" for each seam allowance. Am I understanding that correctly? It sounds like that's used on any size zipper? Thank you so much, this is so helpful!
@@hdb80 you’re very welcome and thank you for watching and the feedback. Yes that’s completely correct and you should end up with a 4” border when all sew together. 1/2” tends to be the usual allowance advised for most fabrics so in general it’s what most upholsters use.
Hi and thank you for watching. The music hid the radio in the background to stop copy write issues and also the noise of machines but general consensus is to not use music so we won’t use it in future videos 👍🏼
Yes we understand some people don’t like the music. We will record new videos when we have time and explain it in person to try and make it easier. Till then you’ll have to mute and put on some banging tunes of your own 👍🏼
I understand that some people do not like to talk in their videos, but it is really hard to try to learn something with music (especially horrible music) in the background. So that is why this is a thumbs down for me...
No problem, thank you for watching anyway, we will be making more videos which include talking now we know how to make RUclips do subtitles, until then you can always turn the volume down or mute and put some banging tunes on 👍🏼

You blew my mind when you split that zipper. I'll try it on my project, after sampling with a test zipper. I'm sure I'll be sweating bullets.

No this is the piping foot, sometimes we don’t change the feet for small jobs and this works really well for zips so it’s easier to keep it on
Great how to! Found it too late -can hear the breathing 😝
