Kizer PPY & Update on the Towser K

  • Welp, I started this off by saying I think of this as the lesbian knife because it's name is the PPY...
Before that though, I gave an update on my Towser K trouble. After talking with Kizer's customer service and following some of their instructions, they determined that the knife is faulty. They don't have anymore of the richlite versions available, so I opted to have it replaced with the red micarta variant. It's currently on the way to me. They didn't mention anything about me shipping the faulty one back, so if I don't hear from them after I receive the new one, I'll go back to my original plan and file the lockbar down. If all goes well, I'll have both variants of the Towser K!
Anyway, back to the PPY. It's pretty much an amalgamation of a few different Kizer knives. Like the Begleiter and Domin, it's an Azo design. Azo seems to like proud liners which isn't my preference, but they're not crazy proud.
The handle comfortably fits my hands even though the blade is only 3 1/4", and it easily comes in under that lightweight metric of 1 oz per inch. The micarta also has a nice texture to it like the Rapids, which is different than you'll find on the Begleiter 2 or Grazioso.
    Specs:
3.25" 154CM blade with 2.8 mm stock thickness
    2.85 oz / 81 gram weight
    0.50" handle thickness (Micarta)
    Liner Lock
    Ceramic bearings & detent ball

When they had the ppy on close out on amazon for 22 dollars early Dec last year that was the deal of the year. The ppy is just an all around goo's knife, it ain't anything special but it's just a well done quality pocket knife. At 22 dollars each that was unreal, so good I bought 5 or them. Kept me an extra and gave 4 away for xmax gifts. I'm with you on the deep carry clip thing, I don't like them.. as a girl my pockets aren't usually deep enough to carry a knife in them so I carry inside the waistband and deep carry makes it hard to get it out and when I do have pants with pockets deep enough to carry in the pocket the deep carry clip still makes it hard to get out the pocket. Tight cloths and deep carry clips just don't work well together. I love clips like the stock spyderco spoon clip. So all the china knives with those loop over deep carry clips I have I just throw 3d milled ti clip on them so they aren't deep carry and I have a source that I can get them 4x ti milled clips for 13 bucks.... the Towser K is IMHO the best budget knife that's out there for 80 or less. The geometry of the Towser K is incredible, it's super comfortable in the hand and I love the jimped choke up point (I love 50/50 finger choils and that little jimped section serves as a great choke up spot) the action on them is ridiculous good for 50 bucks that the copper scale version is right now... I don't buy to many china knives and I don't buy any premium china knives but when they hit a home run like they did wjth the towser K I don't mind spending money with them. Even tho their cpm 10v is on the soft side and is a little gummy if they made a towserK in 10v or s90v I would break my rule of not buying premium steel china knives.

It was nicknamed the puppy but PPY seemed more...sellable. On a side note, No PU? yeah yeah, don't quit my day job ;)

Kizer customer service is fantastic. As is civivis, they take very good care of there customers without issue. CRJB is a little tougher to deal with and getting a simple pocket clip replacement is not easy.

That is crazy cool of them! I would definitely file it down now. And if it doesn't work, maybe just swap scales. I wonder if they would spend more on shipping back and forth, or just eating the price of a new knife and shipping it out

Yeah, that seems possible that it'd cost them more in shipping. Especially since it's a "Vanguard" series knife. It's possible that there would be more process for their more expensive designs though.

I have the red Towser and it rocks. I’m sure you will be very happy with it…..and if can fix the blue one you get a double knife, and if not you get extra hardware…..win win 👍

Absolutely. The red Towser K came in, I got it sharpened up and it's quite nice. The scales really make the two feel different, as the micarta is contoured and the richlite is flat.

@@JerryLoffelbein is one more comfortable or ergonomic in hand? Contoured micarta sounds better than flat slabs but I’ve seen some reviews that say the contouring and lock at access relief cut are a bit excessive and less comfortable than one might expect.

Good deal for a nice knife.

Jerry, hate you've had bad luck with kizers. I've bought 6 different vanguard knives over the last year and I can say mine were close to perfect. Don't know?

Luckily those two were the only issues I had with Kizers, they just happened very close to each other which made me worry that a trend might have been starting.
Kizer replaced the Towser K with a micarta variant as the richlite one was out of stock, and I swapped the clip on the PPY with one of the Oknife models and the clips both secure fine now.

I saw a PPY on Amazon for $59, and now I can't find one for sale anywhere.

It looks like Kizer had some aggressive sales leading up to Christmas this year. BladeHQ, Knife Center, Kizer themselves, Mojave Outdoor and even Amazon had a ton of their models marked down. I'd assume they sold through their current inventory. Probably also why they were out of stock on the Richlite variant of the Towser K when I did the warranty rigmarole with them.
They'll probably get their stock back up in a month or two, when they've done their year-end state-side inventory audit. That's my assumption at least.

Would have been much more funny instead of PPY it was YPP. Let that sink in lol

I'd imagine the ladies I was referring to with the pun won't let it "sink in" either 😂

Question: Did Kizer customer service know or get wind of you being a RUclips knife reviewer beforehand? Just wondering if I'd get the same courtesy if I had a problem with a Kizer.

I couldn't imagine so. Regardless, I currently have less than 500 subscribers, so even if they did, I doubt they'd consider me enough of an "influencer" to give me special treatment.

I can speak personally, kizers CS is fantastic as is Civivis. They will go over and beyond to take care of their customers.

Lesbian! 🤣🤣🤣 154cm is a great blade steel. I would rather have that than S30V
