Funny how you said the stroopwafel would be nice with a cup of coffee or hot chocolate: the smaller ones you can buy in the supermarket we actually sometimes put on top of our cup with hot beverage like a lid, so the stroopwafel gets warm and soft, like when they are baked fresh!

It‘s possible that you had a „Salz Hering“ or „Matjes“ in Germany, which is preserved in salt. The Dutch „Nieuwe hering“ is to my knowledge fish caught at a certain time of the year and has much milder flavor. Try „Rollmops“ on a crunchy roll next time in Germany :)

Cheese shops in Amsterdam have the advantage of so many different cheeses which are hardly sold anywhere else in The Netherlands and you can taste all kinds. Cheese isn’t cheap, but men is it expensive with those tourist prices. Cheese shops are for tourists, cheese stores and cheesemongers are for the Dutch. You distinguish the two by the fact that you can get sliced cheese for sandwiches in cheese stores (that’s what I always buy) and not in touristy cheese shops. And they mostly don’t have lavender cheese or pesto cheese. We do have nettle cheese, cloves cheese and cumin cheese though. Those touristy cheese shops sell whole cheeses, Edammer form, in different sizes. Have fun!

Looks amazing and you’re adjusting amazingly to being a a family of four. Wise choice not driving into the city, my brother went all in on the family trait while driving, let’s just say our family doesn’t have convertibles for a reason. It’s an amazing country, as a child my favorite was the fish and the waterparks along with poffertjes, they’re a little sweeter than I usually like my pancakes but they’re almost waffles so it’s fine. I only ever ate fresh fish, everything else is fishy, we only put lemon, a little sea salt and sage on most fish to not overload the flavor from when I was a child. Our parents were foodies and we grew up with fine taste buds because of it.

ps. My apologies for some of the reactions of my fellow countrymen here acting to be the gatekeepers of all things "Dutch". Any of these people should know if they ever left their homes that poffertjes -- and stroopwafels for that matter -- are sold with all sorts of toppings and flavors. It's so common that you can get these mass produced like that at any Dutch supermarket.

Proper herring is without pickles. That they serve pickles with it in Amsterdam, is most likely to please tourists. Even pickled herring (zure haring) is without pickles.

@@OurStorytoTell He right tho, Amsterdam is what some call Amsterscam.
Its the least dutch city, highest scam prices ever to exist in this nation. housing there 2000-3000 month would cost in the east 500-600 euro.
Its great to enjoy a new place, but lets always note for future NEVER visit what tourist find attactive to go to.
Now you said Amsterdam is bike friendly. Its not. Its the most dangerous and worst experience you can have biking here. Cars are absolutely horrendously punished with ticket prices beyond acceptable. All in name of diversity (aka anything non native) because diversity is about breaking down culture for others to accomodate.
This goes for all countries. Not just NL. but Amsterdam is probably the worst city of all of europe if it comes to how people view it and how it actually is.
I left that province for a reason. Its anti dutch. taken over by tourists and migrants who refuse to learn about the culture or language. The average IQ of Amsterdam citizens is lower than most of the nation. And interesting enough its the most diverse city too. When you add tourism to a country its fine, as long as they spread. but tourists do not do that. they all flock to same places. which then in turn notice. and scam the natives with rising prices beyond acceptable.
And dont begin about how about Rotterdam or such popular cities. They are in some ways worse, equal or tiny bit less worse. Regardless absolute the worst to go to is the west of the nation. if you want your pockets empties for 200-400% prices then amsterdam makes sense.
Video was fun tho, but I feel the need to tackle this false advertising all tourists do. Amsterdam houses probably the worst people of our country too. I wouldnt be able to let my wife go off the main city in some neighborhoods with turks, marrocan or blacks. they assault, steal, rape and stab people there. even at daytime they gang up and cause troubles. this never been part of dutch culture. migrants brought in that violence and stabbing. so Amsterdam is most comparable to UK. except this would be on european continent and UK isnt. But its basically same crime infested city.
You could have a pleasant experience. just like they say in florida you could. but florida man/woman is a common occurance in news there. Well here its police shows showing the touristic cities with... blacks stealing stuff from people. If they white they say it explicitely. but if they dark you hear them say maybe the color 1x. while over 97% of their total content is blacks and other migrants. Migrants are the criminals who steal from you here. Amsterdam is the city that does it for you. being far from that means a more enjoyable experience. and no scam prices.

All you need is hot dog buns, Frikandellen Sausages (!!!) which are unique and sooo delicious, Gewürzketchup instead of tomato ketchup, translucent onions and mustard and mayo. You can usually get the Frikandellen in the freezer everywhere in Germany. I really recommend you to try it out. What on earth are Aebelskivers???? Poffertjes are 100% Dutch and are only known by that name. And the sign at the shop in Germany literally spelled "Dutch Poffertjes" translated :) Also the only reason 'American pancakes' even exist in the USA is because of the HUGE Dutch influence of Dutch culture on American culture. It was the Dutch that brought their pannekoeken recipes to the USA and then it became 'Pancakes'(translated from Dutch into English literally) :) The Dutch as coffee drinkers are also the reason the USA is a coffee drinking nation and not a tea dringking nation :)

Netherlands, literally the Low Country. Gained independence from Spain in the 1500s. Linguistically, Dutch stands between German and English and has similarities with both. Africans is considered a descendant of Dutch.
The Dutch became rich through maritime trade and they are still regarded as experts in this field. In addition, the Netherlands is also characterized by agriculture.
A Dutch prince even ascended the English and Scottish thrones, but had no descendants. In addition to French, Dutch also shaped the English language and spelling.

She's also of an age, where her features, are distinct enough, that she's recognisable on her own, and I feel it's not the safest option to put her out there on the internet, occupied by well meaning strangers and predators alike. Kinda creepy, really, thinking of it.

Tzeesus... Americans always try to customize everything... Think they can make better ingredients decisions then EVERYONE in the last 3-4 centuries... Yesss let's take lemon with poffertjes and nutella between STROOPwafels.. STROOP - Dutch for sugar melasse. Otherways it should be named Nutellawafels. In Amsterdam this is on sales just because of the tourists asking for odd combinations... Like in Brussels you can top Belgian waffles with the most crazy toppings ... YUCK ! In my humble opinion not all traditional foods should be Starbucked (50 customizations of coffee ??) Sorry for my aggressive reaction but this behaviour make my skin itch ..

You never walked into an Albert Heijn in the last 5 years or so have you? 🤣
Seriously. At least it's "good" to see you realize that you are taking it too far.

Sure, you can probably blame some of the customization on Americans, but let’s be honest… we are not the only visitors/tourists/travelers in the world who they are catering to with the flavors. Either way, it’s different and maybe for you hard to see the non traditional options of food today.

Life would be boring if we always did what others tell us. Let 'em eat poffertjes with tomato ketchup if they want!

@@OurStorytoTell : I travelled 45 countries of the world and the USA is definately the star of customizations. And crazy combinations. That's not to blame but a sheer observation. And I confess: American Icecream is pretty awesome. But some dishes are also awesome just the traditional way.. imho.
