Heh, it's weird seeing a typical spanish street food, leche frita (fried milk) in Taiwan.
I don't think i've ever seen even one video where people eating in Taiwan don't go bananas about the food. Definitely one place to visit some day.
Had no idea it's Spanish?! Us Chinese have been eating it for a while. That's so cool. So is the Spanish version sweet too?! =)

Oh yeah, sweet it is XD Around here the filling it's just milk, sugar and cornflour, with cinnamon and lemon peel for flavoring.
Still, i wouldn't have expected something that's mostly milk to be eaten by chinese people :)
if it's super sweet and has lots of milk then it's probably western or western inspired food. Like the Filipino Halo2
Weird I never have seen fried milk in Taiwan every year I go back, but it sounds yummy
just speculating but Taiwan had Dutch/Spanish colonies all the way back in the 1600s, that is why you might see some Spanish influences or dishes in Taiwan

Great video! Yeah, stinky tofu is everywhere in Taipei, even in the subway underground passages. Shilin Market is impressive, huge. We were also fascinated by the snake restaurants - nobody sitting outside, only the snakes in their cages. Then we felt sorry for the animals, so we went for fish...

7:50 That's an atemoya, a hybrid of the sweetsop and the cherimoya, both of which originate in South America. The atemoya is really popular in Taiwan. But you really jumped into the deep end with the stewed stinky tofu! You should have tried the deep fried stuff first!

You confirmed my notion about stinky doufu. When I was a student in Taiwan, my teachers all loved stinky doufu, but I could never get past the smell. I would like to return to Shilin just to check out the market. I lived in the Shilin district in the late 70's. There's definitely been some changes.

The atmosphere of the night shop looks a lot like Japan. The food that is out is a little American-sized feeling. I felt familiar because Taiwanese guests are very amateur and pleasant people. I want to eat sausages. Thank you very much.

for the fruits you eat, the white one is called custard apple, soursop or like the woman said, sugar apple. And the eggy one is called lucuma. Both are tropical fruits so I guess that was your 1st time eating them?

we call it sugar apple in Saint Kitts (Caribbean)
I think the one in Taiwan is a cross between custard apple and cherimoya.
Awesome channel, keep up the good work, I grew up outside of Philly PA which is a great food town, eating well is its own reward and food doesn't have to have a fancy restaurant swaddled around it to taste great...
Atta boy. I was wondering how you could go there and not try the stinky tofu. Fresh, hot stinky tofu is great, imo. I found some in Toronto and ate it there, steaming, with my 4 year old son. We enjoyed it. But then we decided to bring it home to Daddy. That smell escalates REALLY fast as it goes from hot to room temperature and sits in a car a while. Yep. Stinky tofu is not great as a take-away.
