I am a single mom of three with a huge corner lot. My sprinkler system was down for a minute, but I finally got it fixed. The guy who fixed it preset it for me, but about 3 months after, we experienced some bad weather and the power went out, so I lost the settings on the sprinkler. It’s getting very hot in Houston, TX and my grass is already trying to dry out. Your video is great for sprinkler dummies like me. It was short and so simplified.I felt like I hit the jackpot when my sprinkler came on. I watched other videos which were too long and too complicated. Thank you ! Thank you ! 😁

Thank you for the video. Could you tell me what the plug icon means? My unit is plugged in. The plug icon is on the left side above the station number.
It means it’s not getting power. Double check that the outlet is in fact working using something you can plug into it like a shop light, vacuum etc. The display will still show with no power, it uses battery power but won’t run the different watering zones.
Thank you Gary, how do you know if the pre set schedules are set. I reset the timer using the reset button and my timer is still going on at weird times?
The preset schedules applies to days not start times. If the time I coming on at weird timer check your start times. (There can be as many as 4 start times per program A,B etc.) make sure those are cleared out. Midnight is used to clear any unwanted start times. Hope that helps, don’t forget to Subscribe it really helps us too.👍
How do you know how many zones you have (I think I have 2)? My landscaper had the front of my set up everyday to come on at 5am until 545am and my back yard from 6am until 645 am. I just checked it today and the time and schedule was way off, I believe because I lost power at some point. So how can I reprogram the same setup as I had before with front yard coming on at a different time than my backyard? I guess I don’t understand how to set the front to come on a different time than the back yard. Thx.
If both zones are in the same program they only need one start time to run them both at different time. Set start @5:00am Zone 1 will run when it’s done zone2 will automatically come on next. It doesn’t need its own start if it’s in the same program. If you remove the bottom panel you will see how many valves are wired up by looking at the colored wires on the numbered screws. 1,2,3 etc. Sometimes people hook up all the wires though, even when there’s only a few zones. You would usually find out how many at that point by looking for the actual valves outside.
Will the preset schedule affect the rest of the timing programs. I have selected custom days and timer will not activate zones. I am Thinking what is set in the preset schedule will affect the rest of the water days.
Just buy an extra length of wire at your local hardware store and splice it to the existing timer wires. Now raise the timer to what ever height you like. Hope that helped, don’t forget to Subscribe to our Channel for more great tips and videos.👍
How do I found out how many zones I have, I set timer and I think they are coming on 2/3x day.. I have front yard ,side yard , and backyard same thing sprinklers.. front looks like it gets over saturated hence why I think they are coming on more than once
If you remove the bottom panel, you will be able to see how many zones are wired to the timer. For start times, turn the dial to start time. It will show the 1st start, then press the next arrow button. It will now show if there’s an additional start time, to remove (scroll up to midnight using the up arrow) repeat this if there’s a 3rd and 4th start time. When finished push the A/B button and repeat to clear any starts in B program that are unwanted. If you get a chance please Subscribe to our Channel it helps us grow.👍

Excellent video ! Maybe someone can help...My E 6c system stopped working so I replaced a solenoid. When I run a manual start on each station, one at a time, the same station turns on every time. Any suggestions?
Rick May when you rewired the valves did you give each solenoid a seperate color wire. Watch my video on rewriting the valves see if that helps if not let me know
I'm trying to select certain days of the week to comply with water company restrictions. Is 1 = sunday or 1 = Monday?? This is key to me getting it right and not hit with a fine. Thanks
I have to admit its been awhile since I've seen this model in the field. I think it just indicates that there is a/c poor detected. I believe if you were to unplug the timer, it would change the icon.
Gary's Sprinkler Repair thanks for quick response Gary, i appreciate it. I did the following: checked the outlet it works so I’ve got electricity. My thought is the unit needs replacing as it will work sporadically for short time periods. But the electrical plug icon still is displayed. I’ve got the manual but it doesn’t troubleshoot any similar situations. I’m in Las Vegas and noticing some plants are wilting so my guess is to replace the unit. All the best, joe.
Gary's Sprinkler Repair i think I’m ok now... I was confused with the start time dial (I removed all but 1 start time). I though it was to program the start time for each zone. I’ve been watching my zones and they do start in sequence (zone 1, then zone 2, etc) which is how I want it. I’m still learning all this. Any recommendations on a Wi-fi programmer system? Thanks!
Changing the bad valve won’t effect timer operation. What is important is that you reconnect the new wires correctly. Also double check that the valve has a programmed water time. Don’t forget to Subscribe ✌️
Turn dial to station run time, Now use the next arrow button to move to the desired station you want to change, use plus or minus button to change time, hit enter, return dial to Auto position. Hope that answered your question, be sure to Subscribe to our Channel for more help.✌️
Best way to check a solenoid is connect the colored wire from a valve that works let’s say#3 to #2 then turn on zone #3 if your valve works then it not a solenoid it’s probably a wire issue.
@@garyssprinklerrepair really appreciate the extra info... Turns out it was the solenoid and all is resolved. Thanks again for your help! Just curious, in the event that I need to/want to replace this E6-c rain bird controll unit with something more modern, do you have any suggestions?
I found this only partly helpful. I have ABC and I don't know what B or C does, are those additional settings to water more often than 1x a day? I moved into this home and there is NO owner's manual. :-( Please provide more info than 1 [A] settings. Thanks.
B and C are if you wanted to water a station or zone at a different time then the rest or on different days than the rest. Ex: A prog stations 1,2,3 lawns water everyday twice except Wednesday when the Lawn people come. B. Program stations 4,5 plants water every other day even Wednesday’s. Program C. Station 6 veg. Garden water twice per week for 1 hour. Now you get it, don’t forget to Subscribe to our Channel.✌️
Turn the dial to test, next press# of minutes using the plus button then press enter return the dial to run. Hope that helps, please take a minute to Subscribe to our RUclips channel it helps us grow. Thanks✌️
@garyssprinklerrepair all stations will run. I need to know which station belongs to what location around house when they built it and installed the landscaping controller
@@SurvivingDivorceForMen if you’re able to find some help run the test program. Together perform a walk around the property to verify what is being watered. When the timer advances to the next zone repeat the process. I’m not sure what else to tell you, unless I’m not understanding the question properly.
@garyssprinklerrepair originally I had 4 zones. Then I capped some sprinkeles off and put concrete patio over it. Now I probably have 2 zones. Need to know which ones are left so it's not trying to water under my concrete patio where I had original sprinkle system
My B and C programs do not turn the water on. A zone works fine. I have even programmed it for Zone A to come on at 2pm and run for 30 minutes Programmed Zone B to come on at 4pm and run for 30 minutes the programmed Zone C to come on at 5pm and run for 30 minutes. Zone A comes on 2 pm runs for 30 minutes and shuts off but zone B and zone C do not come on when at programmed time on the digital display meter nor does it turn the water on. It looks as if the electronics does not call for Zones B and C to Operate. I need a schematic of the electronic PCB and wiring to try and troubleshoot the problem. The display does not show thw ERR signal. I am only running station 1 out of the 6. There is only a solenoid on STN 1 and STN 2.. STN .2 is never Used but comes on if Tested. All Ideas appreciated.
Don’t use the program A,B,C for the different sprinkler zones unless they need to water different days. Put all the zones in A if you want them to come on 1at a time starting @2pm. If you want the different zones to water at different times per day and different day then use ...start time in B for 4 pm and set run time for “that” zone only for 30 min. Then set B Program days of the week as well. Only use C Program if that zone needs different days and times then the other zones in A and B Program
Go to start time hit program button to move to B scroll up with the time until it says off repeat procedure for C program. Hop that helps Subscribe to our Channel if you feel it was useful. Glad to help with any other issues keep me posted😉

I followed your instructions which are very clear, but I have 6 zones in A for appropriate watering days and my drips in B which are everyday. My problem is that although it runs manually it will not start on Auto. I do not have anything set for C. Any ideas?
Turn to day cycle make sure it shows 7 Then go to water days set each day on or off then repeat for send B program. Don’t forget to Subscribe To our Channel it really helps us too ✌️
@@garyssprinklerrepair Thanks. I have done as you said but still it just won't start at the start time entered as if it is not getting the start signal from the clock. I have subscribed :)
Great video! I had a leak in one of the underground lines in zone 1. Repaired the leak and now when I run the auto program it gets stuck in zone 1. The sprinklers in zone 1 stay on continuously until I manually shut off the water at the valve and it doesn't go to the other zones. What's causing that?
Jason Suemoto, if it’s an Irritrol or Lawn Genie valve turning the water on too fast can blow out the diaphragm in the valve. Another mistake most people make is not blowing the PVC shavings out of the pipe before glueing the new valve on. They then get stuck in the new valve and hang it open.
set "start time" only one time, then set station run time for each stations 20 minutes. That means it will start once per day then water each stations (up to 6) for 20 minutes each right? ( the start time 1 to 6 doesnt mean different stations/zones, it means different start time right? I used to set 4 start times because I have 4 zones, I thought start time means for each station, wrong?)
You likely have a short on that zone. If it says err# 3, look down below to the # 3 wire and see what color it is. Then go outside to the valves find the valve with that colored wire. That’s your shorted valve solenoid. It could also be a wire issue, but 90% of the time it’s the solenoid on the valve. Hope that helps, don’t forget to Subscribe to our Channel it helps us too.
Thank you so much! I finally repaired and the Err1 message is gone but noticed the box is filling with water and clearly a leak in pvc pipe so need to dig up the ground and fix leak now lol.
Everything home repair yes, you can. First unplug power from outlet source then, remove the yellow jumper on the sensor screws and install sensor to power and sensor screws. When finished move sensor switch to on. Plug timer back in to outlet.
I accidentally sent a second start time. How can I delete second start time? The directions say to hold the plus or minus until the dashes appear. That doesn’t happen it just adjust the time up or down. How can I delete it out?
Turn the dial to start times then hit the next arrow (swoosh) then press the plus button until you get to midnight. It should disappear. Hope that helps, don’t forget to Subscribe to my channel 👍
No, it stands for the frequency. If it’s set for 7 then you can chose under water days what days on or off in a 7 day week. 1 meaning it will water every one day, 2 it will water every 2nd day etc.
@@garyssprinklerrepair i’m sorry I worded it wrong. I meant to say is number one for Sunday or is that Monday? For the day of week so I know what day to water on if you could, please let me know. Thank you.
I listen to your video but I don’t understand my problem... My Ec6 séries is program this way: The time is set up correctly... Day cycle is 7 Water day is wednesday, Friday and Saturday on the A program... Start time is 1 2:00 2 2:30 3 3:00 4 4:00 Station run time 1 30 min. 2 30 min. 3 60min. 4 30 min. 5 30 min. I’m Lucie from Gatineau, thank you for your help....
Turn dial to start times hit the next arrow now the second time is visible, scroll to midnight time will change to off. Done return dial to run Hope you remembered to Subscribe to my Channel it really helps us grow.😁
That just refers to the A program, B program and C program. They only apply if you’re using them. Most people keep it simple and only use the A program.
They are different programs Let’s say you wanted to not water when the Gardner mows the lawn. You keep the lawns in A prog. And don’t water when they come on Wed. In the B prog. Set the shrubs and trees to water everyday if needed even when the Gardner’s come. It won’t bother them. Hope that helped.
Just moved to a new house, done all the settings needed to be done..no water coming on at all, tried all the methods but nothing seems to be working,i cannot even fine the water valve
Make sure you have electricity at the timer location. Try plugging something else a light etc. Into the outlet, the battery might be showing you a display but doesn’t have enough power to run the different zone valves. Also try looking for the water main on the house, (normally) in an area that a hose could be. If there are two separate shut offs one of them might be off (the irrigation one) Hope that helps, Subscribe for more awesome content 👍

Gary, great video. Question. I have two zones that come on at the same time. Reset the time controller but still doing same thing. Do I need a new controller? Controller is over 12 years old but has been working great until now. Thanks in advance.
Dan Santos great question, most likely the timer is ok but I can tell without using a ohm meter. You could remove the second zone from the timer and try again. If they both still come on not the timer. Most likely wired together at the valves or wires got partially cut in the ground (fence work, plants or trees removed etc.) and both colored wires are now bare and touching so current passes they them both. Hope this helped you feel free to Subscribe to our Channel as we have lots of howto videos.

Good information but my question on my same system it shows icon of electric plug? It works but what does this mean? Thanks joe
I would replace it with an Hunter X-Core
Great tutorial! Short and to the point. Question: is there a way to stagger the zone start time? I want a sequence start not a shotgun start. Thanks!
Explain a bit more for me
Gary's Sprinkler Repair i think I’m ok now... Thanks!
BHyve is a good WiFi timer, I have a video for it.
Great video thanks.so much help
Elizabeth Farebrother thx
I exchanged my control units and new one doesn't make water flow on test or anything. Why? Need to program areas?
Changing the bad valve won’t effect timer operation. What is important is that you reconnect the new wires correctly. Also double check that the valve has a programmed water time.

How do I get rid of a time on a certain station? That way It doesn’t come in?
Turn dial to station run time,
Now use the next arrow button to move to the desired station you want to change, use plus or minus button to change time, hit enter, return dial to Auto position.
Hope that answered your question, be sure to Subscribe to our Channel for more help.✌️
Do you have any instructions how to clear an error code like Err2?... Or will just replacing the faulty valve clear the air as well?
Turn the dial to Auto and press enter after fixing the shorted zone. Hope that helped you out. Hope you remembered to Subscribe to our Channel ✌️
Btw the short is zone#2 (usually a solenoid)
@@garyssprinklerrepair new solenoid should be here tomorrow... I'll swap it out and do the reset. 👍👍 Thanks!
Thanks.
You can Google your timer name and include the words pdf manual.

How to check or test which location is each station? I need to know which station on controller is where in real life around house
Turn the dial to test, next press# of minutes using the plus button then press enter return the dial to run.

How do I take off B and C schedule?
Go to start time hit program button to move to B scroll up with the time until it says off repeat procedure for C program. Hop that helps Subscribe to our Channel if you feel it was useful. Glad to help with any other issues keep me posted😉

My rainbird E6 controller is running each cycle or station 2 times. How do I stop it or reset it to just run 1 cycle 1 time?
Remove the second start time.

Thanks for the video, we live on a town where you can only water on odd/even day (your home address number).how do we set for that? thanks

I followed your instructions which are very clear, but I have 6 zones in A for appropriate watering days and my drips in B which are everyday. My problem is that although it runs manually it will not start on Auto. I do not have anything set for C. Any ideas?
Turn to day cycle make sure it shows 7
Then go to water days set each day on or off then repeat for send B program.

@@garyssprinklerrepair I put a box around every number and it worked :) I must have had the wrong day selected
Thanks for the help.
No problem, common mistake my friend. I’m here to help, stay safe✌️
Jason Suemoto not sure what leak you fixed but if you turn the timer off and it still runs most likely a bad valve. Check out my video on my channel.
Hi Gary, I have 2 zones! Zone 1 comes on but not zone 2 can you tell me why? I followed your instructions to a t?
You might have a bad solenoid on zone 2 or loose wire
Gary's Sprinkler Repair are solenoids easy to replace? Thanks for the quick response
Thanks.

set "start time" only one time, then set station run time for each stations 20 minutes. That means it will start once per day then water each stations (up to 6) for 20 minutes each right? ( the start time 1 to 6 doesnt mean different stations/zones, it means different start time right? I used to set 4 start times because I have 4 zones, I thought start time means for each station, wrong?)
1 start will run all of them, hope that helps. Hope you got a chance to Subscribe to our Channel it helps us grow.👍
Set everything and once turned to Auto it shows ‘Err1’?
You likely have a short on that zone. If it says err# 3, look down below to the # 3 wire and see what color it is. Then go outside to the valves find the valve with that colored wire. That’s your shorted valve solenoid. It could also be a wire issue, but 90% of the time it’s the solenoid on the valve. Hope that helps, don’t forget to Subscribe to our Channel it helps us too.
Thank you so much! I finally repaired and the Err1 message is gone but noticed the box is filling with water and clearly a leak in pvc pipe so need to dig up the ground and fix leak now lol.
@@redrockclimber3296ya, always more fun. Home Depot sell a hand siphon to suck the water out of the valve box.
Can you add a rain sensor to this rain bird timer?
1-7 on the days so number 1 is Monday?
No, it stands for the frequency. If it’s set for 7 then you can chose under water days what days on or off in a 7 day week.
1 meaning it will water every one day, 2 it will water every 2nd day etc.
@@garyssprinklerrepair i’m sorry I worded it wrong. I meant to say is number one for Sunday or is that Monday? For the day of week so I know what day to water on if you could, please let me know. Thank you.

I listen to your video but I don’t understand my problem...
My Ec6 séries is program this way:
The time is set up correctly...
Day cycle is 7
Water day is wednesday, Friday and Saturday on the A program...
Start time is
1 2:00
2 2:30
3 3:00
4 4:00
Station run time
1 30 min.
2 30 min.
3 60min.
4 30 min.
5 30 min.
I’m Lucie from Gatineau, thank you for your help....
You only need one start time
Are you wanting 1 hour 30 minutes duration for zone 1
No my zone are number 1 for 30 min and zone 2 for 30 min and so on......
Gary's Sprinkler Repair why do I have on start time 1-2-3-4 if I need to put only one start time....
And how do I erease the start time on the number 2-3 and 4 please?

I have A B C on my screen. How can I remove those and just run A?
Make sure you have no start times in B or C programs
How to reset the start time ? I accidentally set a second time unable to bring it to the initial phase of all dashes
Turn dial to start times hit the next arrow now the second time is visible, scroll to midnight time will change to off. Done return dial to run

Never delete this.
What is A/ B/C on the screen?
That just refers to the A program, B program and C program. They only apply if you’re using them. Most people keep it simple and only use the A program.
Hello what does AB mean again???
They are different programs
Let’s say you wanted to not water when the Gardner mows the lawn.
If there are two separate shut offs one of them might be off (the irrigation one)
Hope that helps, Subscribe for more awesome content 👍
Where is the am and pm? You blew right past that one. I'm not stupid but I can be a little slow on the uptake
When you scroll the time past midnight it will change the pm to am automatically.
