I’m not a game developer, but I am a writer and I’ve been trying to write my first novel and no matter how much prep you do, it always feels like jumping into a terrifying void. It’s comforting to know that sentiment is shared across many creative fields.
That's awesome! I also am a writer and boy is that taxing. I find it so hard to stay motivated with novels
@@ViciousLegacyGameAUS I'm a software developer and also want to write a novel. I spent a lot of time creating a website that allows me to write and create "entities" that I can attach information to and allows me to rename very quickly or pin to the side as I write since I don't want to come up with names for characters or places and have to find/replace every time I change my mind haha. I should've spent that time on actually writing.
Great work! I also wanted to create a game using unity and seeing this I can fully appreciate how hard it is to accomplish what you just did! I spent more than a week trying to just create a standard 3rd person controller...
I'm trying to write a pitch deck to sell a show. I'm the opposite I struggle compiling all my notes and outlines and rough drafts succinctly into a finished product with intros and outros
@@ViciousLegacyGameAUS and your genre is?
I wonder what genres are you writing in.
I am storytelling in my favourite RPG game and have periods without the muse too. :)
Making a game and document the progress from the very start?? Awesome endeavour!
Really hoping you manage to keep moving forward and taking your viewers on a journey with you with these dev logs. I adore how you included the silly artifacts, they're often fond memories we can look back on that make us chuckle and remind us of what we faced and conquered. I'm not doing game dev professionally, but watching this reminds me of when I dabbled in proc gen, taking deep dives into games like Minecraft and even Dwarf Fortress. The math sometimes hurts though!
I can see a larger-than-life battle mechanic in here, where your actions affect parts of the world directly, e.g. clear or spread something like a plague, requiring generations worth of effort to advance in such a goal. Perhaps not limit yourself to just video games, and taking inspirations from board games such as Kingdom Death Monster or maybe even some things from Frosthaven.
In any case, liked and subscribed, would love to track your progress and see this grow :)
I'm really glad you enjoyed it :) I love the way you write, and I'm glad I was able to bring back a memory or two. I will definitely not be stopping this project any time soon and I'm keen to show it warts and all as I go
@@ViciousLegacyGameAUS It seems really promising. Hope you can finish it because it also seems like the kind of game me and a lot of other people would love.
@@ViciousLegacyGameAUS Oh yea and if your islands take too long to render you could do something where they are covered in clouds obscuring them while the island is rendered.
I never thought I'd find another Kingdom Death: Monster enjoyer in the wild
Looks amazing! I vaguely remember you describing something like this back at uni.
Uni?
@@surajraika7821university, where you get your degree/master degree etc
Your procedural generation system is amazingly simple and powerful! Keep up the good work!
Thanks so much!
It’s always good to see Australian developers trying their hand, I’ll keep an eye on this project can’t wait to see the final product.
what does it matter where the dev is from?
@@icebite9888 Presumably because he's also Australian.
Unity's water system actually includes a water excluder by default. They show it in the water system tutorial on the official Unity channel.
Welp, that would have saved some time 😅
When my team did a battle royale for our senior college project, that water system wasn't in place at all. We tried to get some kind buoyancy system working and couldn't. In the end we just used vehicle bodies and drove the ships around the map.
I like how you make this devlog so calm and at same time interesting
i watched you video 10 times but every time i watch it I get goosebumps, I don't know what it is but i get a peaceful feeling.
Fantastic concept, looking forward to your future videos !
Thank you! :)
the concept sounds sick! super excited to follow the development and see where it goes!
Speaking from someone who is currently indesign and working in 3D rendering programs. This is awesome dude. I'm so glad youre showing us the process - I subbed immediately. In addition, your voice is way too good 💜
Another solo full time unity dev here! This is extremely inspiring and I can't wait to see the rest. Best of luck and may burn out stay far away from you my friend. Subbed!
This is fascinating work and you explain everything so clearly! Can’t wait for the next ep! Thoughts & prayers for your keyboard, it gave so much 🥲
Thanks! Ol' clicky knew the risks going in
Awesome. Definitely going to follow your progress. Experienced dev making a procedural generation game is the golden goose of youtube devlogs =D
Thanks so much! :)
This looks great so far. Love the concept and love the inspiration that comes from seeing other people's devlogs. Can't wait to watch the progress!
Your game and the entire concept is phenomenal. When it comes out I can already see my self diving into it.
This is already looking great! I always love seeing more procedurally generated projects. I haven't thought about "Little Devil Inside" in so long.
Just stumbled upon this video, this was really chill and inspirational
I've been trying to work on myself as a game dev too, this looks really good so far and hope you make it till the final vision you have for your game
Gonna be following this. Good luck on your journey!
Great video man! Thanks for sharing with us your progress!
I’ve been experimenting in gamedev since mid last year. Last week I started on my dream game project and now I’m seeing your work! You’re amazing and way better than me! Good luck. I hope you finish!
As a learning game dev myself, good for you, mate. That's one heck of an idea you have, and I love your art style.
I'm subbed and along for the ride. What a pleasure it is to watch someone build their dream game. We can all hope to be in this position!
Don't burn yourself out, set small goals within big ones, and good luck! ❤
What a cool concept!
Looking forward to see more devlogs
The game idea is really good, I am really excited for the next devlog!!!
a lot of potential here, excited to see where it goes!. This look awesome - love the water effects!.
This is way cool! Great job, I hope you continue this journey of game development!
This looks awesome, and your delivery was great. I enjoy calm and slightly funny devlogs and yours fits the bill!
This showed up on my front page and it looked so interesting I just assumed this was a very late-development devlog.
You’ve got such a strong start here, can’t wait to see more devlogs !
These kind of videos are zen for me. Love it. Excited to see more.
Incredible progress for the first devlog! And Incredible quality for the first video [on this channel]
There's one thing that battlebit taught many people in regards to games in this day and age... As long as it has a smooth functionality, it's a good game... regardless the bloxy apperence that dates to decades of regression in graphics.
I love the idea of this game... really hope to see more of it progressing.
What you are doing is actually what I’d love to see in most of my games. The learning side of things. So I gave you follow :)
It's so awesome to see many people jump into game dev and documenting their progress. More game devs are always appreciated because the tech we currently have is really cool and accessible! I'm excited!
Just something special about this, just 30 sec in and already subbed. Keep it going, you're awesome dude!
I love it, I’ve recently started to try to make my own game with little experience and have been struggling a lot throughout, and I am glad to see someone else also starting a new game. It feels good to be daunted by what’s to come in development with others alongside me. Keep up the good work
Awesome job . Defs keen to see how you go with this project . All the best and your idea for the game is solid and sounds really enjoyable .
You inspire me deeply, I can't put to words how this video made me feel. Your work lights a fire under me but also makes me realize how much learning I need to do and how far I have to go to become great. Thank you
Thank you so much for your kind words :) as I say in the video, the goal is to inspire other developers who might be worried about putting themselves out there. I believe in you!
This look awesome - love the water effects!
Thank you very much! 😁
Best of luck on your developing adventure! I hope to see more progress in the future~
and great job on your Devlog, (of course!) you explained everything very well
Looks dope, your game is right up my alley! looking forward to future devlogs!
Very excited to see where this goes! Have just started my own game project and its always inspiring to see others doing the same. Good luck and I can't wait to see the next Devlog
I hope you continue with this it looks very promising!
Good luck! Can't wait to see what you put out next bro
Love the concept, I would love to see longer more in depth videos.
Great video. I love the look of this game and look forward to seeing the rest of the Devlog. 👍
This game is a great idea, I wish you a lot of luck with this project. I will be here to support you along the way
looks very good so far, keep up the good work.
I'll be keeping an eye out for your videos once a month, I am extremely intreged in what you've got cooking, looks like its gonna be really cool when it's ready.
Love the concept! Looking forward to your next devlog!
I think that documenting your journey is awesome for even if you don't succeed, you still haven't wasted your time, since you provided value with your videos. best of luck!
Mate this is amazing and you're no doubt setup for a long difficult road, but I have subscribed! And I am here for it
I love the art! Excited to see what you create following your journey!
This game has a super interesting concept please continue making it! (Also your editing style is fine)
Great stuff buddy. Keep it up!
oh boy there goes another devlog #0 video. anyway ill be waiting for the next part and happy to see this project progressing, good luck.
Love how it’s looking already. Keep it up! Definitely want to see the full developed game
looking fantastic so far, I'd play this, good luck on the dev journey I think you'll make it
Wow man! This really inspired me to start my own unity journey! Awesome! I can’t wait to see where this goes
This is awesome, keep up the good work!
Great start. Can’t wait to see where this goes.
Awesome video! Awesome game concept! Awesome progress! Keep moving forward bro!
Just found your channel and I have to say I can relate, I'm currently trying to build a procedurally generated open world rpg as a one-man developer and boy does it come with struggles! Push through friend, I'm sure you'll achieve your goal. Making sure to subscribe to see your progress!
Thanks for the support! Yeah it's definitely a lot, but I guess we've gotta eat the elephant
I started a sailing project too around a month ago and always struggled to get the buoyance to work, I'm glad you got it down where I couldn't! I hope all goes well with your project!
a lot of potential here, excited to see where it goes!
Dredge quickly became one of my favorite games of all time, so seeing you draw inspiration from that instantly has me excited to see this game shape up!
Awesome stuff, I love the vibes of the game and your voice and narration style is so relaxing and soothing.
You're doing it! Keep going! I subscribed to keep an eye on your progress. I'm looking forward to playing your game some day! Be well, and good luck!
Interesting and exciting idea! Will be keeping up with the progress!
This is awesome man, looking forward to the next ep
This looks like a very interesting task to take on. I wish you the best and hopefully one day the game is released and I'll be able to experience your vision.
Good luck!
People usually don't like documentation but they don't know that it helps scales your game with other devs, it helps your own thinking about the code, I am really happy youre documenting the process, it really pays off.
Great video mate! Love the idea and can't wait to see more!
Very cool! thank you for sharing so much about your thoughts and process :)
Yessss, I love being able to hop on early and see the progress unfold with a project like this. Keep going buddy, you've got something beautiful here :D
W.A Represent!!! This looks awesome and you've clearly got a lot of experience behind you. Keep it up, I can't wait to see where this goes. Hopefully I'll see you at some games events in Perth!
keep em coming
if you keep making these you'll get somewhere, because it is a very strong start
This is really cool. Keep it up, mate.
One of the best devlogs I’ve seen in a while.
Thanks so much :)
this is what type of videos I want.....so relaxing while learning
This looks like an excellent start to the game. Good luck!
Ooooo this looks so interesting!! I can't wait to see what else you add
Loving this, can't wait to see the journey
intro got me, subbed at sec 25! also stunning artwork 👍
Super cool man, looking forward to it!
Im starting my game development journey at 18 as I am heading into university and will be majoring in design and media informatics. Im exicted that I get to share this journey with people like you and hopefully get to see everyone succeed. Good luck on your journey and can't wait to see this game in the market.
Dude this is amazing! Can't wait to see your progress, already picking up ideas and tips for my own game I've had cooking for the last year. Subbed!
After so many years I'm willing to give a bunch of creative content another shot, it's just pretty insane that without searching for any game dev vlogs (specifically) or anything remotely close to it in the creative spectrum the mighty algorithm sent me here, to a fresh channel with a fresh journey that in one world line is something I'd want to try.
Really excited for you, the scope sounds awesome! Will be heaps of fun being along for this ride. Plus, was refreshing to find some good dry aussie humour. Put us on the map my guy, can't wait to see what Vicious Legacy will become in the near future
This looks like a really interesting project. I'm also quite a sucker for procedurally generated stuff, so I'm going to follow your project :)
Awesome Devlog and very interesting game you've got brewing. I am super stoked to follow along with your journey and can't wait to get my hands on the game one day in the future :)
The idea sounds awesome. Good luck!
Wow, the graphics look amazing. You did much better job then I do with my own games. Great job and congrats to you.
I fell in love with the vision of your game right of the bat, looking forward to devlog 1!
Thanks so much :) devlog 1 in the works. Hopefully out around July 15th ish
Thanks for making this video, your presentation style is great, and the project looks promising. Best of luck!
Thank you very much :)
Cool stuff! keep em going whenever you feel like it. Buoyancy is fun, I remember doing kinda something similar in Unity after Valheim rigid but glorious water system. As the saying goes: Nobody was born knowing anything at all. Try, don't mind the disdain of some people and never give up. I had a trillion projects like this one and never got to any actual game ever completed nor even entertained the possibility of a devblog (out of embarrassment actually), so know that you are already wining and I consider you a personal hero. Cheers man! Subscribed.
Nice work man, looking forward to seeing what this turns into!
Well done man. Looking great
Before you'd even mentioned sea of thieves, thats the first thing i thought about when you mentioned water... It's kinda insane how amazing their water is on that game.
Thanks for documenting your journey. Can't wait to see where it goes!
Man, this video got me very inspired! To be honest I've also found myself in the same situation. Working with no pay on a game that fits my needs (tabletop cards rpg in this case lol) Well, all I wanted to say is that this video gave me a sense of emphaty for you and your project, it looks very cool and I hope you find time to keep working on it. Good luck!! (new follower here btw)
