- Innovativ, Magliner, Proaim... These carts are a HUGE investment, but do you really need to spend that much? We built a robust and portable camera cart with stuff you can find at your local hardware store. It's been the best investment in my filmmaking career, and it didn't cost an arm and a leg. If you're handy, please take a look at the video and give it a shot. Send me pictures of your carts!

Nice, when I built mine I thought about using one of those too. I like what y'all did!
I have something similar, but the drum clamp wingnuts is a great idea I hadn't thought of!
It really makes a difference, especially if you have to assemble/disassemble it a lot.
I'm thinking of using gaffers tape for the paint finish. And i like your top shelf better than those I've seen elsewhere.
These are really the diy projects to go for. I'd rather spend thousands of dollars on a nice jib crane
Thank you. Gaffers tape could be a good idea, I hadn’t considered it. Definitely a lot less work than sanding + painting 😆
@@CinePandemia that's what I'm thinking. I like your shelf the best of all I've seen. Going to try it soon
Do you know the diameter / circumference of the scaffolding pipes? I'm wondering if I could fit a c-stand pole inside or a Manfrotto 142B extension.
The pipes would be about as wide as a junior pin outside, but not much wider than a baby pin inside. They definitely cannot fit a c-stand pole in them. I’ve been wanting to modify it as well so I can mount a big monitor plus wireless video antennas, just so I don’t need to haul around an extra c-stand.
Perhaps a mafer clamp with a pin sticking out? I think that would work.
How thick was the maple wood base plate you've used? I think it's not mentioned in the video.
We made two versions but I think I only mentioned one here. 1/4 inch thick with two 1” x 1” support beams underneath, or (the better version) a 1/2 inch slab.
We used two 1/4 inch and sandwiched them together to make a 1/2 inch, cause we had a lot of 1/4 inch maple around.
toolbox liners, even old yoga mats work. i used a yoga mat that kept pissing me off lol
when you hammered the wheels in did you have any problem with the hole breaking or did it work and at worst you just couldn't remove them any longer
No problem at all after hammering them in. The pin would spin inside the tube, but after soldering it in place everything was solid.
Thanks
Where dis u get the wheels
Rock N Roller online store!
you could've made wood cleats instead of clamps! I have a scaffold, I'll be converting it for use at my place to hold my audio and video gear for recording! Thanks for the idea.
Wood cleats could be a good idea for an in-studio solution. The clamps are great for when we have to go over rocks, uneven terrain, a hill, etc… it makes sure the shelf won’t come out of place.
You guys did a great job 👍
Thanks for the share!
Thanks for watching!
I bought my Backstage Junior cart used for $400.
That’s a steal brotha.
Couldn't you just buy a 15$ cart at home depot? Much easier to store and lighter to handle - but still 10 times sturdier than your "cart"?
Let us know how it goes!
@@CinePandemia😂😂
Not to be a prick but I wouldn't put thousands of even hundreds of dollars with of gear on a $15 cart. At least go with a plastic Rubbermaid and tweak it.
