  • There was an emotional interchange between our Year 13s outside of the Archway and the remaining student body, who had lined the path and clapped them as they left for the last time as OB's students.

The contrast between the classically European architecture and the Haka is fascinating.

There are wedding hakas performed. They can be VERY emotional and VERY passionate so grab a handkerchief. My favorite wedding haka video, which is also my favorite wedding video period, is one where the groom is white but breaks into haka just as passionately as his Maori bride's family is performing it toward him. Even the bride goes into it at one point, she is SO moved by the ceremony and so moved by the emotion, energy and passion. All I can think is how much it must be a bonding experience for both families (because they're both involved in the video) plus what a sheer cathartic experience, you know? Weddings are already emotional but adding true haka to it just makes it over the top, IMO.

What I love about this is that ALL the boys get into it, not just the Maori ones. The white boys, the Asian boys, the Maori boys....they ALL do it because they are all New Zealanders to a man. Gotta love that.
