Spekkoek well made brings me back to my youth in the original Pasar Malam in The Hague. Spekkoek has to be really heavy and when properly done has the best taste ever. I have learned a lot about Indonesia and its food from my Indonesian stepfather the famous author Dr. Guus Cleintuar. Slamat makan!
Wow.... first time watching your channel. Definitely you have traveled to many places ... you spoke some of the languages. I am glad you enjoyed some of Indonesian cuisines. 🇲🇨
After Living in South East Asia for tha past 13 years, I have decided to go back to the Netherlands in April 2021. Your videos are a massive help for me to learn how life is in NL right now. It is slowly starting to feel like home again, allthough I am sure I will feel like a tourist in my own country for the first months.
Outstanding food video bro! What a Wonderful way to start my Sunday morning! Great to see Sophie also trying all the food her taste buds are excellent. Thanks again!!
Whiskey(cocktail) sauce is not a joke, its called that way, and good one really contains Whiskey, it's really common in the Netherlands and mostly used to put on a shrimp cocktail.
To be fair that one might be weak, many of the ones you get are bland. I make my own with sherry, mayonaise, lemonjuice, some honey or sugar, spicy paprika powder and ketchup. Turns out a bit runny but packs loads of flavor and great for a salad with tuna.
In the Netherlands they do not wash the eggs, when they come from the chicken, therefore they do NOT need to be kept in the fridge. In North America most eggs are washed and then they MUST be kept in the fridge.
Whiskey sauce DOES contain whiskey! It can differ place to place but it usually contains cream, ketchup, whiskey, lemon and worchestershire sauce and/or tabasco.
If you're still close to Maastricht: 20 minutes from Maastricht is Heerlen. Not as romantic as Maastricht, but theres a very cool building/neighbourhood called the Maankwartier, created by a local artist. Worth a visit for sure. Heerlen is also the street art capital of The Netherlands, theres an app which guides you through all streetart in the city. Heerlen also has a rich history of mine workers and the roman empire. The oldest building of the Netherlands built by the Romans is also in Heerlen, only accesible by visiting the thermenmuseum.
Maastricht is my birth- and hometown and I'm proud of it... There is no place like- and better place to live in The Netherlands than Maastricht! By the way: This has been filmed partly at the "Vrijthof" and a short part has been filmed at the actual market square.
Just followed you cause of your mexico videos, and then i see you where so close to where i live. Maastricht is like 15 miles from my place. Btw keep those mexico videos coming, love Mexico!
Oh man you should try the fusion dishes out of the Indodutch kitchen. We all know spekuk of course, if you're in NL you should try the babi pangang here. They've sort of mixed it up with Cantonese cooking style. It's a national staple dish. Also babi rujak or daging rujak (beef), they've taken the rujak fruit salad idea loosely, and made it into a fruity, sweet and spicy meat stew.
Hey Volpe, i love your videos. I see you walking in city centers a lot wich is great! I know you love to eat fish and seafood. It would be great to see you hunt for oysters. There are spots to do that in Zeeland, Rotterdam and Groningen for example. Sometimes you can go on tour on a boat and catch shrimps! I did that on texel. So, we are going back, back to the beach 😁
I remember as a kid in hoovleet, my parents would buy the satay frozen in a pouch and you would just put it in boiling water for ten minutes it was amazing.
Love your films. Keep them coming, they have really helped through the pandemic. Have you ever tried a Cornish Pasty, they are similar to the Argentinian food you had in this video. Best wishes.
From my experience watching you and Sophie eating foods, I wanna say Carlos, you don't ask your wife if she wanna try, you just give the food to her and say, "Try it baby"😂. You guys have same taste now 👍❤️
The cooked coloured eggs are easter eggs. You'd think we only sell them around easter, but they are being sold the entire year round. This is something that just happened in the last few years and i don't really understand why :D (maybe because its more convenient that way to have a few cooked eggs on the go, i really don't know lol) Also if a Dutch person says they have Whiskey sauce, it's usually Whiskey-cocktail (a standard dutch bbq/table sauce). Goes great with pork and chicken, or traditionally with shrimp and crab...regular fish not so much :p There isnt even whiskey in it, it's based on mayo with cognac and sherry, paprikapowder, ginger, ketchup and cream.
