When he would be awesome would be if the toughness buff applied to the entire unit he was with. So the 5 that went in the sagitaur also got the buff while the 5 he was physically with defended the home objective. Or if he could send one of the CORVs with the sagitaur and use it for line of sight to targets otherwise not targetable
Instead of leading Hearhguards I'd rather they released a new unit for him to lead. I could see him leading a cloud of AI controlled drones, that'd be pretty badass.
I think he should be able to attach to any unit (or at least Hearthguard), and his drones should not take up transport space. That would be the best case scenario. I also love the idea of giving him some sort of force multiplier buff. Very cool model that I wish was more useful in game.
For me the grimnyr has actually been really good, With the ignore cover of the hearthkyn squad, it was one of my most reliable damage on elite infantry like terminators or crisis suits. Allowed me to punch up with a squad of heathkyns
He should be attachable to every infantry we have and given an ability to roll 1 d6 for during his command for each dead ecog, on a 4+ it revives. This would give him more of a support role(+1 tough and 2 4+ invulns), a little more dice rolling and maybe even justify seeing the table again
I would love to see a votann model be release similar to necrons pyramid of doom. And have grymneer interact in someway with it maybe for an army wide buff or to call in fresh units. I dunno just seems fun.
For one, I think we will see more kinds of Grimnyr in the future, in the same way librarians take lots of different forms. A Grimnyr in Bastium armor, a Grimnyr in a miniature fane/tech throne, just more thematic stuff. For two, so many armies are lacking the combo power that others have. Why does nothing in Votann interact with the tokens? Plenty of Eldar characters mess with fate dice. Plenty of sisters change up their miracle dice. So Votann should interact more with their tokens in unique ways. And if anyone is gonna do this, it should be Grimnyrs, the dudes literally vat-born to interpret the will of the Votann (that is somewhat represented through the tokens). At its simplest, a Grimnyr’s unit could be considered 1 toughness higher when it’s attacked by a tokened enemy, stacking with the plus one he innately has. T7 Hearthkyn is insane, even if the armour save starts letting them down. Or maybe this affect is instead an increase to armour saves? A FNP like you suggest? Either way, I think it should stay as something defensive as that’s the aim of a grimnyr’s wisdom; to keep their kin alive. There are other things we could do, such as giving the CORVs a purpose again, like if the CORVs shot in a turn, you can pick one thing they shot and it temporarily counts as plus one token. Or you can give his psychic gun some sort of interaction with tokens like they had in 9th. Honestly my main gripe with Votann is that we went from a book in 9th that had so many fun combo pieces (ignoring the balance for a moment) to in many steps having no interlocking pieces whatsoever.
You can't even put him and the full 10 hearthkyn in the land fortress because he refuses to let you stuff the corvs into the overhead luggage! Honestly the inability of the army to fit half the characters and their squads in vehicles is incredibly bizarre and more than a little annoying. Those sorts of baked in nonbos I've just kind of learned to live with but they shouldn't be in the army. I really wish the 9th rules where you could take failed psychic tests (or in this case a failed hazardous check) on the corvs was still there. That was a neat, flavorful thing about the unit but didn't just let you completely ignore the rule as you could only do it twice. Not to mention having a psyker had a lot more gameplay and scoring utility in 9th. The conversion to a 10th ed psyker really just flattened the Grimnyr and it's a huge bummer. All that said I agree with the take that you'll see them more often in Pariah Nexus. As you mentioned action monkeys are gonna be at a premium and they're cheap enough to not get the feel bads if you have to send them to the corner of the table and they get blown up randomly on turn 3. Seems a little insulting to the highly revered elders of the kin, but I guess everyone's gotta pull their weight in the Leagues.
Yup my thoughts exactly. I’m happy he will potentially see more play, but it feels a little dirty that he will simply be used as the most economical action piece rather than utility

Wicked idea! Attaching each drone independently to other units to apply buffs would be really cool

That would be cool too, more options are always welcome!
Oh wow the Grimnyr they’re great
Your favorite unit eh ;)
Would be cool if he could ride with warriors, having the 2 drones following the sagitaur and able to shoot
They absolutely gotta let drones not count towards transport capacity

Same here! Would love to field him but he just doesn’t fit in any archetype I enjoy

Teleport could be cool!
Damn. 40k is so freaking cool. If only the company that made it weren't evil money sucker demons
Have him attach to beserks, i think it would do a funny combo and beserks need a leader
Berserk’s could be cool too running around at T6!

Yeah it really sucks that it's such a lackluster unit because it's objectively the coolest looking one in our whole lineup
