  • Thyroid Cancer (Papillary, Follicular, Medullary & Anaplastic) | Symptoms, Diagnosis, Staging, Treatment
Thyroid cancer (thyroid carcinoma) is cancer of the thyroid gland, an endocrine gland involved in producing thyroid hormones such as T3 and T4. Thyroid cancer accounts for approximately 1% of all cancers, and several factors increase the risk of thyroid cancer including head and neck radiation therapy, family history, and female biological sex. There are 4 main types of thyroid cancer, including Papillary, Follicular, Medullary & Anaplastic carcinoma, each having different ages of onset, risk factors and signs and symptoms. In this lesson, we discuss the pathophysiology, signs and symptoms, diagnosis, staging and treatment of different types of thyroid cancer.

I have nodules …on thyroid,,left kidney and ovaries. I had breast cancer w/o metasis in 2013 that was successfully treated and eliminated. I had a needle biopsy of the thyroid nodule,,non cancerous and told they weren’t unusual and didn’t turn cancerous. Had cysts on ovaries, one side ruptured about 45 years ago but was not cancerous. Nodules on left side can still cause pains now and then. Also have familial IBS,,gastritis and some diverticulitis. But my oncologist just released me to one year check ups from Feb. 2022. Surely his pre exam labs would have shown cancers anywhere else in the body.?? Oh,,I’m also hypothyroid and take a very low dose of 88 mcg. Daily. However, mthat thyroid seems to cause problems in that my BP can go up and down and has shown a tendency towards hyperthyroid from time to time. No Dr. I have seems concerned nor interested in finding the exact causes of blood pressure numbers going up and down so radically which will cause me prolonged periods of weakness, lack of energy and internal shakes that last for days and months..because..all my ‘numbers’ appear good to them. I always had low blood pressure as a youth and was anemic but never lacked energy nor strength, now when my BP gets into a charted normal area,,they think it’s ok but to me .it’s high. Is there any cause in that mess to make the shakes and weakness to continue and why. They may..mysteriously stop around 6 p.m. every day?? I also have had a recent diagnosis of severe anxiety (from griefs) with possible heart involvement. I am now mid 80’s and when not in the throes of those weak spells,,I have a goodly amount of energy and stamina

Being at age 80 is definitely amazing. I am so sorry to hear what you have gone through these whole years but you are surely a fighter. You surely have great stamina being at the age of 80 and continuously fighting. I admire you alot and i hope you may continue to fight stronger.

@@soulfallenanjali3972 ……. Back in the 1950’s, my brother in jaw was diagnosed with TB. He was sent to a state institution for TB recovery..and recover,he did..but that was a serious serious rampant disorder then too…so they institutionalized many people. He was also a veteran so they would do that extra care for them. You can conquer this…if that’s your physicians diagnosis…but it takes time and as much rest as you can afford to give yourself…plus taking whatever meds they assign you and any vitamins, minerals and supplements and ..special diets, and keep with them. I be,ieve any a regular doctor could tell you what if any special diets and vitamins and minerals and supplements you could also take to keep the rest of your system up. And depression…we who have daily health problems empathize with you….we All have some degree or some times of depression. But as long as your self knows your Are working to conquer it,you sort of .,give yourself permission to believe your health is returning. So kick depression around and out…you master it and work thru it even tho it’s trying to be your master. I believe in one God and I ask that He bless you with healing also..whether it’s by human methods or by Gods own healing power…or Both.

They used to give iodine pills for hypothyroidism but a doctor told me recently that everyone has a good diet now and gets enough iodine. Iodine was added to salt to try and cure the large amounts of hypothyroidism and that is part of the reason most doctors seem to think iodine lack plays no part in today's thyroid problems. I wonder though because a lot of people these days are been shunted into the poor bracket and good food is more expensive. Also people have been told to cut down on salt, so are they getting enough iodine? You can get iodine from fish and seaweed but you don't want a lot of fish because of possible mercury contamination. I'm not a doctor so I cannot really say except try a diet high in iodine. I have been diagnosed with medullary thyroid cancer so have my own problems too but it makes me want to sympathize. Another thing with back and forth swings in energy or mood, could be an unstable control of the thyroid because of pituitary gland problem. That may be helped by getting enough vitamin E. I don't think your problems spring from just the pituitary gland alone. I hope you can get sorted out with your problem.
